As a CPS hotline worker for one of the poorest US states, I can tell you that YES we can place kids in safe homes every day, every hour, even Christmas. It's a 24/7 deal. I work overnights and have coordinated this kind of effort multiple times. Also I only make 29k/year. None of my furniture matches, and most of my things are secondhand. CPS pays its workers so little, many of us are on medicaid and food stamps. Still, I love my job. I'm proud of what I do.

As a foster parent, I concur. I learned the hard way to keep my ringer on at all times when we're open for placements, because I've woken up to voicemails from middle-of-the-night emergency placements.
@goats_19

As an actual child welfare worker, I'd like to point out that emergency foster placements exist for a reason. No organization would let an employee and a random cop take a newborn baby home when they have foster parents that are actually qualified.
@Darkrose517
@Darkrose517 2 года назад
I remember an episode of Bones where they found a baby near the mother's dead body and they kept the baby during the case. Dr. Brennan was a foster parent and that's the excuse they used to make it legal I guess. Could that be something that would happen in real life?
@Sofia-airsignrights
@Sofia-airsignrights 2 года назад
@@Darkrose517 I think they also said they needed to keep the baby because it had swallowed something related to the case. Like a key or something iirc? So it made a little more sense (at least in tv logic) for them to have the baby close by but in this movie there's truly no reason they couldn't have let qualified people to take care of this infant lol
@Lucy-fn9rj
@Lucy-fn9rj Год назад
@@Sofia-airsignrights yeah, that was why! she was already licensed to foster and they didn’t want to risk disrupting the chain of evidence. it honestly was much more thought through than i’d expect for a cop show, especially since the goal of the episode was to find living relatives who could raise the baby (which is often the irl goal for kids in foster care)

People think that a child suddenly makes people responsible. There are people that PLAN to have kids and end up being irresponsible parents, so that logic is really unsound. Some people aren’t emotionally ready. Some people genuinely don’t give a shit about babies. Some people never bond with their babies. These people think parenthood is built in us, but it really depends on the person.

Yeah, I thought that was a thing. It's not even as if this girl left the baby anywhere dangerous. She left it inside, somewhere warm with many people around. This isn't the case of her giving birth and dumping the baby in the garbage or putting it in a trash back. He definitely would've been upset either way, if she'd resorted to stealing to feed herself and her child. I mean, formula is incredibly sensitive and she'd need to eat to be able to breast feed(and some just can't breast feed).

Hey Nick! Re: "a dingo ate my baby" / Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton - really wasn't expecting a throwback to a staple of '80s and '90s culture, but you're always full of surprises. This phrase was everywhere when I was growing up, and it was used in place of "an unbelievable, implausible lie to avoid punishment for committing an obvious crime or social faux pas". For example, you'd steal a cookie from the cookie jar and lie about it, and someone might retort "and a dingo ate my baby!" It was on TV, on the radio, in conversation, in advertising. It was worldwide. I had no idea until adulthood that it was based on an actual incident. Lindy and her husband were both charged with their infant daughter's death. Lindy was jailed for 3yrs, then released for a retrial, exonerated in the early '90s, paid restitution by the Australian government, and officially pardoned in 2012 when investigation and research determined that, yes, a dingo had actually stolen the infant from her tent while the parents slept, dragged her away as the mother witnessed, and later ate her. I cannot imagine how difficult Lindy's life must have been for the thirty years or so between her infant disappearing, which is tragic, and her final pardon from the government. It's similar in many ways to the famous "coffee burn" case from the '90s - a woman was seriously hurt, and McDonald's hired lawyers and PR people to turn the talking points into mockery to discredit her. Anyhow. Lovely video, I'm so glad Sweetheart Drywall and One-Dimension Beige got together or whatever. I completely agree about the ending - gross to suggest the family "needs" a biological child to be complete. Also a really ugly slice of conservatism around the "tragedy" of young motherhood. Everyone in this movie is allowed to be incompetent except the teenage mom? Take care, love your stuff, you are hilarious and hot, happy holidays!
@PoptartParasol
@PoptartParasol 2 года назад
Well, I'd imagine Lindy's husband was probably equally as traumatized considering he was also charged for his own baby's death... The thing about an adopted child needing to have a sibling who is the parents' biological child is so fucked and I'm mad about it because I have friends who pretend they don't feel that way but actually do. I have a friend who has told me for years that they want to adopt kids, but recently had a pregnancy scare and told me they would give the baby to their fiancés mom to raise until they were ready for kids (????) And when I said that sounds kind of fucked up for the kid, and also I don't think people in general should be having biological children right now (there are so many kids in the foster care system who need homes, not to mention the fact that the world is going to shit, we maybe shouldn't be bringing kids into it, but that's just my opinion) they told me of course they'll still adopt, they've just always wanted a child of their own. Like an adopted child isn't a "child of your own"? They weren't pregnant, but we've talked about it a few more times (I admit I've been a dick about it, pushing the issue when they didn't really want to talk about it) and I eventually asked why they wanted a biological kid so bad and they were so mad that I kept asking they said "why aren't you okay with me having a real kid?" Of course. I should've known all along they never actually saw adopted kids as real kids. I just didn't want that to be the case.

I was adopted into a great family when I was 6 years old. I had 5 other adopted siblings and 1 that was the only biological. I knew our parents loved everyone equally but it’s a very common feeling to be worried deep down that they’ll always like their biological child compared to the adopted. Hate the fact that many of my siblings also had this concern growing up. It’s a real issue and people who separate their children as “real kids” is continuing the cycle.

the priest is wearing the wrong color robes for xmas, the same attention to detail we can expect from a fox news segment

i really appreciate the way you bring up specific topics when it comes to human safety/rights. instead of just vague blanket statements, def sharing info others might not know or realize

This intro 🙌🏿 😭 Edit: I love that you spend the whole video roasting the cop solely off the fact that his punk ass is a COP

Haha if a baby had been left in a Manger while I was working as the Christmas play director at the last church I attended I would have just gotten on stage "Okay, where did this baby come from? Come on folks we have like 30 members in this church and it's a small town. Everyone knows everyone and you know who's baby this is. Who? It's Bill's? Dang it Bill stop leaving your baby in random churches! The laws already talked to you about this! Bill! Bill stop running! Okay, someone go down the road to the Baptist church and get the Sheriff. Tell him Bill's left his baby at another church."

It's weird how polished every scene and every set is in a movie about child neglect. None of the giant houses, hospitals or foster homes look realistic even tho its a movie about a very real issue. It's like they're making a christmas fairytale about abandoning a child and almost romanticizing it idk

I have never clicked on a video so fast! Ngl I’m here in the uk and my wife went back to the us last week and she’s been affected by the tornado that just hit. It’s sad being so far apart but your videos always manage to cheer me up. Honestly made my day so thank you! 💕

I went to middle school with the girl that played the mom. She was my gay awakening and this channel helped me come out and be proud of myself. So I guess you could say my life has come full circle.

DYING at the "yelling at scared teenagers is not actually part of the job description" part because the officials from my time in the system were downright gainfully employed in legally sanctioned child abuse slight jk but this movie does reflect some terrible realities of the punitive legal system and how it treats minors really, alarmingly well
