Finally someone who gets Elvis from a technical standpoint. Everybody and they Mamas are all about the lyrics, etc. You break it down like I do from the other side...the different techniques. Nobody gets it when I say I'm listening for the timing, the sound, the delivery...to me lyrics come last. It's all about the arrangement and the performance. PEACE #JustSub'd

I do that, I rarely listen to the lyrics at first. My Husband was a professional musician, he taught me to break every sound down, the timing, all of that. Like you, lyrics come last for me. Personally, I listen to the drums and Bass, my hubby played Bass and drums! That is where the timing is critical.

Elvis was an emotional singer. He was all in. In his relatively short life he recorded over 850 songs covering all genres of music , so you have only just begun.
@christineokosun
@christineokosun 3 года назад
His life was short and yet he was able to achieve what sooo many struggle to achieve these days by hook, crook, gimmicks, Soul trading and all sorts. Some that were his peers and are still alive today, haven't achieved what the great Elvis achieved in his short life!!! The lesson here for me on this is to know my purpose and walk boldly in it!!!! The scary part, when I think of Elvis, his generosity, life, music and all, is I often wondered how he managed being humble with that superhuman gift and fame!!!! Perhaps if he had lived longer, he would have messed up BADLY. Just my thoughts.

@@christineokosun In 1974 Elvis and Led Zeppelin (a big time band not really of Elvis style for sure) found themselves in Los Angeles at the same time. So Led Zeppelin minus Bonham bought tickets and went to see Elvis perform The concert was recorded and in the background you can hear Elvis saying "Led Zeppelin is in teh audience, we have to at least look like we know what we are doing" and at another time "Led Zeppelin is here so we had better get this right" Here Elvis Presley is trying to impress Led Zeppelin.

The thing about Elvis is that he never tried to sound black, he just grew up around black gospel and rhythm and blues (and country) and soaked it in almost by osmosis. In my opinion that is why he sounds authentic when signing blues standards like Reconsider baby or Stranger in my own hometown.

You have discovered Elvis in the early 1970s. The amazing thing about him is that there are many versions of him. There is the 1950s Elvis. There is the 60s Elvis and there is the 1970s Elvis. All are vastly different and yet all are incredible because Real talent always shines through. Thanks again for your intelligent and insightful reaction video. Keep those Elvis videos coming. The “if I can dream“ video in his white suit from the 1968 come back special is extremely popular and shows Elvis In a new dimension where he tears the barriers down to race.

His movements would never planned his body moved the way the music moved Him. That's what got him in trouble when he first started the music would move head to shake his legs and swivel hips hips people of that era called him vulgar they did not know what to make of him they did not understand that it was the music that was moving in but now we do he was pure

He was able to blend all of his different musical inspirations into 1 distinct style of his own. He wasn't purely any one style. When he did country you could hear the soul and the rock n roll. When he did ballads you could hear a real edge that had soul. He brought a little of everything to each song and style he performed.

I celebrate our differences too because without differences we would be on a boring planet. Music would be all the same and we'd all look the same. Elvis is in my opinion the best singer performer ever. He sang rock, blues, rythm and blues, country, rockabilly, and gospel. There is no genre of music he couldn't sing. Also he's just so beautiful to look at helps. I'd request American Trilogy to hear some powerful vocals. His gospel is heaven sent.

Apt!!! It would be very boring if we were all the same. Even the teeth in our mouths are different in size and density...made that way because collectively, it serves an harmonious function at the end. Count them.He had 50 different singing voices.He sang every note on the musical scale.He had perfect pitch.His groans grunts moans were to die for.His whistling and yodeling were beautiful.He had super breath control He danced, sang, and played the guitar simultaneously.He could mimic the voices such as Johnny Cash and sing just like him and many others.He could hear a sonh o mnce and sing and play it.He played several instruments.He knew over 800 of his sings and just about everybody elses. He was the highest paid actor in Hollywood.Presidents would see him on a moments notice.Queens and princesses would visit him.He was double jointed and could turn his bidy into a pretzel.He popularized rock and roll to the masses and made it possible for black singers to become popular.He encouraged them and went out of his way to support their music .He was highly intellegent, constantly re,ading and had a photographic memory.He was a child prodigy singing at age two.Every woman wanted to sleep with him.He was basically self taught on piano and guitar, etc. He did not read music but had an impeccable ear.His voice was so strong and had so much range that opera singers recognized that he had more ability than they.His goal in life was to make people happy, giving his wealth to do so, and lead them to Jesus thriugh his music.He was very spiritual.Best looking and sexiest man to ever live. The most talented performer that ever was.He is unbeatable for all times.ever .Also served in the military..a man's man. Every person who met him loved him and said he was the most wonderful , charismatic person they ever met.You could feel his presence before he entered a room. He was knowledgeable on very deep subjects and could talk about anything.His standard of living improved when he moved to the getto at age 13 .Then his family had plumbing indoor.His father was a sharecropper.True rags to riches within two years of coming to the music scene.I could go on and on.Nobody ever like him.Not ever.

