Find inner peace - Are you a problem to be solved or a sunset to be enjoyed?

The journey to find inner peace can feel impossible when anxiety, persistent negative thinking, depression, OCD, chronic fear, anger, and phobias show up in our lives. We tend not to experience our pain as something to be worked with but instead something we want to escape. This exercise brings you in contact with two very different ways of being: problem solving and noticing, appreciating, experiencing. Each of these ways of being have a different emotional resonance for each of us and the challenge is to acknowledge how you approach yourself in your most difficult moments and look at a new way of interacting with your experience when it's hard.

It's taken a lot of time to remind myself that I am deserving of being the sunset experience that others see me as, because-- internally-- I still feel like a math problem. The domain I'm reflecting in (work, family, peers) definitely influences my perception as well. Great perspective! thanks :)

Helpful contrast. I realized recently when someone was kissing me that I was being enjoyed. How beautiful that feeling was! And of course I reciprocated.I am learning from your videos. Thanks!

I really DO wanna treat myself as an experience to be enjoyed! And at the same time I see how I treat myself like a problem to be solved when I don't stand up for myself 🤔

Thank you so much Dan for the positive feedback and condolences. It means a lot to me that you'd take the time to comment and share your positive feedback. I used to do this exercise, pretty much verbatim with all of my clients. I need to do it again!!

I know I'm super late to the party, but I wondered if anyone else has solved the first two math problems but then thought "wait, he didn't say to solve them"so I didn't solve the second to but just looked at them. For the sunset, I noticed that the time it was on screen was the exact time it took for one relaxed in and out breath. But when I look at my painful situation, it has impacted my life so much that I try to solve it all the time. I feel so disappointed that at age 69 I have dealt with this since my twenties but its impact on my life has not lessened in the slightest. I dont let it stop me at all, but I had hoped that over the years my feelings would become congruent with my actions, but nope. At least im not paralyzed.

I realize that I perceive myself as a problem to be solved and I see the impact it has on my mood; at the same time I would like to learn how to consider myself as a sunset to be enjoyed. Any clue?

I can relate, I’ve been stuck in problem solving mode even on myself over the last couple weeks. Thanks for taking the time to write.

So glad I found your videos. I was in my dark place when I woke up today. Feeling like life is hopeless.

I’ve been there a few years ago. The hopelessness was crippling to me, it’s why I neglected this RU-vid channel. It matters a lot to me that you took the time to write a comment and be vulnerable here. I’ll keep making RU-vid content and I hope that I’ll see more of you in the comments. 🙏🏼

I know it’s late but I felt isolated and alone looking at the sunset picture.
