After the tragedy that happened to the studio, I was surprised we got a second season, let alone having it so well animated too.

Some of the animation they used in the second season is actually based on the storyboards made by Yasuhiro Takemoto, who is credited as the "Series Director". He unfortunately passed away in the Arson that happened. He was also the Director of Season 1 of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2 and the Movie, and Full Metal Panic Fumofuu and Full Metal Panic The Second Raid. He was also responsible for Key Animation, Storyboards, and Episode Director duties on many other anime, including K-ON!, Clannad, Sound Euphonium, Lucky Star, Nichijou, and Violet Evergarden, to name a few. Some of my favorite Anime passed through his hands.

It was one of the first anime they released after the Arson, and showed that even through the loss of life and progress, that they had the strength and ability to push through and still release amazing works. They're one of my most respected animation studios for a reason!

To answer some of your questions: Yes, its safe for work. It's cheeky but wholesome. Yes, it's more of a bubbly happy slice of life series. And yes, it's definatly worth a watch. And finally, yes the cast sings the ED's of this show

Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is a super bouncy and lighthearted slice of life anime that revolves around Kobayashi, a human, and Tooru, a dragon that decided to be her maid. It has a lot of comedy and wholesome moments, but also sometimes whips out absolutely stellar action for no reason. Some of the coolest anime fights I've ever seen came from this show. I highly recommend it. It's a lot more SFW than Konosuba, so if that was fine this definitely would be.

You pretty much get exactly what it says on the tin. The main character is Miss Kobayashi, and it's about her life and shenanigans with her Maid, who's a Dragon, and their friends and acquaintances. Edit: The first ending is indeed sung by the cast. I'm not sure about the 2nd one, but probably! This actually isn't super uncommon in anime. Quite a few anime have their casts also sing the Openings or Endings. It's not quite as common as it used to be, but these trends always go in waves.

Welcome to the world of "Slice of Life" anime. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid leans more toward the Comedy side of Slice of Life, but still has strong Slice of Life elements. The general point behind the Slice of Life genre is to either portray normal people doing normal things or (for comedy) take otherwise fantastical people and portray them doing normal things (in this case: "what if a fearsome dragon decided to become a generic office worker's live-in maid?" There are many sub-genres to the Slice of Life genre, including but not limited to: "Cute Girls Doing Cute Things" (exactly what it says on the tin), "Adults in Interesting Jobs Do Their Interesting Jobs Well" (e.g. the production assistant for a small anime studio, or a museum curator, or a train engineer, etc.), Iyashikei "Healing Anime" (anime intended to "soothe" working adult viewers, often featuring optimistic portrayals of family or working adult life), Cooking anime (less like Shokugeki no Soma and more like Sweetness and Lightning), etc. The average anime fan when nothing exciting happens in an episode: "This was bull$#!*. What a waste of an episode!" The average Slice of Life fan when nothing exciting happens in an episode: "This was great. What a wonderful episode!"

@@Kaylakaze or a mix of almost all of them with that Senko-San anime. It's a cute girl doing a cute thing well, which happens to be her interesting job, which is taking care of an office worker, because she's a Fox God, all wrapped in a nice Iyashikei style wrapper.

@@mrmxypltk Iyashikei is the core of Senko-san, not the wrapper. The manga was created when Rimukoro-sensei went "man, I'm miserable, I wish I had a no jya lolibaba kitsune to take care of me... WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE'S NO SERIES LIKE THAT?! I'll do it myself, then!".

This is a truly wholesome anime. Apart from certain animations in which KyoAni lost his mind and decided to spend the budget of 2 whole seasons for 3 minutes of fight-scene (warning: I'm not complaining, they are amazing lol) the rest doesn't particularly stand out. Nevertheless he absolutely deserves to be watched

The moment he's introduced to Lucoa: "Yep, this is proper anime." The original artist has two modes for female characters: cutting boards and beach balls. The beach balls may make it a bit iffy sometimes on RU-vid, but nothing bad enough to cause problems on Twitch. And neither take away from the pure innocent joy packed into every minute of this show. Truly medicine for the heart.

Yes, the EDs are performed by the cast. They also did covers of the OPs, and they have music videos for OP 1 and ED 2 where they cosplay as their characters. The original fhána music videos for the OPs are also pretty fun. Some of the dancing animation in OP 2 is based on the original music video.

