I own a 2018 VStrom 650 XT, also in yellow. I love mine, took me up to the Nordkapp last year and never missed a beat. She’s definitely a keeper, I call her Waspy. This new one might be a bit too heavy for me so happy to stick with mine.
A neighbour of mine has just bought the very same bike and is well pleased with it. Some lovely villages and countryside on that run Richy mind you the weather makes it all come together. Stay safe and Regds to the crew
‘Stroms have always had a face only a mother could love, but the proboscis on this production pushes even that imperative. Aesthetics aside, as long as you’re not yearning for the love of your life, there’s something to be said for an easy rolling booty-call bike that puts out without a lot of drama.
Good video. Just bought last of old shape 1000 vstrom asked tmf his thoughts on them he said dont buy how wrong he was I expected budget bike but the brakes and engine are brilliant the fuel economy has been a real surprise 49 mpg fast riding 67 steady 50/60 on calimoto roads only one point of criticism is 19 inch front wheel slow to turn but planted at high speed. One other thing I have seen new vstrom 1000 base model in dealers for 9k that's a bargain. Looking forward to video on that😁
I’m not sure if i like the yellow because its actually nice or because it doesn’t fit the mould and it’s different 😂 I like it though 👌🏼 Looking forward to seeing the vid of you taking it out with Gaz and Egone after todays instagram posts.
Glad to see im not the only one in the world who doesn't mind this color scheme in always down for throwback looks in motorcycles cheers and thanks for the informative video good sir!
Undecided..Followed you for several years with your epic tours and local rides with massive admiration. There seems to be a shift to testing new bikes that many of us cannot stetch to (I dont blame you if you can get it), I've long since stopped buying bike mags for the same reason. I'd like to see you look more at used alternatives
Don’t mind the yellow, harks back to the 80’s. It’s the sort of Ford Mondeo of the adventure bike world, does everything adequately and in the real world how many of these actually see much off road anyway
You always give us entertainment with a difference, whether risky rides like Scotland lol or tiny dirt tracks but never expected hot air balloon!! Brilliant! Nice bike too. Bumble bee yellow 🤔🤔 it could grow on me. Cheers Ritchy mate another great vid
Got to say that your vid has completely changed my mind about the new V-Strom. I feel a local test ride coming on soon. And, I like the hi-viz yellow! PS, I remember less than a quids worth of two star and a shit of two stroke oil from the pump dispenser for my Fizzy in 1976-77
Great job Rich, i like the beat of the drum with your opening water pics all in sync, Good stuff on the production, you take it to the next level which is good, as that stands out from the others.(Just my observation LOL) Compared to the other bikes in its class, its down on power, but hey, whats the Bloody Rush . Its got all the other Bells and whistles tho so Thumbs up there. as you say its real comfy hassle free bike. Haaa love the boots, gotta be good for ya. Ok Ride safe, and say hi to Eugone, he da Man haaaa
I really like that colour, but I've got a bright orange bike so I'm maybe not the right person to judge colours. And there was 2, 3, 4, and 5 star 101 octane petrol on the garage I started my apprenticeship at when I was 16.
Hi Richie, I own a 1982 BMW r65 LS which was designed by the same guy who designed the first Katana. His surname was Muth.(forgot his first name) but anyway one can clearly see the similarities.
Richy, do you plan on taking Mrs Vida as a pillion? I'd be very interested to see her comparison to the Vstrom and the AT! I've been considering these two bikes as my next machine, especially as my wife would like to start doing some trips! Cheers bud Rob
Kinda like the yellow it's like a nod to the old RM 250 2 stroke. I think the headlight spoils its looks though it's a bit old fashioned looking. Looking forward to seeing more reviews of it.
A whiff of fish and chips, one day we'll be able to get smells through our computers, lol. Great review Richy, seems like a no nonsense good value alternative to Gs's etc!
I realised you were fairly local when I found your channel yesterday then in this one you were almost on my doorstep! The old gates you went through at 8.30, we used to bike down there on a Sunday when we were kids to open the gates for the cars. On a really good day you could almost make £1! Great looking bike, but do you think they are getting too over complicated what with hill hold and such which to me seems a bit unnecessary on a bike.
"Hideous Yellow" not so sure, on my screen your previous Blood Bike video thumbnail is alongside and it looks an identical colour, didn't hear anyone calling that hideous, good vid and I like the Stroms.
The AT is my favourite, for sure. But that’s not to say I dislike the Vstrom in any way. Keep any eye out over the next couple of vids. We just got back from a nice 400 odd mile spanking in the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. The VStrom is a VERY good machine.
