For Reaper users that might try Maschine as a plugin within the DAW: Arm the track for recording to eliminate the pad latency. You don't have to set an input--apparently the hardware communicates directly with the plugin. But you need to arm the track or there's a significant amount of latency. It's kind of cool running Maschine on a track in Reaper for things like creating unique top loops within your project.
@auroranamex5886
@auroranamex5886 Год назад
Reaper also has a bunch of actions that make recording midi/audio from maschine less painful ( like autorouting and split a midi item into many by midi channel). And you can use web interface on your phone to maintain transport controls.

Why a MUSIC instrument cant come packed in room treatment foam squares instead of anything else makes no sense to me. How cool would it be that we could even have custom foam squares with the LOGO of each company so folks can collect the squares and add em to their studios. Could even make em in Tetris shapes and other puzzle shapes that fit together to make goo packing but also make for cool studio treatment. , all colors, just anything but that styrofoam. And no studio is gonna be hurt by extra room treatment no?

I have been on the fence about this one and the MPC One for a while now, but it is so hard to find reviews which show the first bits of time learning the thing current with 2023. This just sold me on the Maschine. The friction seems incomparably less than the MPC One once you have the workflow down.

Maschine's best part to me is that it exceeds even Ableton's Session view for crafting ideas. The way the Ideas (clips) work is as how it should be, to me anyway - the same one is used across the Scenes, so unless you make a copy, any change you make applies to all. I think this is by far the better default for clips that get shared across scenes, vs. Ableton's way of making everything a copy without allowing them to be edited as one unit (i.e., make a few scenes, and want to nudge a note - gotta remember to do it to all the copies of that clip across scenes...)

Maschine defnitely rewards forcing yourself to stay hands on to learn it. Changing tempo, editing already performed notes, and even things like routing / layering / bouncing are very quick once you learn how and get some practice at it. I move off of it mostly for typing labels and of course vsts.

To be honest I didn't even realise that you hadn't a video about maschine mk 3 on the channel yet. It's strange since I'm interested in this device, I must have forgotten to check. Inspite of some problems it seemed to me that you had fun with it, which was great to watch. As for compatibility with different plugins, I'm glad many companies makes their plugins nks compatible nowadays, so we can use them with komplete kontrol and maschine, it's so much faster. Then it depends only on the manufacturer making good mapping of parameters or at least usable macros.

My advice is stick to NKS compatible plugins when using machine, the intergration is fantastic. Also, it's worth taking the time to properly import your sample collection to make it less clunky when using your own stuff. Finally, DAW intergration is absolutely amazing if you have the time/interest to look into it. I rarely use Maschine stand alone but it's the heart of my setup inside Studio One.

I really wish they'd kept some of the benefits of the Maschine Studio. Although, I was pissed that it got devalued with the Mk3 for quite a while. :) But it really was the ultimate since it had buttons for everything, just needed an updated version labeled for the new features better. Not really sure why they didn't at least add a column of buttons on the right, would make almost no Shift-functions needed. The dedicated jog wheel was useful for nudging notes as well.

I just bought one of these. My one gripe is that the microphone input is (a) not balanced and (b) has no phantom power (no condensors that require phantom power), (c) has not much input gain. The line inputs also have very little gain for sampling. Some synths line levels are plenty hot already but some are not. Sampling from synths, your mileage may vary, or a preamp may be required to get good results.

I wouldnt say its something for someone who's a "novice". I got my MK3 3 years ago because I wanted to be less on the computer coming from FLstudio, which I started using about 12 years ago. so yes, I would personally say that its great for someone who doesnt want to constantly be on their computer and use their mouse and keyboard to make music. ofcourse for some things you'll have to go back to your screen, like if you use 3rd party VST's. even though Maschine attempts to assign the buttons and knobs to those on the controller..its not a great experience unless you open the VST on your computer. but this is only for when you are designing your sound. long story short, compared to using only a DAW on a computer...the Maschine is an inspiration machine. and having actual knobs, buttons and pads to express yourself without having to look at your computer at all is amazing.

@GabeMillerMusic
@GabeMillerMusic Год назад
I still think the Mikro is great value for money, and I don't regret getting it when I did. It's definitely not as hands-on though, since it doesn't have knobs and the screen is tiny, forcing you to do more stuff on the computer. If it was all I had I could still absolutely get a ton out of it and have a great time doing so. For my purposes, since I have the space and was able to afford it, the MK3 is absolutely the choice for me, but if I was making it beats on the go a lot more or constrained in terms of budget, the Mikro would come in clutch.

I might at some point! That's a hell of an undertaking and I worry that I'd miss stuff or put emphasis on elements that other prospective users might not care about, but it would definitely be interesting. This video kinda confirms my suspicions about this device: - As a hybrid experience, it falls short of the mighty Ableton Live + Push 2 combination that offers not only superior software but also a better controller experience when in Session view (Arrangement view is where you use mouse and keyboard) - As a standalone experience it falls short of the MPC platform
@lifer86
@lifer86 Год назад
That's a pretty easy conclusion to make by watching video of who is unfamiliar with the hardware and software fumbling around with it and learning. The workflow is largely regarded as being more intuitive than using an MPC. Live and Push 2 could be better (I haven't tried) but they also cost more than a Maschine MK3.
@Drrolfski
@Drrolfski Год назад
@@lifer86 Unfamiliarity is exactly what exposes the stuff that isn't intuitive on a device. And it makes this video valuable. Ableton Live and Push 2 are absolutely intuitive, the MPC is not. But you can get a good standalone experience out of it. And that's something that the Maschine mk3 is simply not designed for.
@GabeMillerMusic
@GabeMillerMusic Год назад
Glad the video was valuable! I also do have a first day video with the MPC One from a while ago. I prefer the MPC for standalone, but there are definitely things the Maschine ecosystem does better (like access to NI plugins, more flexible interface). @Drrolfski
@Drrolfski Год назад
@@auroranamex5886 The Push 2 has a proper hybrid workflow, meaning it was designed from the ground up to be used with a mouse and keyboard. So you probably set the wrong expectations when you bought the Push 2. What this video shows to me though is that if you want more of a standalone production experience instead, the Maschine MK3 still falls short and you're probably better off with an MPC or even a Maschine Plus MK2 when it comes out. It's exactly this reasoning that made me buy an MPC Live 2, which btw is designed to work well with Ableton Live.

@@Pissarrio whatever DAW you end up getting, learning it well is your #1 priority, DAWs are 90% the same, so learning the one you pick is most important If you cannot decide on one, just get Ableton or Cubase, they are the best ever. 😎

Gabe, you did say that it does not need to be used with a computer. I will only buy it if it is standalone because I am anti computer. Please verify that it can be standalone. Ok, now I have watched further and you are using it as a standalone. Sorry, i am one of your 60 year old fans

Just to be clear, the Maschine MK3 does NOT work without a computer. The Maschine+ is the standalone one.

@@GabeMillerMusic Thank you, also they print that the Mikro can be used as a standalone but all RU-vid people use the computer with it also. Leaning towards a Roland MC101 or Akai MPC ONE

I wish all young people knew where the phrase 'like' came from, in addition to how people using it were perceived (in the 80s). If curious, just look up 'Valley Girls".... "like', that should give you a heads-up, like pretty quick.
