First Deployment: Tie Fighter Total Conversion: Reimagined - #1 

Time to start getting some new videos up on the channel and this is one I have been wanting to play for some time. the Tie Fighter Total Conversion, A re-creation of one of the freatest starfighter sims of all time in a more "modern" engine with heavy graphical upgrades. So, it's time to put these rebels in their place! For the EMPIRE!

I miss the golden age of lucasarts.

Man, I played so much TIE Fighter back in the day. This is stunning. Still has the best "radar" system that nobody has ever duplicated.

TIE Fighter is without a doubt the best space fighter I ever played. Just trying to get the primary, secondary and hidden objectives all completed and going up in the ranks of the Emperor's Hand was so exciting.

You ever have nostalgia for memories you forgot for the past 20 years? That opening cutscene I had completely forgotten, but watching it made the memories flood back! I used to watch my brothers play this when I was a little kid. So glad people are giving it the love it deserves. Long live the Empire!

We will watch your career with great interest. X-Wing / TIE Fighter games are part of my core education as a game playing person. It's great to see you take a look at this total conversion, X-Wing Alliance had some interesting improvements to the earlier games.

Great work. This is a dream of mine, as someone who played through TIE-Fighter, X-Wing vs TIE-Fighter, etc. I used to participate in a forum called the OPT project, making new ships and adding them to the game. At the time, the ability to mod and create ships was very limited, and we had to be very creative therefore. I can't believe it's been going on since then. It was the start of the golden period of gaming, where us young kids with our creative minds suddenly entered an imaginative world of pure potential and possibilities. My father got me the Star Wars collection. I still remember that day, almost 30 years ago. He has since passed away, so these nostalgic memories are of a time when he was still here.

One of my proudest accomplishments in life is an opportunity to contribute to the legacy of this game in the form of this mod. (Concourse/Pilot Room/ Email/ Voice acting). I really hope you enjoy the gameplay.

NOOOOOOOO Don't remove the secret order missions... those made Tie FIghter the best game ever. The feeling of working for the Emperor (via a middle man) was one of the greatest feelings.

Did not know this existed, super excited to get it running. Tie Fighter is the game that got me into both PC gaming and StarWars. I was a Trekkie if anything before then.

Wow, i remember it finishing the campaign as an Imperial General as an Emperor`s Hand and now this brings a tear to my eyes :)

I bought a 100mhz Pentium machine in May of '95. I bought the spec. ed. of X-WING right away, along with the Thrustmaster F-16 FLCS flight stick right away, but the throttle would be delayed in it's release for a while. I played through X-WING in a few weeks and loved it. When the spec. ed. of TF came out I got it as well. Played it, loved it too. Today I barely remember anything about them. But seeing you play this brought back this mission to me. Though I remember it as being a lot less cluttered, and 3 YT-1300's in close proximity. Looking forward to more. Keep it going.

This game is a national treasure. It's a huge reason I picked up the flight controls in real life.

I remember playing Xwing vs Tie fighter at a gaming club with a LAN setup with about a dozen? PC's and for a few bucks for a hours flying you could do massive furballs......

I can't count how many hours I put into X-Wing Alliance. This reminds me of when Star Wars was still actually Star Wars.

Wow! Now this is a new series I might enjoy even more than cold waters! Think I might also have to give it a go as looks great and I loved the original. I still have the book guides to both Xwing and Tie fighter on my book shelf at home so maybe it's time to dust them off!

This is Star Wars the way I remember it. I was so obsessed with this game in 1995 - 96 that I dreamed of it while sleeping at school.

So I watched the beginning of this in the small muted preview mode, and the theme song played so loud in my head that I legitimately thought I heard it playing from my speakers.

Thank you so much! Completely forgot about his classic and now seeing it in beautiful updated graphics is wonderful.

