I've been waiting for this one! I recently bought the Little Office of Baltimore, and am really enjoying it. Also coming from a Jewish background, I was looking for a siddur-like experience (fairly straightforward, page-after-page experience, with maybe slight variation for liturgical season or day of the week). I therefore also found this Little Office rather hits the nail on the head. When I described it to another Catholic, formerly Jewish friend he said, "so basically a siddur".

I just bought this and i can tell you the quality to cost ration is insane. 23$ for something easily worth double or even triple the money. Sewn binding, generous yap and good quality paper. Truly a fine book.

@@TheJewishCatholic Sadly, yes there are sedevacantists. We must pray for their conversion to Christ, so that they could be a member of Christ's Bride, the Catholic Church.
@BB-kt5eb

Yes, they’re sedevacantists and we shouldn’t fall into that trap, however, they do have nuggets of information about our tradition that the post-conciliar Church has made difficult to obtain and understand. Francis is bent on suppressing these pre-conciliar traditions. We need to pray for the pope to unite and no longer divide and to strengthen and no longer weaken the faith. It’s up to us however to do these things and I don’t even understand most of it because no one has taught it in my lifetime.

The Blessed Sacrament Prayerbook by Fr. Lasance is excellent, only problem is that it is in 2 pt. font. If you want the Catholic siddur you might want to get the the Roman Brivery published by Baronius Press but it is quite expensive... $400 for the set. There is another set put out by International Commission on English in the Liturgy and simply called the Liturgy of the hours about $150. The Liturgy of the Hours is similar to the Siddur. Structure is important as it helps with discipline and to maintain habitual prayer which was and still is one of the Jewish pecularities. I do not like when people do the ad hoc prayers as you can never known when the guy goes a little crazy... Benny Hinn's wife during her ad hoc prayers asked the Holy Spirit for an enema ...

The things that I cannot find in this little office are the "conclusions of prayers for the collect" unlike for the little office of the BVM and Missals that is included in the last page, and also the "Rubrics for the Recitation" wherein it will guide you when to do the sign of the cross and other bodily actions such doing sign of the cross on the heart area when saying "convert us" at office of compline, and on the lips when saying "O Lord open thou my mouth"... and better if they put in a separate paper the "optional prayers before praying the office and after prayering".

Dear Daniel, question about Little office of Baltimore: in Prime there is a part that says here is said the Martyrology; where do I find that? I just got the book!! Thank you for introducing us to this beautiful prayer!!
@TheJewishCatholic
@TheJewishCatholic Год назад
That would be another book. Basically to read about martyrs. A reminder to pray for the souls who have departed from this realm. The one I know of is “The American Martyrology”. I’m sure there are more. Basically a book of Martyrology will do. You can find them online.

I love this little office, but I'm kind of confused. Do you omit 'alleluia' only when and where the office tells you too? We're in the week of Quinquagesima right now, but Matins, Lauds, and at least one antiphon I found in the little office all say 'alleluia,' yet they don't say to omit it in red text. If you see what I'm saying. Thanks!

Why can’t the book break it down itself? I ordered it, but I don’t understand how to pray it. It doesn’t say what day to read and pray each prayer or what times of day to pray them. I have no way of keeping track of what and when.

I like how you aren’t separating your Jewish heritage you are simply acknowledging Judaism continues into the Catholic Church the ‘continuation’ of Judaism! St. Peter of course being concerned that individuals needed to convert to Judaism before coming to the Church. With St. Paul advocating that this wasn’t necessary. And St. Paul (Saul) of course thinking at first that Christianity was the enemy of true religion and a threat to Judaism until his conversion realising Christ is the fulfilment of the Torah. More folks need to look to and study our Jewish ancestors and that they are indeed part of the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. For instance to reverse what you are saying would be to say King David was Catholic. Great Video. The Little Office of BVM is also a great one and I like using that one.

What is the difference between this book and the actual larger 4 volume set? Does this one not have all the hours?
@dustash1578
@dustash1578 2 года назад
I believe the full set has different prayers and readings for every day that have a two year cycle. This is an abridgement of the full thing. The full office is really only something you could do as a monk or nun as I understand it.
@sld7262
@sld7262 2 года назад
I use the single volume version called "Christian Prayer" (which is also used by many priests and deacons instead of using the 4 volume set). There is another version called "Shorter Christian Prayer", but it is lacking a lot.
