Filmora Told YouTube To Remove My Video. 

I use Blender as my video editing software, it is much more low level and I prefer that.

@TechCowboy For me it was the silent revocation of the lifetime license. Lifetime has a special legal meaning. They knew what they were doing and that how they were doing it looks sketchy and underhanded. I'd you need the recurring revenue sit down with your user base and be upfront about it. Compensate them in some way for ending "lifetime" upgrades. Reach an agreement with most of your users. There are about 1000 better ways to do this. The real cherry on the poop sundae was the copyright strike they issued to threaten his channel. That's not sketchy. IMHO that's straight up dirty. I'm feeling like I dodged a bullet because I had been hearing good things about them.

You know if you would have paid it would have nullified your lifetime and their lawyer probably told them people are dumb they dont read and when they do it they can eliminate those licenses I say let them go bankrupt they showed they have no love but for money and loyalty means nothing they literally tried to buy your silence what else they willing to do>???

RU-vid gave company power to claim/takedown video , at the same time youtube will refuse to be mediator between these two. When that happen, you are facing the entity who f*ck you up with their all mighty power youtube gave them.

Unfortunately, RU-vid lets the person making the strike handle the appeal and decide whether it's really a strike or not. RU-vid does not handle appeals themselves. Unless they get embarrassed enough.

I agree, the deck is stacked in favor of the companies who ask to have the content removed and it's not worth fighting that. Better to just call them out publicly and shame them for what they are doing.

Wondershare does seem to be heading into a Streisand effect (or something like it) very quickly. They could have easily done nothing and this would probably blow over after awhile. But now they're not only ticking off long time users, but they are showing bad faith and will lose sales to new users as they may find this video.

Smells of "New boss has taken over and CLEARLY knows better than previous ones" and is making sweeping changes. Which in turn usually smells of things going badly behind the scenes.

It's a combination of hubris and stupidity. The world is full of supposedly smart people who can't perform the basic of critical thought in order to understand what the 2nd, 3rd and successive order consequences of their actions. Consequently, they will be shocked when their business begins to tank.

@@demicus I disagree, I think this was the goal all along. This license agreement never felt right with the amount of pushing of subscription payments they were doing for special effects and fonts an other glitz. Every time I pushed the update button, I crossed my fingers and hoped this wouldn't be the time they demanded payment. Glad I saw these videos first.

Ay... This is not the conduct of a reliable company to trust with your business. I got to think they're pretty desperate for more sales at this point and possibly doomed to fail. Why else paint themselves as a company who's risky to do business with - shady in one way than probably shady in other ways. The "Lifetime licenses" sold so many years ago can't possibly be a significant percentage of the addressable market for their product; this decision which cannabilizes their entire user community who would otherwise be evangelizing their product clearly a costly move, And I'd suspect hardly any of those people will be happily springing for that Version 12... Why pay extra for the Lifetime if you were willing to buy a subscription? I imagine the Terms being a huge factor in those users' purchasing decision.

Sounds like it's time to lawyer up, they're going after Daniel personally - despite Filmora's own wrong doing and manipulative and predatory business practices. I think it's time for them to be served a class action lawsuit, at the very least to protect yourself and others legally from their own ill designs.

@@futuza Well I would suggest people start by filing complaint forms with the FTC if they dishonored your Lifetime license purchase. Class action would fail if some of the terms in the EULA were upheld, But the FTC is not beholden to the EULA and can pursue penalties under Unfair business practice statutes which the FTC can enforce.

It reads like they've hired lawyers, but what they should hire is a better PR team.

What they need to hire is a leader committed to living up to their promises. I was a short time user. Bought 11 about 4 days before the 90 day window. I understood what I was purchasing and for me, I have to pay if I want to upgrade. For prior users, the company needs to live by their word. Since they won’t, I’ve moved on to Davinci Resolve and will not be upgrading.

