I'm very glad to see people "expanding their horizons". Being a south Texas dude, I know the rep that country music has with most black people. It's not considered "cool". But, a lot of that has changed dramatically. I saw your reactions to the Bee Gees, too. Again, so many black reactors are shocked that the Bee Gees were "white", or not knowing any of their music. I busted out of my "mold" long ago, and listen to all types/kinds of music. Glad to see you breaking out of your mold!

I'm not big on country music but I make an exception for Chris. I don't even really see him as country. Country bores me to tears. I have a few exceptions Chris Stapleton, Garth Brooks and Toby Keith. They are entertainers not just country music stars

This whole gig at Austin City Limits is excellent tbh- definitely check out the performance of "I Was Wrong" from the same set, the 2min improvised jam at the end with Chris standing proud with his all-feel, less-is-more, guitar playing is great fun! Edit : This got a little bit long, but it's got some Black Music History in it for y'all... I think y'all probably don't know it ... Country music is Soul, Gospel, even old Negro Spirituals, Bluegrass, Americana, Folk, a lot of it from Scotland, but even from Ireland, they do a lot of high-pitched vocalizations or ''runs'' as you say, and then too, from England and other European countries was brought the tradition of the troubadour, we still have musicians traveling all around the country and the World At Large...oh! ... and don't forget, County's got a lotta Blues too, man. And rhythm. Rhythm & Blues. White folks' country version was called Rockabilly [rock 'n hillbilly music] for a time. Think: Elvis , Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry... who were influenced very heavily by SISTER ROSETTA THARPE. What we call "Country" Is about singing out your soul's woe's, and about your rejoicing in Hope, that things will get better. That's universal. Reverend Al Green said it best, when he said music is the history of love. Didja know, the banjo used in country, Americana, folk & bluegrass music is based off of an old African instrument? White boys didn't invent that! I'm pretty sure the Italians invented the mandolin, though, but don't quote me on that. Country ain't White, it's just marketed to Whites - for 100 years now. Yep, since about the 1920's. By the way, those runs, those vocalizations, are from black Spirituals [ it has been said that that style was adopted from the Irish who are known for it ] more modernized gospel songs - some originals and some reimagined and restylized old stiff Puritan ones - are from Black churches. You know Elvis went to black churches and sang with black choirs don't you? He lived very close to the same neighborhood. You need to learn your music history, if you don't. There was even a time he refused to play in a sold-out Texas Arena if he couldn't have his three black backup singers, his girls, they didn't want them to come, he said I want them to come, why can't they come, if they don't come I don't come. They came! and he drove them proudly and deliberately around the inside of the stadium, around the stage, sitting proudly up above the back seat of a white Cadillac convertible. He love him some Cadillacs! Way back in the '50s Dolly Parton wouldn't sing cuz they were trying to exclude her black guitarist, they were trying to place somebody else in there - she wouldn't have it. She let them know that her voice just wasn't going to work if that happened. She basically let them know that ''if you don't want him, you don't want me". He needs to be here just as much as I do. Her attitude was "who are they to say who can be here and who can't, anyway?" Do you know Ray Charles took a heck of a lot of trouble and got banned in a lot of places cuz he put a gospel sound in his music? oh yeah. Lotta peeps wouldn't buy his records. He played on. He addressed the crowd and pretty much let him know if you don't like it you can leave -- and some did. He pretty much said God made music, God gave the gift of music, the Bible even says make a joyful noise, so why can't we sing like we're playing in an angel choir [ or something to that effect]. They thought it especially bad if the lyrics weren't quite holy, don'tcha know.... Have you ever heard of the Godmother of Rock and Roll? Sister Rosetta Tharpe you better look her up if you don't know, and I'm a warn you now your mind 'bout to get blown when you look up her videos there's a documentary about the Godmother of rock and roll it has the most footage but it doesn't have all of it you'll have a hard time finding it because it was back in late '40s, early '50s and it wasn't that easy to film, it was too expensive. Anyway, Chuck Berry's sound is very familiar to hers, Carl Perkins, Elvis, lots of people idolized her and studied Her Style -- pretty much everyone ever wanted to play guitar, pretty much learned it from her. "Her guitar was Steel and it was BIG, and it was loud" said a Pianist in a film who introduced her and played with her in a video I saw. Do you know where the term came from and do you know what it means? Do you know what Chuck Berry's song Reelin', Rockin' and Rollin' means? It's the same long-used Black reference to what is done in a bed. Rock 'n' Roll is merely Rhythm and Blues renamed to market it to white people back in the '50s.
