Mos def start another journey. Deftones has one of the deepest catalogs out there. Kept evolving over time, and were ahead of theirs. Hearts/Wires is one nobody has done and is groundbreaking. Hard to go wrong with any of the bigger songs off White Pony or Koi No Yokan, i.e.: Rosemary, Digital Bath, Change, Knife Party, or Leathers.

Deftones do like a heavy version of dream pop/trip hop. It's a really cool blend. And you can probably tell that the drummer is very influenced by hip hop and the singer is very influenced by R&B.

I would agree with this just 1 little add on Chino (singer) has said his main influences have come from The Cure, DePeche Mode, Ice Cube and other late 80s early 90s west coast hip hop like Westside Connection but yea his infuences include a wide range as you can tell in his lyrics & voice/sing style

You MUST do "My Own Summer," "Digital Bath," and "Change (In the House of Flies)" -- these are pinnacle Deftones songs man.... Great stuff and keep it UPPP!!! The Tool (my favorite band) vids are AMAZING!! Hope you'll be able to do Lipian Conjuring/Lost Keyes (Blame Hoffmann)/Rosetta Stoned soon -- a MARATHON that will you leave you TRIPPIN!!!

This isn't necessarily a knock on Chino, but man when Maynard comes in the vocal quality goes through the roof! There is no better vocalists than MJK.

The fact that Maynard appears on this track should give credibility to the Deftones for those that haven't heard them before. They are def one of my top fave bands for sure. Please do more Deftones reactions. These guys are very different compared to Tool...very atmospheric and heavy and from California like me ;) Check out You've Seen the Butcher. That riff...whew!

If you love Maynard, I’d recommend you check out his other bands, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Two great songs by A Perfect Circle are Judith and The Outsider And a good song to get into Puscifer would be The Mission (M is for Milla Mix) is features Milla Jovovich from the Resident Evil movies

hahahah... the early deftones crowd.... yes.... lots of good songs, but the band did change over time and the early stuff is very clearly a separate set of music from the later stuff love the early stuff.... first album was amazing

Entombed is my favorite by Deftones. I just love the mood the song has. I feel like Deftones has that very distinct sound that a lot of bands try to emulate. Cherry Waves, 976-EVIL, Sextape are some of my other favorites.

Great intro to Deftones! People have made some serious babys to that song lol! "You've seen the Butcher" is a proper hard hitting deftones track with one of their best videos. If you ever get around to it, they also did a cover song "Sinatra" that kicks ass!

they have 2 sounds theyre first 2 albums were heavy and mixed with some rap flow and aggressive screaming. everything after white pony ( theyre 3rd and most popular album) is more atmospheric sounding but still heavy at times. digital bath and knife party are epic

If you are coming into rock and metal from a hip hop background....you are going to LOVE Deftones...you can't go wrong with them...they are equally masterful, just...a different sound/feel from tool...but they go together extremely well. Hope you do more Deftones soon! Around the Fur...Adrenaline, White Pony, Diamond Eyes...all of these are fantastic albums to pick from.

You have to listen to A Perfect Circle next. Need to start with Judith and listen with lyrics. Powerful stuff about MJK mother. After Judith listen to Tool Jimmy, The Grudge than wings for Mary 1 & 2. They are all about his mum and are all powerful.

Yo Drew! Great choice to get started with Deftones - they kinda have that transcendant Tool vibe on this song which is why Maynard sounds so good on it. Deftones do LOADS more than what this song suggests though - if I’d had to sum them up in a sentance I’d say their speciality is to make metal sound eye-wateringly heavy and yet beautiful at the same time. For a few suggestions to get started try Diamond Eyes, Be Quiet and Drive, Swerve City, Doomed User, Rosemary or Headup, those are all personal favs of mine.

maynard has another band, puscifer. if you appreciate tool's ability to push the boundaries and innovate, you gotta check out puscifer. pretty much anything from the album V is for Vagina is a good choice