Ohhh boy, so someone at filmora thought "Hey he's criticizing us, go and post a DMCA claim on one of his videos sponsored by us to scare him and put him in line." Right now, if the filmora guys are reading these comments, and one of them, who is not a complete imbecile, decides to ask a lawyer "Hey lawyer, are we in trouble?" The lawyer, if he is being gentle, will just tear them a new one and tell them to retract the DMCA claim and publicly apologize.😹 Any lawyer seeing this will have a field day with filmora.

Their current sponsorships are really horrible. I had an actual deal with them but now they just reach out to anyone, regardless of niche and offer them horribly low amounts of money to make Filmora videos.

The only contact I had with any wondershare product was through the occasional "Dr. Fone" "ad" that would pop up occasionally when searching for a specific fix for a phone. It was clear to me that their promises were over the top and they couldn't hold them, e.g. "recover any data from any phone" or something like that. The weird wording of the article would almost certainly make sure it is just in place to lure people into buying their useless software suite. I found a working solution with other software nearly every time, and after seeing this shitshow there is no way I would buy ANY software made by their, now clearly deep down shady, company

It really is amazing how many companies don’t seem to grasp how the Streisand Effect works. They may well end up sinking the brand (and at this point m I’d say that is totally fair.). What’s sad is, I’m sure they still believe they are in the right. Now, legally speaking, they probably would win, just due to the state of consumer right’s law in the US. But from the “doing the right thing,” angle they really went full evil corporation. As a software developer I honestly understand the pain of having existing “lifetime licenses” on your books. I commented to the original video noting that it’s like a debt you can never pay down. However, that’s not any of the license holders fault. Issuing these kinds of licenses early on in a product’s life is incredibly common, well it used to be at least. It’s a calculated risk, taking every step possible to increase their market share in the space. Most companies tend to think, having too many lifetime users is a luxury problem. So they make an offer few could refuse, if they have the means to make the purchase. Virtually every company that does this knows that, apart from add ons, that’s then end of that revenue stream from that user. But when you’re just trying to get your foot in the door, it’s usually gamble worth taking. Then you have companies like the creators of Filmora. At some point someone high up the chain of command likely decided they needed to “fix” this “problem.” So they execute a plan, that at least legally speaking, would probably stand up in court. Of course having a legal right, and how enforcing it will be received are two different animals. Honestly, I wouldn’t give them a second chance. The main reason is this wasn’t some executive making a rash decision in the heat of the moment. They executed a plan over a number of years to create the legal groundwork to take this final step. It speaks volumes about how they see their user base. Some may try to say, “it’s just business.” But businesses are run by people and their actions reflect the views and beliefs of those people. There is a phrase that’s currently in vogue, that I think applies here. When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

Yeah. They cannot give a clear definition of what the license purchase entails and then change it on the fly later. it is a legally binding agreement and under terms like these, no contract or agreement would have any meaning.

But they didn't nullify the contract? They just laid out a different set of schemes so that they release essentially a different product "upgrades" which is not under that contract. Like they added a new thing that isn't covered uner a stupid word technicality. They didn't alter the lifetime license right?

Yeah that's the real shame in all this, isn't it? A bunch of users screwed over, a youtube content creator screwed over, and a bunch of employees that had no say in an incredibly poor decision who are now associated with a company that is dragging its own reputation through the gutter... and all for a quick money grab that all but ensures that their brand becomes radioactive. What makes it even worse is that the software is actually good, the people who worked on it should be proud of what they accomplished and instead they're gonna be ashamed of being associated with these actions that were likely directed by a few shortsighted execs.

Same here. I don't care about video editing at all, but I love legal "mumbo jumbo". I love it when a person is right, and feels he is right, and can properly explain why he is right, but is at the same time being wronged, and looking forward to the aftermath. RU-vid knew my taste well when they suggested the first video a couple of days ago. I hopz to see this conclude further without the need to subscribe to Daniel. Daniel deserves all support, but me as a subscriber is meaningless to his channel if I don't share the same interests.

