Even from their early videos, when they were young kids....KIDS!!!...you could see the talent and they have gotten much better. Covers or original, they do a great job. Melody Cristea the singer learned her style from studying Mr Dio himself, so it's something special when they cover Dio. Liliac is a band made up of Brothers and sisters 13-22 yrs of age. Liliac is Romainian for bat. Their father was born in Transylvania of all places. Very talented family. as an FYI, this band is completely independant. They have 2 cds of covers and 2 cds of original songs.. Great job! Loved it! Liliac is a family band. The band's name means "bat" in Romanian, which is where their parents are from. The kids were born in America, and are originally from Los Angeles but now are located out of Georgia. The have previously done more covers than originals, but have some excellent originals, and I expect they'll be doing more originals as they progress. They have great covers of Symphony of Destruction and Somebody to Love; a good live song is an original song Mars; and another good original is Nothing.

Ronnie James Dio was Melody's singing inspiration. When they lived in CA still, they went to his grave. Wendy Dio has posted their Holy Diver cover a long time ago on the RJD Facebook page. She assigned them this song. Vinny Appice is often called "Uncle Vinny" by the kids. They have gotten all kinds of recognition by other artists. MAB, Alice Cooper and waaaaaaaaaaaaay back to the busking on the pier days, Stewart Copeland of the Police. Johnny Coffin started sponsoring then as well. If you haven't heard of this family before this, you are late going down the Liliac rabbit hole. My 28 year old dragged me down it sometime last year.

This was done for Dio Tribute concert, requested specifically by Wendy Dio for them to do this. They had a week to get the song down and video made. Saw it live when they did the first time on 7/10 in Vineland. Melody has played with Vinnie from Dio's band. He has nicknamed her Melodio. Dio just happens to be Melody's (the vocalist) hero influence. So her voice has been characterized as a cross between Ronnie and a mix of Joan Jett and Janis Joplin. She actually does a mean James Hetfield too. Yeah, you read that right. Check out their Master of Puppets and Enter Sandman covers.

The name Liliac is Romanian for Bat. Their parents are Romanian. The father grew up around Dracula's castle in Transylvania. About 6 or 7 years ago, their father was playing a lot of Dio around the house and in their vehicle, and Melody fell in love with his voice, and shortly thereafter, they changed the direction of the band, from pop music to Rock and Metal as well as the name of the band from The Cristeas to Liliac after asking their father what the Romanian word for Bat was.. They have dubbed their style of music, "Vamp Metal" based on their stage costuming. Think Underworld Vampire dregs... They produce all of the music and videos themselves. The father films them, the mother handles the merch, and Sam (the guitarist) does most of the video editing. Melody used to play bass, and she writes a lot of the bass lines for the songs for Ethan to play. She also is an artist and designs their album cover art. The father was a sound engineer and band manager in Romania. All of their OFFICIAL videos have awesome sound quality. He knows how to mix this stuff. The bass lines are always very strong and crunchy. The Keyboards come thru when need be, but they can be heard most of the time in lesser parts.
