Randy Bachman wrote this song about Burton Cummings after they split up from the Guess Who. Fortunately they have made up over the years and toured together again, they both belong in the RRHOF
..."Class of 76"...Many bands have great songs BUT...grab a BTO album, 8-track, cassette or CD and it rocks through the whole list of songs...One of my top 5 all time favorite bands...Thanks for playing them again!
@@screwyou341 Yeah, four decades ago. I had an Audiovox under-the-dash 8-track player in my '70 Beetle which came with a pair of crappy 4" coaxial speakers with paper woofers.....such high-fidelity...LOL!
Randy Bachman was originally with The Guess Who. They also have: Roll On Down The Highway Not Fragile Sledgehammer Rock Is My Life, And This Is My Song
I wish I could find Randy's story behind this song. I believe Gordon wanted to leave Guess Who because they were too straight arrow. This song was kinda a see ? I told ya to Gordon Cummings
@@bloppysloppy4057 Wow, didn't here that one. Randy was the oldest of those three. He must be devastated to have lost two younger brothers 4 month apart.
Excellent…..BTO’s biggest song - that to this day would get people up out of their chairs dancing around the Globe - is Takin’ Care of Business … You must hit that one someday
"Not Fragile" and "Four Wheel Drive" are a couple BTO rockers I recommend. If you haven't done "Takin' Care of Business" "Roll on Down The Highway" and "Gimme Your Money Please" you should do those next.
Another Canadina group that still awaits your ears: Lighthouse. THey had a few hits like "One Fine Morning," "Pretty Lady" and others. Amber should be especially interested because HORNS were a key part of their music.
If you like "Hey You" then you'll love "Let It Ride". BTO was actually originally known as Brave Belt which formed after Randy Bachman left The Guess Who. They started out as country rock but evolved to a harder rock style for which BTO would become famous. My favorite Brave Belt song is "Summer Soldier"
Bachman used to play guitar in The Guess Who, he left and started his own band…Bachman, Turner, Overdrive. He stutters in his song “ Ain’t Got Nothing Yet. “ 👏👏👏 🩵🩵
This is Randy Bachman's middle finger to Burton Cummings. They have had a volatile relationship over the years to say the very least. Hate, make up and work together, hate again, make up.... When they perform together, Burton introduces this as" the song Randy wrote when he hated me" Check out Lookin' Out For Number One.
Oh kids, this is no where near the "Hardest" BTO, but really one of their Pop/Rock numbers. Top 5 Heaviest Rockers would be 1) Not Fragile, 2) Sledgehammer, 3) Four Wheel Drive, 4) Second Hand (more cowbell lol, 5) Don't Get Yourself In Trouble. Many more and on some days the bottom couple could be replaced by others so, everyone has their favorites right.
Let it Ride! There is another band, "Nantucket", who put out some great music about this same time. They are hard to pigeon hole, but a little BTO, a bit of 38 Special, a smidgen of REO Speedwagon & sprinkling of Mountain. Their biggest hit was "Heartbreaker"! Followed by "Gimme your Love", "Tennessee Whiskey ", "She's no Good", and "Girl you Blew a Good Thing".
Best memory of this song on a beach on long island sound where I lived and dancing in the sand. Freaking amazing, wonderful memory. Flash back from way back. Thank you. Thank you. WOW!Sand on the feet is a memory in itself.
For the heavy side of them listen to Not Fragile, Sledgehammer, Second Hand of Four Wheel Drive. The song Hey You came out in 1975 on the Four Wheel Drive album. I love the fact you dig this fantastic band. The leader is Randy Bachman fron The Guess Who. This album was their fourth one
This is my Favorite BTO song. The Cord progression is HOT 🔥🔥 It was written by Randy Bachman ABOUT his Guess Who mate Burton Cummings BECAUSE They started having disputes on the direction of the Band/Songs/Writing. THANK YOU for doing this one !
Blown, Giving it all away, Stonegates, Don't let the blues get you down, Gimme your money please, Sledgehammer, Free wheelin', Quick change artist, Blue moanin', can't go wrong with any of these!!!
The drummer is the singer's brother. BTO has two Bachmans and one Turner. I checked, and there's three Bachmans. I thought there was just two. Poor Fred😁
There was a public campaign to name a construction project in BTO's native Winnepeg "Bachman-Turner Overpass." 😂 I love "Takin' Care of Business," "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet," and others whose names dont come to mind.
Three of there heaviest rockers ( all from the same "Four Wheel Drive" album) check out 1. Four Wheel Drive 2. Flat Broke Love 3. Don't Let the Blue Get You Down
*Funny Randy Bachman* story - Randy called into our Vancouver Rock Radio Station but was put on-hold for over 25 minutes. The 20 year-old receptionist had no idea who *BTO or The Guess Who* were.
"Not Fragile" was a great album, too. I still have my ticket stub for their concert in Omaha in 74(?), Styx was the warm-up band. WHAT A SHOW! Styx did 'Lady' and 'Lorelei'.
BTO, like many bands had their own signature sound but finding something that was out of their usual was hard to find. "Stone Gates" is one of those tunes.
Just been learning about this band, from the professor of music on RU-vid. He gives the stories behind the songs, and this band is great, and rad. Good driving music, yes they used the cow bell a lot through the 70's! A lot! 😂
That wasn't actually an acoustic guitar. It was an electric guitar (probably a Fender) with either a phase shifter or flanger effect on it. That's what gives it that sweeping sound.
Jay & Amber Both of you already reacted Randy Bachman of BTO. Randy started in another Canadian Band called The Guess Who before he left to formed BTO with his late brothers: Robbie and Tim Bachman with Fred Turner.
For Randy Baughman fans listen to "Sweet Lu-luise" from Ironhorse which was Randy's next band. It was a minor hit and riffs on the stuttering of "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet".
This sounds like an inverted version of Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet. I had to go listen to their reaction of that after hearing this. Was fun to play these 2 back to back.
I doubt many other people will agree, but one of my favorite BTO songs has always been, "Give me your money, Please." It's a fun song that I love popping up every so often.
In school I got "The Best of BTO" album as a prize for selling magazine subscriptions. This is a great song, but I hope you try "Takin' Care of Business." You'll love the great piano.
The song starts out sounding like Chicago's "Beginnings", then when the lyrics begin it sounds like BTO's "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet", then it goes on to become its own song.
For some reason, the first BTO album tends to get overlooked. If you haven't already done so, please check out GIMME YOUR MONEY PLEASE, BLUE COLLAR, STAYED AWAKE ALL NIGHT and DON'T GET YOURSELF IN TROUBLE.
Hey btw, BTO's song Hey You, was actually an earlier hit by them late 1974 circa, I don't believe it was their biggest hit-but I know I remember it, actually when it came out I was, get this, in junior high like 7th grade, this song reminded for some reason Marcia Brady on the Brady Bunch!
This is why I love watching you guys! You go back to the mid 70’s, when I was a high schooler, and listen to songs I haven’t heard in nearly 50 years! You guys really give me a smile and evoke some good memories and good times!! 😉
So many good BTO songs. "Let It Ride" and "Takin Care of Business" are classics. "Second Hand" is a real rocker - check out the guitar riff in that one!
