The Best Angel Ever?!? | Giada, Font of Hope | Streets of New Capenna Spoilers | MTG 

Absolutely crazy. Mono white has always been a fav just for the flavor, and angels always seemed just out of reach in just white. But now with this commander and the new cards that have come out... Perhaps it's time to make an angel deck :)

Funny that we get some Angel-tribal love in a set where, at least in the lore, Angels have gone extinct.

This was built to compensate for a lot of weaknesses of the tribe. I’m going to have to rebuild my Sephara deck for this

omg, they knew they had to make her mono white to spite us, but I can't wait to run this card!

The cool thing is the +1/+1 counters also count for angel tokens you create. There are so many spells that create angel tokens, which would make pumping your angels insanely easy. (Plus I think that they would gain stats for each other angel that entered the battlefield with them)

Some other interactions that could be interesting. 1. Mutavault. Just pay 1 mana to have 1 more angel any time you have the 1 extra mana and then your angels you play that turn will get 1 more counter. 2. Harmonious Archon. Probably isn't an angel but the fact that your creatures will have so many counters will let you easily beat out any opposing creatures as they'll mostly just be stuck at 3/3s. This is more of on the fun side and not sure I'd really put it in a competitive version of the deck. 3. Metallic Mimic. More cheap counters. 4. Herald of War. I'd definitely say this is one of the most powerful cards that you should use in the deck and should be an auto-include. Not just able to be a big angel but also able to make all your other angels and humans castable for very cheap. 5. Archangel of Tithes. Not a budget-friendly card but a very powerful card nonetheless. 6. Ghostway. The creatures would come back with a different amount of counters which could be to your advantage and protects against a wrath effect. 7. Door of Destinies. Get even more counters on your creatures. 8. Herald's Horn. Card advantage and cost reduction all in one. 9. Obelisk of Urd. Easy to pay the convoke if a lot of your creatures have vigilance or you just have a lot of creatures in general, and makes your angels even stronger. 10. Vanquisher's Banner. Another way to buff up your angels and draw more cards. 11. Urza's Incubator. Now this is only for those that want a decent number of higher-cost angels but it'd really help you cast them. 12. Kindred Boon. Not the best card but still another way to attempt to protect your creatures so you aren't just destroyed by the next wrath. 13. Radiant Destiny. Probably not as good as alternatives for the same purpose, but can still give virtually your whole board +1/+1 and vigilance. 14. Cavern of Souls, if you don't mind spending a lot of money to get it. But if you're going for lots of different but all cheap spells in the deck making 1 of them uncounterable wouldn't even matter that much so probably not worth the money to most. 15. Path of Ancestry. A bunch of free scry 1s.

LET'S GO! ANGELS GOT A NEW COMMANDER! My first ever Magic deck (that was actually mine) was a mono-white angel tribal deck, lead by Lyra Dawnbringer. I am so happy to see this! Although I'm a little surprised he didn't mention Court of Grace.

So that’s why Elsepth is tasked to protect Giada. She IS an angel and can naturally make halo according to New Capenna lore.

Angels at that mana cost are rare and this one a powerhouse. Definitely will be getting a copy

Herald of War seems really good in a Giada, Font of Hope deck, reducing the cost of all of your Angels and Humans by the number of +1/+1 counters on it.

I'm sorry Magic Historian but... This set is FREAKING AWESOME, this is like the first set in eons that I was genuinely excited for everything in it! Including the freaking commons! When was the last time anyone got excited for commons?! Sure the lore is not the best by far, but really we're taking about MTG not LOTR. X'D I'm definitely building a deck around this card!

I am so glad I had decided to build my angels deck a week ago. I can see the prices of angels skyrocketing for this just like werewolves in midnight hunt and shrines in kamigawa.

You went over ways to go big, but didn't go into going wide. My first thoughts for this were things like divine visitation, devout invocation, luminarch ascension, elspeth sun's champion, and anointed procession. Go hard into the token strat and just get insane numbers both big and wide.

Finally know what I’m going to use to make my first deck, I was really struggling to find something that appealed to me. Thank you!

This has me super excited. Angel tribal was my first solid standard deck when I got back into Magic a few years ago so the tribe has always had a soft spot in my heart.

First thing that came to my mind was Luminarch Ascension, just get enough counters on it and you have infinite ramping angels to place down

'Already' is an interesting word choice. Normally this would just say 'other'. Makes me think that the wording is to prevent excessively large triggers when multiple angels enter at the same time. This will probably only pump based on what was 'already' in play prior to the effect that caused multiple angels to enter play simultaneously.

