Back when I was at Bit-Tech, folks kept asking for me to release videos with only the machining sounds rather than musical montages. I really wanted to give it a try but my router was just too slow and would have been torture to watch and listen to.
However, all that has changed now! I'm hoping to release one of these recuts each time I do a machining video, that way both crowds can get to enjoy something a little different. Since I'm not cutting to music, generally these videos will be fuller too.
I'll be editing the footage for these from scratch, rather than just swapping over the volume on the existing montages. It feels like the right thing to do so that the process is done justice.
All the above footage is in real time. In the future I might consider adding a feeds and speeds tab and an additional camera so that less footage gets lost between angle changes.

And here, we hear the Datron M8 Cube sing the song of its people. A beautiful serenade that is sure to attract the females of its species. Truly marvelous.

WOW, that machine seems like a dream to me, I'm amazed by that interface! But, I really need to ask, that aluminium stock that you used when machining the first face and was hold by the vise, it wasn't squared just cut by a bandsaw? I ask because when you turned it over and used that face as a reference... I don't understand how you still manage to face the second face aligned perfectly with the first one. I'm missing something here? Damn I feel so rusty and I miss working with the CNC machines.

Love this new journey you are on and I cant wait to see what new incredible computer case mods and scratch builds you come up with! A question that I have is regarding the old casemods/scratch builds and Bit-Tech, are the builds you did during the Bit-Tech days yours personally or are they in some way the property of Bit-Tech? specially interested in the Aquaceras scratch build, what happens to that now?
@PraetexDesign
@PraetexDesign 2 года назад
Some were mine and others belong to the customers that I built them for. For instance the G.Skill rig was done for them, but part of the deal was that I can keep it after. Likewise Aquaceras was/is my personal PC, which unfortunately is also why it always got put at the back of the priority stack :/ I’m looking forward to getting stuck into a build once I’ve finished up some Pre-existing customer work. It’s a fine balance as projects don’t actually earn me anything, so I have to mix them together with commercial aspects.
@magnuspaulsson311
@magnuspaulsson311 2 года назад
@@PraetexDesign Thank you for the answers, and in response to the projects not earning you anything is totally up to how you want to view RU-vid or other video streaming service as an income. If you see that as more of an extra exposure rather then a real source of income the I totally agree that it brings no additional income, me personally would love to se more of your "build from the ground" pcs as it was the series I enjoyed most on the Bit-Tech channel, maybe it could help to showcase the parts you intend to sell? Love the content so far and I hope to see one of your great builds in the future. Need anything drawn up in SolidWorks just hit me up.
@PraetexDesign
@PraetexDesign 2 года назад
@@magnuspaulsson311 It’s fairly easy to commercialise rigs to an extent, I get a lot of requests from individuals and companies to do show pieces etc. However, the time involved is insane, and with all the new equipment etc it means the cost could become astronomical. One thing that I’m hoping to do is tie in product research into build logs. I have a lot of ideas for parts I’d love to produce, but there’s a lot of testing and prototyping that has to go into anything before it can make it to market. If I can combine some of that process with a project, it could make it more fun for both viewers and myself as well as be a nice showcase.
@magnuspaulsson311

@@PraetexDesign Sounds like you have a good grip on the situation and a clear plan, I like it! Hope it all falls in to place soon and that you can get the wheel rolling on some nice parts and builds! and thank you for the replies! Last question and sorry for the bombardment of questions, are you still using fusion 360 as the CAD software? or have you changed to be more compatible with the Datron (if that was something that was a thing) or for some logistical, mass production reason and so on, I myself spend everyday working in SolidWorks.
@PraetexDesign
@PraetexDesign 2 года назад
@@magnuspaulsson311 I’m still using Fusion, I haven’t really had the need to swap yet, potentially in the future when I have other machines with differing capabilities it might make sense to switch. If I swapped to Solidworks, it would mean also swapping to a considerably more expensive CAM solution. Interestingly enough Datron works a fair bit with Autodesk, so Fusion actually has the best compatibility with their control atm.

5:25, clever to cut these ears off at the 2nd opp. once they start resonating they'l kill/break your tool.. I'm always carefull with these flaps.. Is that clamp sturdy enough for your likings?
@PraetexDesign
@PraetexDesign 2 года назад
I’d say they’re so so. They’re good for a number of quick things, but the clamping force is nothing like a proper vice. I did have one part fly out of the jaws when I was first experimenting with cutting parameters, gave me some food for thought.
@berendlucasvanderweide
@berendlucasvanderweide 2 года назад
@@PraetexDesign I noticed some chips resonating on the fixed part that is connected to the bed, that was my concern. Once it starts resonating you'll loose grip soon. Combine that with an upwarts force of the cutter and it's game over pretty soon. I expect there is difference in stability on the moving part and the fixed part too. When running a production batch where speed and reliability are important factors, i like to work with dedicated clamps/fixtures.
@PraetexDesign
@PraetexDesign 2 года назад
@@berendlucasvanderweide 100% on the part about the production fixtures. I picked up a bunch of kit to help with that since I want to do most of the machine loading outside of the machine. On the resonance part, it may be a bit tricky to tell on this video though as I’m running the MQL system the whole time. So any chips on the clamp etc will be pushed around by the air blast. I noticed some chips by the end that move back and forth in perfect timing with the spindle movement, so that may have been the cause? There was definitely some resonance in a couple of the bigger cuts though, could hear the difference in the cut compared with other sections.
@berendlucasvanderweide
@berendlucasvanderweide 2 года назад
@@PraetexDesign @Praetex Design and due to the design of the machine, there is also difference in stability in x and y. Just use an overstep/depth that is acceptable for the weakest axis. You'll learn your machine sooner or later better than anybody else. Just keep your eyes/ears open. I don't know if you use fusion360, you can optimize your parameters and save them in a template, very convenient in my opinion. At 08:00, left lower corner on the fixed part, dancing chips on resonance. Judging the sounds that is the most aggressive cut on the video. It could be that a deeper cut makes it more silent, since a larger portion of the cutter is in touch with the material and with a single flute the non contact time interval becomes shorter. (Cutter is a spiral, that's what's causing this). In this case (dancing chips) i would tame it down. I could be wrong, but i thought Datron provides libraries for their cutters for f360, if i recall the demo I've had correctly. Perhaps you already use these. A preset isn't holy in my book. The sound a cut makes tells a lot. And cutting aggressively simple produces a lot of noise. Surface quality is a good factor too.

That’s just a safety move for the probing routine, it taps the top just to prevent crashes, the coordinates themselves were indeed based on the bottom of the vice jaws.
