Glad it worked out and you and your family are okay. Great information, thanks for sharing.

Much appreciated. My wife and kids were not home at the time which is good as I would have taken time to yell for them to get out of the house which could have given the fire a few more seconds to spread.

Very good information with perfect timing. And since many of us are spending more time at home or in our DIY shops due to the pandemic, this is the perfect time to do our own fire safety inspections and upgrades. Thank you for sharing.

Glad everyone is safe. Looks like the extinguishers that were on sale at Costco and BJ's about six months ago. I really meant to pick up a couple of extras. I have one in the kitchen and one in the furnace room, but they are pretty old now.
@BronkBuilt

As long as they are in the green pressure zone and not damaged they should be fine.

@@BronkBuilt The new ones that have the needle. The older ones I bought and many many years ago, I don't think they had them on there. They were cheaper versions.
@BronkBuilt
@BronkBuilt 4 года назад
Wow, didn't know they ever had them with no way of telling if they still had adequate pressure. If it were me, I'd replace them.

glad you and your home were safe although i do own a Mr Buddy i will admit i like the old kerosene heaters like my Grandparents used in the 1970s Grand Dad used them for years without any incidents i am 56 years old and as i age i like to use products and methods i know people have used with great success especially when it comes to safety ive been a boater for over 35 years and i’m a firm believer in fire extinguishers btw i have a large extended family and often for the holidays i give new extinguishers as presents and will go buy their homes and check on dates of their older ones

Thank you. I hope others watch it and take the advice of buying an inexpensive unit just for testing and learning what it is like to use one so they are very familiar with them in case they ever have to use one.

@@BronkBuilt yes practicing is a must we had people both men and women when they pulled the trigger just dropped the extinguisher and ran squealing.

I just had my extinguisher inspected last week. I have a home daycare and have to have it done once a year.

With kids in your care, you definitely need to do that.

Pro Tip (yes, I'm an actual pro): Keep your fire extinguisher at the exit door of your house/shop/wherever.. That way, if a fire starts in your house, you are already at the door, able to escape, if the fire gets too big to handle. NEVER keep the FE in the middle of the house thinking that it's quicker to get to from wherever you are. My grandfather (ex fire chief) actually refused to have a fire extinguisher in the house, so that no one was tempted to try to fight the fire. If a bit of baking soda on the flaming frying pan didn't put it out, then GET OUT OF THE HOUSE.

You can't tell from the video, but our inside extinguisher is in the kitchen and only about 3 steps to the right of our exit door. Not right at exit door but really close. I didn't do that knowing your tip, just coincident. That tip makes sense though. I totally see what you are saying about don't try and fight the fire at all, but i respectfully disagree. If your Christmas tree catches fire, get out now. Will spread faster than you can get to you extinguisher. On the other hand, if it is a small fire, like I had and you can keep a solid escape route, I'm going to try the extinguisher. I didn't think about it, but I would agree that if in trying to but it out you even give a sight chance of losing your exit route, then just get out now. Thanks for the advice.

@@BronkBuilt yes, Im all for attempting to fight the fire, but I still have the FE at the doors so you get that moment to decide if its better to fight or flee.

@@stevenlarson6125 That just sounds like a good idea for sure. The one I put in my garage is right by the garage door and while mine in the kitchen is only about 4-6 feet away, I think I'll move it even closer. Thanks and stay safe!

Thanks. I have a couple smaller projects already done. Just waiting to get time to edit. I will be starting a king size bed, probably out of ash really soon as well.

Great video. As far as your breathing issue ... one of the things a fire extinguisher does is remove the oxygen from the fire ... and it does the same thing in your lungs. Also even though your fire extinguisher is in the green it may not be good. The extinguishers need to be rotated to keep the material stays "Un-packed".
@BronkBuilt
@BronkBuilt 4 года назад
I did not know that about rotating them. Thanks for the info.
