I had to beat this guy at least 10 times, because it would always freeze on the cut scene where Yuna is about to get married. I tried cleaning the disc, using tooth paste trick, and all kinds of stuff. Finally I just took it to this movie rental store and they resurfaced it and I finally got passed it.
It's a weird/interesting story for me: but he was my first wall as well. He was such a wall that I tried and tried and tried, probably fought him 200 times on my first playthrough. I even ran around inside the airship fighting monsters trying to get stronger after realizing I couldn't beat him... to no avail. It literally led me to stop playing Final Fantasy X. But guess what? It was almost like destiny... because I didn't play FFX again until many, many years later. About 2 years ago, in fact, when I played the HD Remaster for PC. You see, I had been in a gaming "lull" for quite sometime, where no games were enjoyable to me anymore and simply couldn't scratch my itch. Then I searched to see if FFX was available on PC, and lo, it was there. And so, 2 years ago, after no longer being able to enjoy games enough to even call myself a gamer -- I picked up FFX, skeptical that I would even enjoy myself... but oh man, I loved it so, so fucking much. Then I got to this fight: and let me tell you, I was nervous. But guess what? I fucking EVISCERATED him. I have no idea how -- but I'm pretty sure I killed him in about 6 hits. I guess I wanted to be prepared for him, so I spent a TON of time leveling and getting strong gear leading into it. And so, the ever so scary Evrae - the boss that prevented me from beating FFX for like 15 was reduced to nothing but a chump. And what's more... I actually enjoyed FFX (which to this day was my last full playthrough of a game) so much that I got 100% completion. Beat Penance and everything (used Yojimbo to beat Penance tho). Did the Onion Knight challenge, the Chocobo Races, all of it.
He was such a wall to me that I eventually picked Rikku and did her Ult to throw money per point of damage... and threw all my money at it killing it. Granted I was like 11.
Same in fact I got the remastered version for Xmas two years ago and he still give me trouble. But I haven't picked up the game in a while so who knows when I finally do I might finally beat him.
He was such a big wall for me that I legit had to start the game all over because I was a kid who had no idea how the Sphere Grid worked, not to mention me not understanding English at the time. First wall was Seymour, and Evrae not long after. How I even got to that point in the game is nothing short of a miracle if you ask me. Got the remaster a few days ago, just beat him a few minutes ago as of this comment. He keeled over with almost shocking ease because he can be delayed, slowed AND blinded. Barely touched my party, and Tidus with Haste also trivializes him. Add several turns of Cheer and his claws might as well break upon Auron's badassery.
This boss is a real wake up call, I played this game years ago when it first came out, when I reached this point I only ever used Yuna and her Aeon's in battle, so easy to say I got one shot every time. unfortunately on ye old ps2 version there were no cheats, so all you could do was wander around the airship and grind those characters up to a plausible level where they could take a few hits and then really on Rikku's mix ability's to create a elixir that lets one of your character's do 9999 damage with every hit (preferably being Wakka, who will then use his attack reels overdrive)
damn, dude. i have no idea how you got that far on aeons alone but talk about unfortunate timing. you remind me of my buddy when he ultra leveled up aerith early on in final fantasy vii and set her up as his main healer.
I remember fighting him on the PS2 version...WITHOUT a memory card. I got here at this "wall" and had to replay the ENTIRE game up to this point SO MANY DAMN TIMES to literally get here and die Lol
Finally beat this boss battle after losing to it about 5 times only to die after the boss battle while on the steps of Seymour and Yuna's wedding. Now I have to do this whole boss battle *AGAIN*
Mitsuru Kirijo Oh yeah. I grinded on the ship before this battle and was more tactical so everything worked out. Right now I'm at the Calm Lands grinding so I get enough money to buy Yojimbo for whatever is coming next.
***** Choose with Yojimbo the third option.1st offer 125001 gill 2nd offer 150002 gill 3rd offer 175003 gill. After that he'll off you 203000 gill to pay.Always offer him when you summon him 1001 gil it'll build friendship with him and he'll use zanmato and wakizashi more often.
VajmuasVids once you defeat Evrae you can heal your characters in items section at main menu(from where you go to sphere grid). This can save you trouble
when i was 10, i played this game without using the sphere grid (because I didn't understand how it worked) and evrae is what made me realize... you can't do that
I often wonder why Bevelle doesn't get destroyed by Sin. It's larger than other Spira towns and has some machina. I guess Evrae might be there to chase Sin away or be a decoy who can outrun it.
Bevelle houses Vegnagun, and has Evrae to guard it. Yu Yevon knows the threat of going up against that. If Sin is defeated by anything other than an Aeon, Sin is no more.
Yes but it means he will just cast haste to counter it. However, if you can slow him and get reflect on him, he hastes someone in your party instead. I'm pretty sure slow ignores reflect, but I'm not sure.
I always made sure i had tidus or rikku on deck to help move the ship and wakka and lulu to do long range attacks plus lulu's drain kept her at top health while weakening this guy
I had Hastega at this point in the game, and that really helped make this fight a breeze. Also, using non-elemental weapons. Combine Hastega with Slow, and you get like 3 actions per character before Evrae reacts with haste, but that isn’t a guarantee - it using Haste on itself.
This boss fight sucks so much fucking ass...As soon as I move the airship away, he comes right back over, which makes the movement of the ship a giant fucking waste of time.