Had a bostin ride up to tissington from Wolverhampton today then 5ways Buxton for lunch well all day breakfast 🤣. The colour of the vstrom is growing on me but looks good for the money
Cool thunderbird 👍🇺🇸 Iv ridden through that Ford not long ago ,great little village to ride through also , I’m sure I. Walked a Tissington trail when I was camping up there a few years ago with the wife ,an old railway line ?
Bet you had fun at that Ford! How many times did you go through it? You don’t get to go through many fords nowadays. The one in our village is only passable by a tractor.
I wear full high viz trousers and jacket, yellow trousers, orange jacket, I also have a white helmet. they still don't see me. They still pull out on me. the human brain has been hardwired to search for a box shape when looking for if the road is clear, that is assuming they bother looking at all. best thing you can have on a motorbike is a loud engine and a loud horn. cars are getting quieter.
Did the hot air ballon but take off was 5am not 5pm and yes smell of fish and chips is very tempting, oh the bike gold wheels look cool and yea yellow probably would grow on you eventually...
Yes does look and sound good. Like the yellow hopefully folk can see you more lol. Not bad price too. But yes do prefer the africa twin. But so nice to try other bikes too. Keep safe. 🙂
I've watched a shit-ton of Strom 1050 videos in prep for acquiring one myself. This one is in top 3. Would have been #1 if you were in Scotland (especially Islay) and stopped for a dram at the day's end. Sorry if you're not actually Scottish. I'm from USA and have trouble distinguishing accents...
Haha no, I’m definitely not Scottish. Not that I have anything at all against Scotland or it’s wonderful people, you understand! I’m from the centre of England - literally! Glad you like the vid, and good luck with the bike. They’re fantastic machines.
I just bought one of the outgoing v strom 1000xt. I would have bought the new 1050, despite the only real benefit over the old model is cruise control, but I think it's really ugly. I really like the look of the last v strom and it had some really nice colour schemes, but the new xt only comes in that horrid yellow and the red and white.
Just watched this with my wife and daughter in the room and as soon as you said "Ooo I've just had a whiff of fish and chips" they both said they wanted some. At 11 o'clock in the morning 🤣 As always a good wee video however be good to hear what you thought of the bike, handling etc.
Have a question regarding your riding jeans. What brand are they? If you ever get an opportunity to ride a Honda CB1100RS I'd like to see it. If Honda were to bring it to the states I would definitely be tempted.
I’d love to! My jeans are Furygan Steed. Best I’ve had. Slim fit, dead comfy, D30 protection and good enough to go to the pub in at the end of a long days ride. Spot on 👍
Calimoto has taken me to that same Ford after crossing the a515 at the entrance to tissinington. Came across the fields! Be good see a comparison to the Africa twin! 👍
Hi. I take it that the furygan atom jacket? Whats it like for protection. I'm looking for a jacket for Europe next year so I'm after a jacket with good protection but cool in the hot weather.
I currently have an 06 strom, but honeslty i feel like suzuki has been letting the stroms popularity get to them. Honestly in 2018 they jumped the price about 2k... for that money they think they are competing with ktm, triumph, and bmw, but the other companies are offering more horsepower, accessories(skid plate, crash bars, ect), and value. Honestly the ktm 790 costs less and has just 10hp less but more extras that the zuki would have a hard time getting on the same level for little money. I wanna love the new strom but suzukis cost just doesnt seem worth it as the budget bike thats capable anymore.
Richly it’s getting to be a bit like any one else’s videos you need to think of something different to do. Maybe go and do a motorbike wild camp just an idea what do you think
Vstrom is a really great bike. No question about that. You can chomp miles and ride with the wind in your sail no problem at all. I just like fancy, and so it’s the AT for me.
Remember 2 star... PAHHH...! I remember 2star, 3 star, 4 star AND 5 STAR...! that was full fat leaded at 101 octane. Also back then 3 star was 38p a GALLON..! Yep I'm that old...😁
They tell me that Suzuki is strapped for R & D funds, so very little is new. Rolex get away with proven designs, so why not Suzuki. There is something refreshing about not being immersed in a load of bleeding edge technology for technology's sake. I think the value for money, make this bike worth a look.
RichyVida thank you for taking the time to reply. True, ones an Adventure Tourer and the other a Sports Tourer, but both are tourers... Anyway,, I was just wondering if you’d had the chance to ride the Ninja, as I couldn’t see a review on your channel. And as a VFR-man, what would be your preference between the two for 70% solo city commuting and 30% two-up touring. Cheers!
Luv the vlog but the bike o no it will do attitude and it's ok does not match up to other bikes it's at the bottom of the barrel Suzuki needs to put some effort in
@@RichyVida Hi Richy, Looks a nice bike. Unfortunately I'm 27" inside leg :( Lowered my Bandit 650 by an inch and that's just right. One of my pet peevs is the way manufacturers make seats these days with that massive kick up towards the rear.
