The humor in this song is a perfect indication of Jerry's personality, as was his character in Smokey and the Bandit. And yes, he was known as a top notch guitar player. I think there's one video with him, Glen Campbell and Roy Clark together. That's 3 of the greatest players ever.

Jerry Reed was a singer, songwriter, guitarist & actor who appeared in more than a dozen films. His most famous was in "Smokey & The Bandit" in 1977. He also sang the theme song from that movie "East Bound & Down". He had a lot of hit songs such as "Guitar Man", "U.S. Male", "A Thing Called Love", "Alabama Wild Man", "When You're Hot, You're Hot", "Ko-Ko Joe", "Lord, Mr. Ford", "The Bird", "She Got The Goldmine (I Got The Shaft)" etc.

I loved Jerry Reed! He was such an incredible, talented performer - there was nothing he couldn't do, and an appearance of his was always fun. You can't go wrong with any of his songs, but some favorites are "When You're Hot You're Hot" and "She Got The Goldmine, I Got The Shaft".

One of my favorites by Jerry! A similar swamp song that's just as good is The Legend of Wooley Swamp, by the great Charlie Daniels... although the storyline is much darker!

OMG You have blessed me with so much joy playing and reacting to this song! Probably have not heard it in 30 years! I was all of 12 when it hit the charts and everybody loved it! The music is virtually impossible to sit still to when you’re listening to it. It just can’t be done! Jerry Reed is a great guitarist and a master storyteller. Please, check out his story about the time he rode in US Air Force F16 fighter jet. It’s a bit lengthy at approximately 17 minutes but, well worth the time. I will almost guarantee your sides will be hurting from laughing so hard. Y’all have a great day. Jerry Reed is one of my Favorite singers, so glad I saw this. You gotta check out his songs, "Today Is Mine", "Remembering", "You'd Better Take Time", "A Thing Called Love", "Ko-Ko Joe", "Alabama Wild Man", "Another Puff", I could go on forever, Jerry's whole catalog is a favorite for me. My folks can attest to that. One of the best singers, songwriters, and of course guitarists ever.

Jerry is a must see live. His hilarious, care-free way is infectious, but, Jerry was also a Master Guitarist! His storytelling and personality is what you typically get from us Cajuns!

Son! The Alabama Wildman. When Elvis recorded Jerry Reed's "Guitar Man" in 1968 he was dissatisfied with the guitar work he was getting during the session. Elvis said "I want it to sound like Jerry Reed's version", and someone told him "If you want it to sound like Jerry Reed you gotta get Jerry Reed, cause no one else plays like that". So Elvis dispatched his people to find Jerry Reed and bring him in to play on the session. They found Jerry in a bass boat in the middle of an Alabama lake 😅.

Jerry wrote Elvis's hit, "Guitar Man. " Elvis couldn't find anyone to play the guitar sound that he wanted. He ended up getting Jerry Reed. You should listen to the story that Jerry told about meeting Elvis. It's hilarious!

Any and all the suggestions for more Jerry are worth checking out. My favorite of his is "East Bound and Down", which I know you've already heard. Anything Jerry does is gold - and his sense of humor is fantastic! Not ashamed to admit I cried like a toddler whose dog stole their ice cream cone when he died. Ah, but his talent and laugh will stay in my memories forever. Thanks for bringing him back, much appreciated!