Notice how the missions don't have asteroids FUCKING EVERYWHERE. That's because space is empty, kids. Really, really empty. That's one of the things that drove me nuts about squadrons. It felt more like a maze game than a dogfight simulator.

Oh boy I'm gonna have to buy a joystick again ... As someone who grew up with Tie Fighter, being able to hyper in and then see a big fleet like that - amazing!

Yeah, Squadrons didn't get the differences between the ships right, as I recall. If I remember correctly, it's been a while since I played squadrons, instead of making the imperial fighters faster and more maneuverable on a constant basis they gave them like, a speed boost special or something, on a cooldown, which DOES NOT feel or function like a proper imperial fighter. They gave TIE fighters excessive armor, instead of making them fast and maneuverable. Yes, outpacing and outmaneuvering your foes would give the imperial fighters a distinct advantage if they could get behind their enemies, but that's why the rebels had to fly with wingmen, not only that, imperial fighters would almost always deploy in massive numbers to overwhelm their opponents. In squadrons, you deploy what? 4? And maybe a handful of NPC fighters. That is NOT the compliment of an imperial class star destroyer, or even a victory class. Granted, in a head on battle most times the rebel fighters would win against basic TIE fighters, cutting them down, but only until they could get behind them, or come at them from the flank. Then there's my favourite imperial fighter, the defender. Shields as good or better than an x-wing, a payload close to that of a bomber, and the speed and maneuverability of a TIE, they'd mop the floor with ANY rebel fighter, and even take on capital ships. Yet in squadrons, they had a weak shield, again no imperial fighter had the speed or maneuverability they should have had. Most of the rebel fighters felt like a pretty good match I think, to what they should be, if I remember correctly, except maybe the a-wing. For the same reasons I listed above. Speed and maneuverability. Sorry to harp on those points so much, but, I think that's a big part of what was lacking. Well, that and the single player story could have done better with two seperate campaigns, one imperial, one rebel/new republic. If they wanted intertwining storylines they could do that with two seperate campaigns, but the flip flopping back and forth is immersion breaking. Anyway, I've talked your ears off I'm sure. That's just some of my opinions.

The only thing I wish is that I'd caught this mostly through the campaign so I could binge it. This TC is just incredible. Stuff I couldn't have even dreamed of back playing original Tie Fighter.

The X-Wing and Tie Fighter games of the 90s were incredible games. I grew up on those two and the Wing Commander series, not to mention Doom, Duke Nukem and others. How I miss that golden age of gaming, man. Now we get games half finished and using it's players as beta testers for a cool $69.99 a pop, hardware companies charging astronomical prices. It's sucked the joy out of gaming.

It's beautiful. Yeah the audio you commented on does sound like the original audio. I was about to comment about how the new voice actors had replicated the intonation of the originals, but it makes more sense that it was the original.

Now in your deployment of your Tie Fighter, you went ahead of all the other Tie Fighters to personally scan every ship before the rest of your squadron even arrived. Excellent thinking.

OMG Tie Fighter was the progenitor of my love of Space Sims. I played the shit out of Tachyon the Fringe but I was a little too young to truly understand what was going on in TIE Fighter to TRULY appreciate it at the time. A Remake/reimagining of it is EXACTLY the sort of thing I would absolutely LOVE.

oh man, nostalgia. I played the heck out of this game when it came out. I had a level creator that was fun. play as TIE defender against increasing waves of enemies. so much fun was had

👍 Xwing Alliance was my first ever game that forced me to use nearly ALL the keys on the keyboard, along with my Logiteck gamepad. Really hope this conversion gets finished.

I played the living snot out of this game back in the day (Wing Commander III too). Good to see the game is alive still. I wore out multiple joysticks on those 2 games. Tie Fighter was a huge improvement over it's predecessor X-Wing, in how playable it was. And it was in VGA 640x480, compared to 320x240 for X-Wing, which made a huge difference in graphics. The A-Wings in later missions were a tough challenge. It was very hard to get the turning circle on them.