I00% agree! I keep suggesting that to people that are just now discovering and reacting to the '68- Vegas Elvis videos (because they are visually impactful), that they need to start at the beginning Elvis. Some don't seems to realize that by the time they get to the Vegas years, they've missed almost 2 decades of Elvis. I feel strongly that new fans need to start studying him from the early years to hear the growth of his voice to full maturity (and recording quality). I listen daily to Elvis radio on Sirius and it so nice just to listen to the vocal quality without the distraction of the video & his good looks. I've been listening to Elvis for 60+ yrs and there's always something new to discover within his "instrument"....it NEVER gets old!

Elvis was drawn to black gospel, blues, jazz, as a young man, and was very much at home in black church and Beale Street in Memphis, the blues, jazz, rockabilly, all this sound vocally, and through the soundscape, was as natural to him as breathing. He wasnt crossing over, this sound was always his, listen to his early Tutti Frutti(Little Richard), Hound Dog(compare to Big Mama Thornton), King Creole( released in 1958) even Thats All right Mama( compare to Arthur Crudup) and Chuck Berry's Maybelline. I think he'd take it as an awesome compliment to be considered to have a black sound.

Another version of this song was done in 1980 by another blue-eyed soul duo - Daryl Hall and John Oates if you want to look it up. They keep the soul in it but add a bit of rock too. They had many hits between 1973-the 90's and still tour together or apart or have been on Daryl's award winning online streaming show, Live From Daryl's House. Definitely something to look into. Even reruns are great. You can find them on RU-vid. My mom taught me about Elvis I believe when I was 5 when bought me his Gold Records album and his Christmas album. I listened to it over and over. She had been around during the time he became famous and told me about how he couldn't be shown from the waist down on 50's tv because of decency regulations. I even watched his movies. After he died, I was 7, she bought special edition double records with his life story and rare pictures and rare recordings in the collections. He was amazing even to a little girl from the East Bay Area in California.

Although this is a fantastic performance, this wouldn't have been my first choice to start listening to Elvis....you've missed almost 2 decades of Elvis music before the 70's. I think it's fun to start at the beginning to hear the growth & power in his voice....and of course, better recording equipment. But so happy to hear your reaction and knowledgeable input. Although it's a better reaction video with Elvis on screen, I strongly urge you to listen to recordings without Elvis's handsomness being a distraction. I strongly urge you to listen to the Elvis channel (Ch. 75 in U.S.) on Sirius radio....It's Elvis music 24/7. They also tell great stories about Elvis there. You can really get more into his vocal quality by just listening on the radio.

Enjoy him as I did, he was his music no matter what genre he went to, he was always grateful he could bring it to all fans and no matter how much anyone tried to stop him, he gave s thanks to GOD that he was spared at birth to be able to share it with the world and now almost 50 years later I can relive that time, I have him again for awhile and I can watch all of you bringing him and his music, which is one, watching him give his all to fans around the world and giving thanks to his God every time.

Elvis Presley was 100% entertained by rhythm and blues singers of African descent! The 1st song that he saying in Sun records at the age of 18 before he was discovered was a rhythm and blue song written by people of colour. It was titled that's all right mama... His family lived in the same community. And he used to watch your Uncle's fingerpop and clap while singing rhythm and blues on their porch...

That's what people thought in 1954!!! His mother was currently working in a sandwich shop. The radio was on and a co-worker was shocked when his mom said "that's my son!" The other lady, who was black, said "that can't be your son; he's black." His mother said "no he's not, and that's my son." LOL Back then, he was a teenager, so his voice was a lot higher. But that you heard it when he was 35 . . . amazing! He grew up in black neighborhoods, and attended both white and black churches and all-night sings. It's terrible to be poor, but he got one thing from being poor. His music, especially gospel and spirituals.

Christine; you're so genuine (Praise the Lord) just like Elvis...When you get into a little more in debt with the King's music; you'll realize how he (genuine) could and did TEASED his audience (especially the ladies) slowing down the song or speeding up, holding back the lyrics (standing still and just waiting with a smile), shaking the voice (up or down)...That's only with his voice; but then he'll play with his body (the legs, hips, lips, any part), when he hears all the screaming; just check out the smile or grin on his face 😀

So interesting to hear you say his voice sounds black. That was, after all, his essence in the beginning - his first record company owner (Sam Phillips) looking for a white boy that sounded black... the crossing or racial barriers because early radio listeners thought he was black, etc. And it has become the legend of the birth of rock n roll. White or black, we all agree on one thing - he sounds goooood!

Apprently, he was big before my generation. I had to do a mini survey across various age groups and discovered that most senior citizens knew him in my country for instance and at one time, the men dressed like him which I found hilarious considering the obvious different hair textures for one. From the late 70's, his popularity was already declining and some some have never heard of him. Children born form the 80's to 2000's that knew him as a singer other than a familiar face that is being depicted in cartoons for instance, were children whose parents exposed his music to.
