Fire Maple are making some great tools. I do prefer my cooking pots to stand up to direct flame, so I use the 1.2L bushpot.

I agree. An all stainless setup would be best. I am thinking this is designed for use with a gas stove. Thanks for commenting

I concur. I wonder if the bowls from the Dualist set will fit inside the bushpot? It would be nice if they did as it would allow one to share food with someone else or to eat from while the pot is being used for other tasks while one is eating.

Thanks a bunch Mark! I did buy both this Duo and the Bush Pot and found that even though the metal lid will fit the Duo, the bowls that can hold a fuel canister inside the Duo will not fit inside the Bush Pot. So there is not a complete interoperability between the two. Have to pick your pot wisely for your trip or carry both! LOL ! Jeff

Yes, the rim inside the billy prevents the bowls from nesting. Would have been nice if they did. Thanks for commenting

An upside down pie plate would be a nice lid and then can be used as a plate.

@@MarkYoungBushcraft it’s funny but I think it was one of your videos that got me started using pie plates. They work great for all kinds of things. Food prep, ground barrier for fire, tender collection, eating plate, mixing bowl, etc. your channel is amazing. I don’t buy anything without checking to see if you’ve reviewed it first. Keep it up!

isn't it funny how 1.2 litres seems to have become a world wide industry standard capacity for medium to large camping pots ?

Makes for a good one person pot with a bit more room to work with for other than boiling water or a two person water boiler. Thanks for commenting

Thanks for another great review Mark! It seems like they took the silicone coating on the handle and the plastic lid from GSI’s Halulite series and the stainless steel pot from their Glacier series and put them together… Not a good match IMHO. Plastic lids shouldn’t be included in a bushcraft lineup. Also, it seems like a great pot, but it’s just too close to the other 1.2L Antarctic bush pot they sell. I have the GSI glacier 1.1 L boiler and it’s a great pot… It would be great to see a side-by-side review along with the new Stanley pot (1.1L).

Yes, a few of the features don't seem to belong on something intended for bushcraft. I will see what I can do about a comparison video. Thanks for commenting

I like the fact that you can fit an 8oz gas canister in it. As for cooking over an open fire if you run out of gas or don't have a small wood stove, maybe just place it on the edge of the fire and take a small piece of aluminum foil for a lid.

G'day Mark, yep always good to have a self contained kit. I really like the idea of a see through lid, (I even take a glass lidded saucepan car camping), but yeah I'm with ya, I wouldn't be going with this material for the privilege; nor would I be taking glass in a pack, ...... so SS it is for on the trail. I'm also with ya on sporks; the compromise isn't worth it. I do actually have a long handled job, but better for stirring rather than eating. In fairness, it does serve, pardon the pun, as a back up to a long handled spoon and looking for the best method of using the two together as tongs. You can sorta do it, kinda like chopsticks, but gotta be a better way without, "permanently" fixing them together, ............ might as well just take tongs. I was mess'n about with various clothes peg springs but couldn't quite get there with the handle cross section I have. Btw; have you ever seen a light weight, non folding, long handled fork ? Ti really shines when it comes to utensils IMO, but to get said fork, I'd be happy with SS ............... anyone ? Cheers Duke.
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft Год назад
Hi Duke. I do have a long handle titanium spoon. Great for deep pots or freeze dried meals. Bit harder to pack sometimes due to its length. In a few of my videos I use a cheap hack using a short length of PEX plastic pipe that I flattened for pairing a spoon and fork together to make a pair of tongs. Works great. Thanks for commenting

I like it, Mark. Thanks for the heads up. For future video subjects, maybe? I saw somewhere that you can actually boil water in a plastic pop bottle by simply laying a bottle filled with water in the fire coals. The bottle won't melt thanks to the heat-sink action of the water inside. Don't know if it would be useable for tea or coffee or soup BUT it would be a good source of hot water for washing the dishes after the meal. Thought you might be interested?
