Finishing The Exterior Of Our Home With Rebar And Concrete Walls

We are starting to build the concrete forms for the concrete walls that we will attach our stone to. This wall will close in the underside of our house to protect our home from the weather and animals. The project is proving to be tedious already but we are excited to see how it transforms the curb appeal of our home.
Shop Our Apparel: www.bunkerbranding.com/pages/...
We are a couple building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" however, we also have a secondary channel dedicated to our family life outside of the build- "Wild Wonderful After Show".

In the corner, where the foundation comes together, you should go ahead and create a safe place for your family to go for rough weather. Go ahead and put two additional walls to firm a box and reinforce the floor of your house, or ceiling above the room. Even put in a concrete floor. This will cost very little but give you a safe place to go that will protect your family.

I would like to add with the plywood issue on the inside of the house when forming a temporary wall. I would think Josh and Arron will remove the inside plywood since it’s not treated wood. No need to add wood to ground contact for bugs/terminates to breed and trail up to the underneath wood framing. I would also suspect Josh will put in an inspection door somewhere around the bottom. So they have access too any future water or pluming/electric issues. I guess I can speak for the rest of us it’s so refreshing too see y’all’s humor and playful nature with each other. The tooth vlog was a hoot keep them coming y’all it’s so much fun to watch...

Near the end of the video I saw what looked like a hawk fly by behind Josh. I wonder if you have lost any chickens to hawks or other predators like fox or coyote since the chickens are free ranging all over the property. BTW, I get tired just watching all the work you are doing and have yet to do, but hopefully the foundation is the last big outdoor project for the year. Good luck!

Hi Josh and Erin. You guys are great in working together and a great example of great parents. I have a suggestion for you. Seeing that Erin is such a great farmer and all rounder, why don't you guys utilize the bottom part of the house which you are covering up now, to a vegetable/ tools storage area. Closing up the whole area will also cause a lot of dampness beneath the house which in the long run will damage all the wooden floors. If you convert it to a vegetable garden, you will have to change the top part of the planned wall and insert small windows which will allow air to dry out any dampness. If you are worried about not enough sunlight, you will have ample space to produce mushrooms which would provide you a healthy income once you have it running, as that needs no sunlight. You can also have a section where you could store garden tools and fertilizers etc. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

Ahmed, make a list of the qualities you want in a partner, and then let it go... let the universe bring that person to you. As you're making the list, think of it as listing the qualities of your partner as if you were already together and you were listing what you are grateful for. And remember - the great irony in life is that you can't HAVE a healthy relationship until you don't NEED it - you have to be healthy yourself first - so work on yourself first. The right person will present when you are ready (spiritually) and not before.

Back braces aka heavy duty work harness wear will protect your backs from injury and or future issues such as arthritis and sciatica, I speak from experience. Your Mrs's can also look into combating future osteoporosis in her spine and skeletal frame by taking calcium with potassium vitamins daily. Women who have been pregnant and or given birth suffer from brittle bones, which affect teeth and their spines as they are, but is drastically accelerated by extremely hard physical labor such as construction, exercise and daily outdoors farm/field work. You'll thank God when you avoid getting the hump on your upper back through following my tips and suggestions. Have you thought about putting an access door on the high end to allow you good access below the home? It could be hid under the deck you're going to build in the future?
@soupofpossibilities8537

Under the future deck is prob best - water flows away instead of to. I expect Josh or Erin has thought of this.

I've cut a lot of rebar in my time building our all concrete house. The easiest tool to use is a 14" abrasive cutoff saw. It gets the job done without a lot of force necessary and you can cut multiple bars in one pass.

I don't like the saw horses I like wood that way you can cut into them. And just replace the 2x4 top board.

@@dneuman7455 That's why they are called saw horses or at least so I always thought. You certainly would not want to call them gutters now would you?

If you make the forms go all the way up, how are you going to pour concrete into the forms? I thought you would leave maybe 8 inches open at the top so you can pour in the concrete and level it off, then to fill in that last 8", using cinder blocks.

Why not use cider block from the foundation to the frame?
@soupofpossibilities8537

I think there's a few inches on the outside top. Josh, slope the top of the concrete away from the beam. They talked about the cinder block - Josh feels comfortable working concrete, but masonry not so much.
@digitalportraitist
@digitalportraitist 3 года назад
By far the dumbest thing he has done yet. The concrete will never permanently adhere to those columns. Should have paid a mason a days wage and have block done.

Nice to watch between the morning fellowship at Orange Avenue and the evening Bible study and six o’clock service. Very warm and friendly, family loving one another ... worshiping ... so thankful for each other ... then lunch and back to the nest to wait to head back to fellowship ... and be able to love ... and be loved. So excited to see the coming completion ... the finishing ... and to watch the effort of love being poured out to accomplish this great work. It’s called ... FAMILY. You do not have a house ... you have made a ... “home”. Almost there. The cold wind has begun to blow the fall away ... soon you will enjoy the warmth of the home and live even closer during the time of ice and snow. Perhaps small interior finish effort will keep you busy filling the winter months. The animals will always keep you out some ... great time for the children to see ... survival. So Blessed to share your family ... thank you. Semper Fi

To keep plywood forms from blowing out use 1/2 inch pvc spaced 1 foot apart in the form than use all thread bolts, 2x4's, large washers, and nuts to clamp both boards together on the pvc pipes. After concrete is cured forms and all thread are pulled fill pvc pipes with grout.

i’m sure when you two start the pour i’ll understand how the concrete is gonna get in there...i think i see a very small space in the front where it could be poured but i’m like 😳 will it be enough room?! also...where are you planning to have an access to the underside once you get it closed in? good luck with the progress this week!! ❤️

I was thinking the same, but when he said they were placing the outer wall outside the columns, I presumed there was room to pour the concrete in via that small gap. We'll see... :)

same thing too, but i didnt see any spot at all not even a gap to pour the concrete into I hope the mix is slushy enough to not cause air pockets.

Well, I think I'm following this. Will the underside of the house still be accessible via a hatch if any of the pipework springs a leak or is it completely closed in and fixable from the top side? Gah.. I clearly no nothing about house building and US construction styles even less so! Still..looks great and I've no doubt that it'll all make sense to me once the stonework goes on, everything else you've done has so far. 👍