Same here. I know nothing about these programs (Mostly a Linux user), but in the near future when I need to edit video in Windows (Upcoming work project), I will absolutely disregard anything with made by or associated with, Filmora. I don't pay money to companies with that kind of attitude.

Such naivety. Lawyers aren't stupid. It's not "knowingly false" if they "believe" what they are doing is legal (that would be unknowingly false). What are you going to sue them for? Lost revenue on a video? That will be a LOT less than the cost of going to court, and they know it. They *always* win.

That constitutes a clear "knowingly false" claim. In addition, it doesn't matter what they (or you for that matter) THINK is legal. Making a false DMCA claim is perjury, and large companies have lost suits from youtubers over FAR less cut and dry situations than this one.

Also precedent for this in regards to RU-vid.

@@dmhendricks It was a sponsored video. They have a contract instructing him to use the asset they now claim was copyright infringement. There is no way they can argue that was in good faith. And yes, suing them is a pointless endeavour. Even if you are basically guaranteed a win, the damage is negligible, so there is no point. If they remove the strike, that is. You can still sue them for injunctive relief if they don't.

Unfortunately they are hiding behind the "they can revolk at anytime".

It seems like it would be pretty easy for him to prove that this video was part of his negotiated brand ambassador deal, which would prove that the claim is false, and given the timing of the strike it would be apparent it was also in bad faith.

I learnt my lesson back in Adobe CS5. Adobe removed a great feature called self-made sliders. Despite huge backlash. Then they went very cloudy. To hell with Adobe, Filmora or any of them. Now I use Linux and FOSS.

It never goes well IN THOSE SITUATIONS YOU'VE HEARD ABOUT. Think about the millions of times this happens silently in the night, and then it does go 'well' for the company involved. In the cases you've heard about, there's a victim above a certain threshold of online reach.

When narcissists run a company this is what happens. They never learn because they can´t see anything wrong with it.

It happens because these companies are run by sociopaths. Those are the sort of people that always float to the top. It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Try Da Vinci Resolve instead! 🤩

X2 on Da Vinci Resolve which is FREE. Get your money back (& quote this BS they are pulling as to why while your at it). Da Vinci Resolve has a bigger learning curve but is a far more powerful editor & now Danial Batal and I'm sure others will be making some great how to videos to learn Da Vinci Resolve. Filmora can't be trusted anymore not to pull a fast one on you one of these days. For all you know they may lock you out of some features with an update one of these days.

In addition to Resolve, I would also recommend people take a look at KdenLive. Unlike Resolve, KdenLive is open source with a GPL 3 license. With a proprietary license, the free version of Resolve can always be retracted, with GPL, KdenLive will always be free in more ways than one.

there are several apps people i know use for editing and tell people to go for over this, more so since this behavior started but before that due to some support issues they had that took a long time to fix, including activation issues with lifetime licences before this change... just a pita... hell... one gal i know went back to using vegas, Pinnicle, Avid, corel, power director, and other well known apps, including lightworks, the number of people i know using vegas has grown alot in the last couple years...

I need the head of power in that company to step down and apologize and never be in power again. Or they should burn to the ground and I feel no sympathy for every bit of money they have to spend as they crumble under lawsuits and public disapproval

I had never heard of Daniel until a few minutes ago when I saw his first video about this. I’d never heard of Filmora, either, but I do create and edit videos and have been looking for a new software to use. I can definitely say that I will never buy anything from this company under any circumstance, because they’ve proven their word means absolutely nothing, and they will just twist their TOC to suit their purposes no matter what they say.

@@MidlifeRenaissanceMan Agreed. Open source is the way to go whenever possible. My biggest issue with most open source software is a lack of UX/UI and since I’m a UX/UI designer myself, I may contact some developers and work to improve them because more people need to use open source.
