Just wanted to add a VERY minor side note about Yannik: Even though the partner card is not in your deck, you can still search and fail to find for any card that says partner. This can be useful because you are allowed to shuffle your deck. All partner cards essentially read "When this enters the battlefield, shuffle your deck". This can be useful if you want to manipulate the top of your library at all.

the reason they made this a single ability, instead of two abilities is because they don't want fiendhunter shenanigan's where your leave the battlefield trigger resolves before the etb, causing the permanents to be exiled forever.

the way she works is: she etb's and you exile up to 4 creatures, one per person. once she leaves play, they all come back, and the one that's your creature gets the 2 counters. it's kind of a group huggy "banishing light" commander (you get slightly more upside with the counters, obviously). it kinda sucks a little bit because she doesn't pay off any other exile ability, such as blink/flicker effects and whatnot, only her own. unlike ranar, who for sacrificing green in your deck, pays it off INSANELY well. of course, the entire reason this commander is going to be helpful is because it's cheaper than ranar (2UW vs just UWG) and adds the much needed ramp from green. you can always just stuff him in the 99 and he'll still likely kick major ass in this deck. furthermore, it's worded this way because fiend hunter's wording is technically split into two effects, and people found a way to use him to just permanently exile whatever it targets by stopping the second half from resolving, basically machine gunning the opponent's board, and they want to make sure that doesn't happen again with any of these cards printed in the future. hopefully this helps some people confused in the comments here :D

I was in the process of building around her, and while I had a number of the cards you were talking about, I missed out on the fiend hunter and a few of his colleagues. You should probably add Suture Priest to your list. It's in your price range and if you get your commander going as part of that infinite combo it'll straight up kill everyone, and/or give you infinite life (should someone not be killable by damage directly)

Basically 1) When it comes into play, for each player you may exile up to one target creature that player controls until she leaves play (basically a Banisher Priest except it hits one creature from each opponent and can do the same for you and/or a teammate) 2) She can't target herself with her own ability. 3) When she leaves the battlefield and the creatures return, if any return under your control (likely due to exiling a creature of your own earlier, but I believe if an opponent stole a creature you owned and you exiled it with her, it would come back under your control), you put two +1/+1 counters on it.

11:34, I don't think it works that way with the packleader. Lagrella says "when that creature enters the battlefield, put 2 +1/+1 counters on it" but if they are 1/1 when they enter, it won't trigger the packleader.
@keel1701
@keel1701 2 года назад
You are correct. Garruk's Packleader triggers if they enter with the counters, but if an ability or spell is putting the counters on after it has entered then it did not have the required power when it entered.
@keel1701

The wording is very specific - she doesn't allow them to "come into play with the counters". It comes into play first, and then you add the counters. Look at Teferi's Time Twist for the different wording that could lead to the Packleader triggering.

@@kevinishki No worries, this is definitely the worst templated card since Dead Ringers. It's basically saying you can target any number of creatures as long as they're legal targets. The legality is determined by the part following "target" in this case "Creatures controlled by different players." For example, say I have a Brushwagg, you have Serra Angel and Sengir Vampire, and Mitch has a Kobolds of Kher Keep. I cast this and exile Brushwagg, Angel and Kobolds. [Any number of other] check. [Creatures controlled by different players] check. All good. Now lets say I try to target Brushwagg, Kobolds, Angel, and Vampire. [Any number of other] still check. [Creatures controlled by different players] Oopsy, we made a fucky-wucky, Angel and Vampire are not creatures controlled by different players, so we can't target them both. Also might help to look at Gifts Ungiven. Even though it says "Up to four cards," you can't grab four copies of Demigod of Revenge because you also need to follow the "with different names" requirement.