Lulu deadass dodged him THREE-FOUR TIMES in a row with her long dress. how she didn't fall off the ship too is beyond me.. tidus and rikku dying 5x over can't relate unfortunately
I was fucking 10 yrs old at the time and I still consider that as child abuse. I raged so much after losing so many times that I started level up on the Fahrenheit for like 10 hours to rekt him (I made sure he suffered)
Remember finding this so hard because I messed around on the sphere grid teaching tidus fire spells etc also whenever i did beat it the section after with the gaurds always finished me
Rikku overdrive combine two musk for 5x Cheer and 5x Focus on the whole party then use smoke bombs, and al bhed potions once I did that his poison was barely hurting my characters
Recently doing a NSG run, I find Evrae pretty easy but tedious because of the preparations and the cheap damage most of the time, and you have to be careful to mark the moment when he gets Haste
This boss is a pain in the ass. But if you grind out some levels you can kick this bosses ass. Just make sure that it doesn't keep hasteaga on itself for too long or you're going to some some problems.
Crazy I had all the "ga" version of every attack and the rest of my characters were inflicting so much more damage than yours. You must have rushed but I did need to retry this part 2x
I used a infinite master spere cheat when I played the Int. ver on PS2.Now I am playing it all over legit on PS3 it's going fine so far except for the unforgiving grid(at Macalania atm)...when I get to this boss it will be like divine punishment for letting thing get outta hand...serves me right for relying on Al Bhed cheat codes.
Lol I just farmed exp to get waka to hit around 2500 damage and taught lulu the gap spells and casted hastega and it took like 5 mins he didn't even do his breath attacks
This is why I grind so much...for example, the sin scales on the way to Kilika - fight them over and over and you can grind so many spheres and ap. The desert and thunderplains were great for grinding too. I didn't have a problem with this boss - I had a problem with getting everyone to hit it once so they all got AP at the end :D
So many people complain about this boss, i lost to him once and decided to bribe him. So I threw 200k+ at him with rikku's spare change ability. Money solves everything friends xD
First time I played this I was way overpowered for this boss battle and beat him way too easily I had level 3 magic for Lulu and my HP was in the 3 to 5k range
It is irrational how mad I get at seeing someone play this stupid and yet still win the battle. If you insist on fighting melee range, you may as well bench Lulu, cause she doesn't even come close to doing the damage the melee fighters can (in this fight). While on the topic of melee range, not pulling back until Evrae hastes itself means you don't get the advantage of the 3 missile barrages of the ship, which not only do damage, but look cool. Wakka is a champ in this fight, I don't get why you don't keep him on the frontlines constantly to spam status conditions (ow right, yea, you insist on fighting melee range). Riki is also a champ in this fight with her potions, it curse poison AND petrification AND heals, basically completely nullifying anything Evrae does, why would you use antitodes or softs? I know that my being angry doesn't make any sense, and that OP played well enough to beat the boss (although if it weren't for a lucky RNG miss, probably would not have), but I just grrrrrrrrrr, why!?
Ok when I first fought this boss he was a pain in the ass i kept dying lucky I made a mistake in and deleted my saved game and replayed till I got to this part again and I destroyed this annoying monster this time when I played this game I leveled up a lot so made sure I was not losing tidus is 2120 hp auron 3630 hp rikku 2160 lol my rikku had more hp then tidus and she just joined the team not that long ago lol wakka 2018 hp lulu 1780 hp and kimarhri 2160 hp I made a lot of customization to my weapons also this boss couldn't hit me once,if u can get counter and evasion on your weapon u should use that it's soooo helpful, the morale of this story is DONT SLACK OFF keep fighting so your characters get stronger or you will regret it
You must calculate VERY well the times so that you can ask Cid to move back the ship before the dragon uses its breath. If you see that you're not able to avoid it, be sure to have Khimari, Wakka and Auron in good health, since they're usually the party members with more HP and so they have more chances to endure the attack. In general y suggest you to use Auron to attack when the dragon it's close and Rikku as the healer of the group. Finally when you're far use Lulu and Wakka since they're the only ones able to attack the dragon from the distance. Good luck pal.
Eli Freakazoid Another strategy is to stay far away the complete battle since he uses haste. You can still attack, but only with Wakka, Lulu and Kimahris Lancet. Its a pathetic strategy but it works :D
+STECKEDDECK I'm sad to say this, but every boss (expect for the superbosses) can be beaten with a load of grinding (not that it's necessary) and absolutely no strategy.
Been there, the fight is easy if you grind in the right spots, like when you get shiva I farmed the guado till I had 10 level with everyone, also you need hastga for this fight, and you will have an amazing time.
Let me guess your friends over relied on aeons so the moment there was a remotely strong boss that they weren’t able to use yuna in they struggled badly.
dayum. i now feel overpowered....everytime i get to this point Aurom deals at least 4000-5000 dmg and Lulu has the Ga spells haha :D was never a problem
Why use move out then move in thats not quick battle if move out the boss use a more damage attack but if move in u can deal more damage thats not how its play lol
Let Lulu cast Fira instead, deals more damage to Evrae than Thundara, cast also Shell and Protect also to reduce damage taken from its Poison Breath, use Reflex if any of your party has that ability to increase evasiveness. Have Wakka or Auron use Dark Attack to cast darkness debuff to Evrae. Use Cheer ability to increase physical attacks. Keep switching to Rikku when taken a lot of damage and have her us Al Bhed Potion to heal your party. Goodluck!
