Yohann Géne was the first Black Professional Cyclist (Guadeloupian) in Tour de France's 118 Year History. Yohann Géne was born June 25, 1981 in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe to humble beginnings in an economically and racially charged land. Géne was discovered in the late 1990’s and had a 15 seasons and seven Tour de France appearance cycling career.
Géne's story is one of inspiration, perseverance, and determination as he surely has endured many racial slurs, discourtesies, and cold receptions. Similar to Major Taylor, Géne was a trail blazer that worked hard, remained focus, and paved the way for others to follow.