Dragon Maid is part of the anime genre known as slice of life. There is no real "plot" and you just follow the characters on their daily life shenanigens. It is indeed wholesome and fun 🙂

The first OP and ED just tears me up every time I hear them, because of the tragedy that struck Kyoto Animation. RIP to all the staff that succumbed to the arson attack in 2019. The 2nd set of songs also makes me cry, for a different reason, cause it marked the comeback for them in the TV anime scene.

strangely enough, this is one of those anime that makes me realize how sad I am when anime reaction channels don't watch the OP/ED every episode. like, even if the part where the person is watching the OP gets cut from the video, I think I'd prefer to know that they did watch it every episode, because to me, it's part of the way this art piece is intended to be presented. the OP and ED are supposed to ease you into the tone that the episode is gonna spend time in... they're like a buffer space between reality and the way the show is going to be. and especially for an anime that wants to present this super marshmallowy view of things... it can be kind of jarring to jump straight in. and the ED is for the episode to sort of wave goodbye and lead you on out. I only ever skip an OP or ED if I can't stand it, or if it actually really clashes for some reason. plus, when you watch the same OP each episode, it gives you time to notice all the little things about it. some of the animation cuts are really impressive, but they go by pretty quickly... and if the studio ever decides to throw in a change to the OP or ED at a plot-significant moment in the story, it completely fails to impact you if you're just always skipping that part. like in the case of something like Chainsaw Man, or Dorohedoro, the EDs will change, and have something to do with the episode's actual content. actually, the biggest example I can think of is Ranking of Kings OP 2. that one has so much symbolism in it, and every time you watch an episode, you get to apply that symbolism to what you're seeing, and it means something a little bit more or different. and that progressing recontextualization can sometimes be huge... the whole last portion of the OP is a POV shot from a particular character. before you know who it is, you can assume that it belongs to other characters, and it's very touching each time. _after_ you know who it is, the meaning changes completely, and the OP makes you cry twice as hard from then on. comparing how this functions in context, vs. how it doesn't work at all when taken out of context... idk, Ranking of Kings is almost upsettingly well crafted sometimes. obviously do what you gotta do, but there's my little rant for what it's worth.

The same goes for Angel Beats. The OP and ED both change slightly during the series, to coincide with events in the series itself. Skipping them when watching feels wrong. I get that it has to be done sometimes for copyright strike reasons, but I'd rather the streamer just mutes it so the stream can't hear it and they can, just so they get the proper experience.

@@mrmxypltk exactly... or if it's a video that'll be on youtube later, just cutting out the clip is fine since it isn't a reaction to new content. and this also helps prevent missing things, like after credits scenes. in Dorohedoro, they have these cool little end cards where you get a list of new facts that you learned during the episode, narrated by the main character. and it can be kind of funny, because sometimes the stuff he'll highlight is nowhere near the most important stuff that happened that episode, but it's very in character for him. it's just cute, but it happens after the credits. or like the Juju Stroll segments in Jujutsu Kaisen, which he's watching now. I know people have told him to not miss them, and he knows... and I'm not trying to like, complain at him. he'll do whatever he's gonna and that's legitimately fine. this is just like... one more point in favor of watching end credits.

Except they're both right, because one is the Aired order, and one is the Chronological order, as the series was intentionally aired out of order.

I love this anime, it's a slice of life with the occasional epic moment and the occasional cheeky moment, but it's SFW. It's really about friendships and building a family, more than anything else, sprinkled with the madness of interacting with magical creatures. You'll really have a hard time at watching a single episode without smiling or chuckling.

oh! Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid! I will usually turn to chipper slice of life shows when my mood is down, because like... idk, it kind of forces you to see even little and mundane things a bit brighter? and this one really did it for me the last time I was in a funk, but it's been a long time. I will say, the cheeky stuff is almost sometimes a bit jarring for me... kinda took me out of it in some places, but if Konosuba was fine, this will probably be fine. I think my favorite character in the whole cast was Miss Kobayashi herself. all the other chaaracters are funny and cute, but the main character carried it for me. tbh, watching this show feels like fresh air and sunshine. which is important for a 3rd shift worker who can't see that as often.🥲 anyway, just real quick mentioning Dorohedoro again, and the Golden Kamuy endings if you're interested!

There's literally a paizuri themed eromanga set in the same universe and it's been ongoing just as long as Maidragon has.

@@BloodrealmX ah, yeah, I didn't really know anything about the show's pedigree going in... like, I saw big boob dragon lady in the OP, so I wasn't blindsided too much by just the existence of that... it's just that I mostly like the slice of life moments, so when the show goes full horny, I'm usually just kinda waiting to get back to the cute stuff.

The anime tones it down from the manga, too, and after where the anime has left off we get more of the drama topics that you get a taste of in Season 2 (there's a whole story arc around Kanna and her father that starts up at that point, and a while later there's one about Elma), so I guess it doesn't feel as strange to me when it isn't purely the iyashikei stuff. Cool-sensei seems to basically cater to himself as the primary audience so all of his works have at least a bit of variety within them.

Honestly? While it isnt always 100% happy go lucky and there are serious moments, the op and endings absolutely represent the Anime. Its a fun romp about an overworked office worker and the shenanigans she gets up to with her dragon family and friends. Ehhhh, probably pushing the edges, but it is technically safe for work in the same way that something like Friends is.