I'm tempted to try this with my Atraxa Counters & Tokens deck. Get Maskwood Nexus down and just WATCH all the tokens that pop up trigger this effect over and over!

I've got a foil borderless Avacyn and have seen a deck where she was a Commander. Giada will be much better for that deck, and it is becoming real for me now.

She will be going in the 99 of my Liesa Shroud of Dusk Angel Tribal deck, and I might just make a second Angel tribal deck with her as the commander. Absolutely love the card and it’s a great fit for my favorite tribe in magic.

I would have added Soul Foundry and Riptide Replicator with Door of Destinies to the list he had

My friends and I did a challenge to get a random commander suggestion from EDHrec and build a deck around it. I got linvala shield of Sea Gate (wasn't too thrilled about it till I saw the shear awesomeness that can be angel tribal especially since you can combine linvala with adarkar valkary and faces of the past to give your creatures infinite protection from most board wipes and single target removal) Also an angelic skirmisher would work really well in that mono white deck as well

Luminarch Ascension and Sigil of the Empty Throne. Yep.

Giada is a much more powerful commander than Lyra, IMO. Costs a whole 3 mana less, helps compensate for angels' high mana costs, her power boost already matches Lyra's even if Giada is the only creature on the field, can go much higher, *and* does not go away if she's removed. Lyra gives the entire team lifelink, but a lot of angels already have or can gain lifelink, so Giada giving those much higher power can help compensate. Giada *is* shockable and cannot pump herself up, so maybe in a heavy red meta where damage-based removal is flying left and right she can be a squishy target. But in such a meta you're probably dead before you can cast Lyra anyway

I also like the angel that can block any number of creatures and gets +1+1 for each creature it blocks. Give that lifelink & come at me! Also there's an enchantment that if you gain at least 4vlife that turn you get a 4/4 angel token at end of turn.

I built a black and white Angel sacrificial deck (trying to make an infinite angel token loop, like the lifegain drain with exquisite blood and Vito), but I have no clue how to make a black sacrifice deck lol.

As someone who has been playing mono-W Angels with Lyra for years, this is an easy choice for my new Angel commander (or perhaps a second, higher-power deck!) It's great to see Angels finally getting real synergy.

Id say with this being so combat focused, odric (the good one), would be a slam dunk give your angles everything sounds pretty good to me

She’d be good in a Jenara deck, Angel tokens would count too which is interesting

I am wondering if they plan on bringing back the tribal spell mechanic. It says Angel spell, instead of Angel creature spell. So, her mana can be used to cast a Crib Swap or Shields of Velis Vel. Not a huge deal, but I wonder if a future set will have Tribal - Angel as a type. Also, I would like to point out that this is the second white mana dork, ever. The first was Adarkar Unicorn, that had "Tap: Add U or 1U, Spend this mana only to pay for cumulative upkeep cost." So this is the first mono-white creature in the 28ish years of magic history to ever add mana that could be used to cast a spell. This set has some serious fixes for white that have been asked for. It got the ramp. Its now second only to green in that respect, even though most of it is restricted to your opponent having more lands but that's okay, and it got Smothering Tithe. It got this nice little Angel, which I will put in many white decks since a lot of the best white creatures are humans, soldiers, angels or clerics. Then, it has gotten one or two nice card draw engines per set that upped the card draw at least 1 card in certain circumstances or pay to draw a card. Then, in this set, it has some repeated draw effects, in fact, there are so many, its hard to go over. Its like Wizards heard the call from players and finally answered. Some of it is group hug. But, none of it is as bad as the previous answers to card draw they said were fixes to white.

tbh it's really not that much ov a prob even in multi-coloured decks. It doesn't say it can only pay for white, it'll pay for a generic mana in other colors so that's pretty good. All in all this is a beast card but mostly for standard and such.

I think she's going main deck. It's hard to beat Crovax the Redeemed for a mono white reanimation deck that takes a second to get off the ground.

Angels are my favorite and the only way my current does runs is mainly life gain with Gisela Broken Blade. My favorite way to play is violently in the face and this commander will finally allow that at a decent cost.

Me: "New Capenna has angels? Maybe we can finally get a WUBRG Angel Tribal commander?" WotC: "Best I can do is Mono-White."
