Hi! I'm Maddie - a first-year kindergarten teacher. This is my final classroom set-up video! I can’t believe it!!
Thank you all for being so patient and understanding when I went silent after the last video. As I mentioned at the beginning of this vlog, I got really sick after filming video #3, and then the beginning of the school year was a lot harder & more exhausting than I expected. This is nearly the “finished product” of my classroom. :) It’s so nice to see it all come together! Thanks so much for sticking around to watch me set up the classroom of my dreams. It means a lot to me!
Now that I’m done setting up my classroom, what kinds of videos would you like to see from me? I am planning to film “weekly” (I use this term loosely, haha!) videos to let you know what I’m up to with my kids. Please let me know what other topics you are interested in so that I can work to create exciting and meaningful content.

Thanks so much, Lesley! That is really encouraging to me. I miss being in my bachelor's program/cohort with all of my other teacher friends... I spent a long time wishing it away so that I could have my own classroom already, and now I would give anything to see those friends every day! :) Enjoy it while you can. So exciting to see your classroom complete and organized... i would suggest taking curtain off emergency door. Curtain makes it confusing for kids to know how escape room during an emergency. Looking forward to watching next video. 😁

You can save your PowerPoint as images. This creates a folder that has each slide as a photo. [File>export>change file type from here select the image setting and hit save as. Select where you want to save it. Then select all slides.] Hope that helps. Such a cute room btw. I have so much respect for what you guys do, ec-2 teachers :)

Love!! Everything came together so well! For the PowerPoint font issue, if you select “embed fonts” when you save it, they will transfer if you send the file to a computer that doesn’t have the font installed. Also, if your clips don’t hold the cardstock, try putting sticky notes on the back to thicken them up. (:

In the gray drawers? The top 2 drawers have their writing & reading folders. The 3rd drawer has their math workbooks, and the bottom drawer has the reading station materials for that table :)

Thanks! I wish I could, but it has to be exactly the way it is due to the cord setup. I literally never sit at my desk during the school day though! I am always either on the rug teaching with the kids or circulating around the room when they are working :)

When did you start to collect all of these materials for your classroom? I’m student teaching now and I’m worried about having all the things I need when I have my own classroom (and knowing what I’d need).

The first thing I started collecting were books. I probably started that my first or second year of undergrad. I started buying things from the Target Dollar Spot the summer after my junior year of college. I didn't have room to store a ton of it, so I saved up money and made lists of the things I wanted to buy the summer before I started my first year! :)

Use Canva.com to make your slides and then download them in whatever format you need them. They have awesome fonts!

I agree! I wanted enough things that the room was inviting, but not so much that they were overly stimulated. I also wanted us to create some of our decor together so that kids have more ownership over the space :)

Yeah! As part of the second year at uni we have to teach at a school for 3 weeks, then again in the third year but longer and again in the last but again longer :)

I would like to see your planning. How is the organization in relation to the letters, the way of teaching? I don't know what you call it, maybe it's a resume. How old is your kindergarten class? Yes! I've actually put them in the space above my mailboxes since I last filmed a video. I printed our 4 co-created class promises, and had each of the kids "sign" our promise by writing their name on a heart and decorate it. It turned out really cute, but more than that - it's meaningful!

Yep, I am currently filming everything on my iPhone and editing in iMovie. The microphone on the iPhone isn't awesome (on mine at least), so I make any clips where I'm talking at 400% volume, and music around 20% and that seems to be a good balance :)

@@cheyenneiozzio4641 I got my tripod on Amazon Prime Day for about $30, but even regularly it sells for about $42. And it came with a wireless bluetooth remote! And I would say to start out, an iPhone works perfectly fine :) I was nervous too - just go for it!! It will be so worth it :)