The reason the second opening sounds familiar is probably because it showed up in your recently reviewed "Top 50 Anime Openings of 2021" video. That might have something to do with everyone recommending the openings/endings/series to you. i think the suggestions came so suddenly because the second opening was in one of the compilation videos you recently reacted to (i think it was best ops of 2021) daisuki means i love you, yes. i think it's one of the more innocent versions used with family and close friends. (there's also aishiteru, which i think is used exclusively for romantic partners) dragon maid really is a cute sweet story. there are a few awkward fanservice moments that make me wonder what the creator was thinking adding those scenes, but the overwhelming majority is just a found family slice of life show.

Underrated opinion here. I often use both of the openings for my playlist. You should check the full version MV via the Artist's channel. It's fun to watch. Fyi, that boobs is not just boobs. It's a dragon breath storage. :)))

The 2nd OP has alot of referances in the lyrucs about overcoming tragedy and getting back to living life. But also when torhru fliats from heaven back to earth it represents the ones who died coming from heaven. Especially the 1st season director who died in the kyoani fire. Cause they create magic with anime

Fhana has such a fantastic voice. It has a quality to it that I don't have the words to describe that just makes me happy. The show itself is one of my favourite feel good animes and I re-watch it regularly when I feel the need for a boost in happiness. Also, if you think the OP/ED animations are trippy in this show, I would like you to watch a SHAFT studio OP/ED, Sayonara Setsubou Sensei might be a good place to start.

Short comment since my keyboard is broken, this is my favorite non-super serious anime. It's ultra light like some romance or slice of life animes where nothing happens but the plot and characters change and evolve at very good pacing, the action is insanely going, the anime is fun, and it's extremely wholesome and heartwarming. There is no way a sane human being could ever be bored or dislike the anime

This anime is a really wholesome, a slide of life comedy that will hit you with feelings when you less expecte it, even when having a comedy scene if you think about the reason they act that way it hits your chest. Not exactly in a sad way, sometimes its just really warm, but when you think of the dragon maid's future without the human she fell in love with... it is sad...

Dragon Maid is (mostly) pretty wholesome. There are some scenes that are... kind of questionable, but overall its just a really good feels anime. It's one of the better mainstream anime to watch if you don't want something super dark or stressful. Most of the time its just silly good feels fun...that can get taken a bit too far in the inappropriately lewd direction sometimes.

For this one I highly recommend checking out the music videos for the OPs too, especially the second one - a lot of fun. Well, pretty much everything related to this series ia a lot of fun. So don't worry, no shocking twists here! There's some action (with amazing animation because Kyoto Animation can't help but flex) but nothing too dramatic. Two seasons of wholesome goodness that is mostly safe for RU-vid - there's a beach episode and S1's OVA is slightly risky too if I remember correctly, but nothing that a little blurring can't make RU-vid-friendly.

I would thoroughly recommend the anime for a viewing to anyone. Yes, really good fun - some genuinely fun episodes and laffs in all of them (literally made me laugh out loud more than any anime I can recall), though there's the odd episode with some moving moments. I'm always sad though when I remember what happened to the studio (Kyoto Animation aka KyoAni) after the first season was made - so sad to recall that many of the people involved in the first series lost their lives in such a horrific way, RIP them all.

I love this anime. I hope you see it someday. It is truly 85% happy and fun. It does get a little serious here and there, but nothing to dark. This anime is safe for work. There are some clothed giggly bits, but nothing that needs to be censored as far as I remember.

The female vocalist on both of the openings (done by the band fhana) is Towana. In the second opening she's joined by Kevin Mitsunaga. They're not humans who can turn into dragons, they're dragons who can turn into humans. And the maid is a dragon. Kobayashi-san is the human she lives with and works for. "Did the cast sing this?" Yes, both of the endings are sung by the voice actors of the female dragons in the series.

No, no, Kobayashi is just really fun. I think that singing lessons are typically part of training for voice actors in japan, so it's not rare to have them sing in openings/endings and in the shows. You'll love YOASOBI「アイドル」- it is a song that played at the end of the first episode of Oshi no ko, which you probably hear for the first time now, because I'm pretty sure the first episode dropped less than 24 hours ago. That show lives up to it's amazing manga and the first episode has like 5 twists, it will be a massive roller coaster ride for you. Sidenote: you learning japanese through anime shows how far you have come. "daisuki" is indeed "I love you" (well, technically it's "(to) love", but in this context it fits)

This one actually is a fun nice anime. There is a lot of "plot" in this anime, and by "plot' we mean those 2 characters with back/shoulder issues. A lot of calm moments, but does have surprisingly good action scenes.

this anime is really fun and so well animated. anything this animation studio touches becomes gold. sadly a few years ago they had a arsonist burn down the company building and they have slowly recovered from it overtime and one of the first things they animated after that event was the second season for this show ( mind you , no one expeceted a season 2 because they aren't all that known for making season 2s )