Downloaded the mod after seeing this series. You make it look too easy! Love these old school games that are not as forgiving as the modern stuff though.

Wow this brings the nostalgia, hard. I must get this modpack. The 90s LucasArts games were unbelievably good. X Wing Alliance was peak Golden Age gaming. Gimme my TIE Defender and we're gunna have a good time! They sure don't make em like they used to!

I really put my hopes in Squadrons but after the first few missions I had enough allready. The feeling of the starfighters, the amount of fighters you could fly with, the radar system, no pointless chatter with cringe characters, the strict and useful mission briefing and some really hard missions - all that made TIE Fighter from 1994 great and was missing in Squadrons. What we got with Squadrons were silly special moves. No more knowing your fighter and pull every last ability out of it in the right moment - just press a few buttons and you will make an automatic hard turn for example. I was bored and annoyed at the same time. This mod on the other hand looks amazing and I will try it out. :)

My favorite thing in this game is to load up on proton torpedoes or concussion missiles and set to unlimited ammon and invincibility, then attack my own star destroyer. Eventually more star destroyers come and they send endless tie bombers after you while the officer on your side says "destroying [imperial vessel was not wise]". Then just shoot down tie bombers for a whole hour or so LOL. The Tie fighters had superior radar to the X wing at least on the engine the game was running on. The Tie Defender was 100% the best fighter on either side.

This looks incredible. I'd love to play it, but I doubt my reflexes & piloting skills are at the level they were 30 years ago. The were more than a few missions in which you had to pull off some insane piloting and gunnery to complete the objectives for the Secret Order of the Emperor. Full sped to Kilimaar, good sir.

Must say, the game looks amazing! Granted, I still remember playing the original game back in the day. (yes, I am old. lol) Such a fun game. I think I mostly enjoyed the storyline over just the action. Going from a relative nobody to a rising star in the Imperial navy, to a crack piloting ace, to a key factor in thwarting a coup, to the Emperor's favorite with HUGE rewards coming your way. . . .once he gets back from Endor. While it looks like some of the mundane tasks were sped up a little, some of the gameplay style looks a little overwhelming to me. Still, it was fun to watch.

I like the windows, but I follow the idea that the TF pilot helmets had an AR setup with additional holographics projected on the interior panels that are only visible while wearing the helmet.

Man, I hope they didn't change my 'favorite' line; during a post mission debrief, the Imperial Officer says that rebel prisoners captured during one of you ops were being taken for 'processing'==the quotation marks made it both funny and sinister.

I love it. This looks beautiful. I am going to keep an eye out for more videos. My pro-imperial ass also likes how this shows the rebellion's true colors in the first mission already: Ruthless terrorists without a hint of morals.

What I wouldn't give for a proper big budget remake of these games. I remember playing through TIE Fighter on keyboard only (didn't have a mouse yet) and I still loved every second of it

Games used to be so much better. You can take any one of these classics from the 90s and the golden age of gaming, give it a fresh coat of paint and it will absolutely demolish a modern AAA title with a budget in the millions.

I played Squadrons and enjoyed it for what it was. But being that it is the closest I've gotten to the flight-sim genre I don't have much to compare it to. I really just enjoyed the campaign (didn't really touch multiplayer) and found it funny that Squadrons had a better Empire campaign than the "Imperial perspective" campaign we were promised in Battlefront 2 from EA. Always wanted to try out the older TIE and X-Wing fighter games. But given their age I doubt they play well with modern hardware or that well on keyboard/mouse. May have to get around to giving this a shot someday.

I remember playing these when they released. Still got the original disc and cd-rom version around somewhere. Epic games that completely outclass pretty much every Star Wars game released recently.

Whoa.. The sfx and audio from the space station at 7:35 is really intense, with radio noise and sirens in the background and everything. You guys did that audio work or it's from the original reimagined release? I only ever had the original game so this is all new to me. I have to play it now.
