It's great when a corporation sends an honest speaking engineer type of guy, instead of a marketing person who watches his words to ensure he's always "selling the brand". Tadge was a great guest for this car.

Tadge is the absolute gold standard as an automotive engineer and GM should clone him asap. He’s cyborg knowledgeable and at the same time extremely personable. I think he could happily talk about this car 24/7! A great guy. 👍

innovative?!?! affordable?!?! Where do I even start?? It's not exactly innovative when you design your American car to look just like countless Italian cars that have had that same style for decades... Secondly $100,000 is not exactly "affordable" for a large majority of the population. You are talking about saving every single penny earned for 2 or more years for most people. No food, no house, no nothing... just every single paycheck straight to the bank for 2 full years and still have interest on the loans to pay off. Super affordable that. Than of course any time something breaks, which it will, the repairs will cost no less than 2-6 times more than the same issue on something like a Honda Civic...

A friend was recently looking at this car at a dealership in Souther Cal. There was a $50K premium adding to the purchase. He walked. He just bought one from a dealer in North-Central AZ with $0.00 premium. It cost him $94.5K. Good thing he didn’t have to add an extra $50K.

That's a beautiful car, and I am really impressed with designers' restraint when resisting the urge to over-engineer the body panels. This car is a wonderful example of understated class, respectful of it's heritage without cartoonish exaggerations. I love it.

Well, the math dictates they had to save costs somewhere. Not that it's a bad thing, but is an overlooked and most difficult skill in engineering. It doesn't take much talent to build performance with no budget limit. Maximizing the cost/performance ratio and choosing the best compromises and making those up elsewhere is very difficult, and Corvette has done it.

That was a fantastic video. Big Corvette fan here. I owned a C3 and a C4 when I was younger and I bought a C7 Z06 five years ago that I daily drive April through October. Not sure if I will ever upgrade to a C8 unless they offer a manual transmission at some point, but that is one amazing car. Thanks Jay and Tadge.
@flexinclouds
@flexinclouds 8 месяцев назад
Unfortunately they made it "impossible" to put a manual in the c8. They made the central tunnel boxed off at all sides. So they knowingly killed the manual permanently🤦‍♂️😠

@@flexinclouds So sad... Half the fun of driving is rowing your own gears. I will always want manual trannys in my "fun" cars. Right now that includes a C6 LT1 Camaro and a 2020 Miata. Both have fabulous 6-spd trannys. No automatic will EVER compare IMHO. 🙂

@Landcruiser150 Take a pickup truck here in sweden, the price is always a lot higher, almost 3 times higher and the insurance is so expensive that only companies use them, and the gas price is also much higher, more then double compared to the US.

It is great to hear the history of the technology and how this car got where it is today. the explanation of the two motors and the split in power from front to rear and Tadje explaining how they had to find that sweet spot between those two power delivery methods. Thre's a lot of tech talk in there but in more common sense speak and it is great to hear that.

Would you want to ever jump a small powerful duracell battery car off an old fashioned hump back bridge? Er NO! But in a 1970's mini 1000, cooper box of a 1071cc, with the info I know now. I would have paid xtrz for the complete engbox as a very rare and powerful engine and hard to find now cheaply. Done worry we survived, and the Mini, maybe damage to the exhaust. Slightly squished, and possibly two pairs of underwear, and the public house we nearly crashed into survived, and told not to say anything about it, to the parents. 😝🤣

I want an EV. I want a little pickup virtually identical to the ones I had in the 90's and 00's except with an electric drivetrain. But people willing to sign up for a lifetime of debt and paying interest would rather have luxury and performance than utility. That's why most EVs are luxury and performance cars and all automakers stopped making 90's mini trucks.
@MakoSDV
@MakoSDV 8 месяцев назад
A big factor with the smaller trucks disappearing is the 25% tariff on light trucks that comes from the Chicken Tax from the 60s that we haven't been able to get rid of...
@jnzkngs
@jnzkngs 8 месяцев назад
@@MakoSDV the whole point of the chicken tax was to give American automakers an advantage. Even with that advantage American automakers knew they can make more money selling midsize pickups with more luxury and performance to people who didn't have any money than selling utility to people and companies paying cash.

I love that the chief engineer is excited about the things this car has to offer rather than just rattling off specs as a showboat of the company. He talks as if he wants to buy one and is proud of his teams input on designing it. I’m still sad about how expensive the vette’s are now but I hope they can bring back some sort of baby i4 turbo version of this like the solstice/vue was.
