Man, Stevie is the only guitarists that can make Jimi Hendrix's playing on a song sound second best. He was just that special. He played through the paint on that Strat. It was a lot of hard work and practice on top of the immense natural talent and feel for the pocket that made him great. I'm always happy when people find something they can like/love/appreciate about the artists and music we throw their way. Never upset if you don't like something, but when we can put somebody on to a song they legitimately like as much as we do, it does feel like the world is better for it.

He used 13 gage strings because he was pulling and bending the strings so much that smaller gage couldn't handle and get out of tune before the song was over....great song originally for Jimmy Hendrix

He also used bass frets because his bends would grind them down to fast.

I went to school with SRV and he was the nicest guy. When I last saw him at Mother blues he set a speaker on fire playing this. We went out the stage door while it was fixed and chatted with them all . He was the GOAT blues guitar player 😊

I always felt like SRV was an open medium channeling music seamlessly and effortlessly like no other guitarist has ever done. He died in 1990 at the age of 36, and what more would he have given us had he lived? I can find no argument that SRV was an absolute musical genius...... living in Jimi's neighborhood! RIP SRV. Some must listens: Pride and Joy, Leave My Little Girl Alone, Couldn’t Stand The Weather, Little Wing, Ain’t Gonna Give Up On Love, Blues At Sunrise (With Albert King). I enjoyed your reaction, TY.

The song is from Jimi Hendrix, Stevie was such a fan of his that he personally asked Jimi's dad permission to cover his songs. His dad was so honored that he let Stevie use one of his guitars. RESPECT

Doing a math problem in his head, music is mathematical, and writing all of the possible solutions on his guitar strings and solving it. Genius.
@harrietmiller3982
@harrietmiller3982 27 дней назад
It's funny that you equated his playing to math problems. It reminded me of an interview with Stevie where he said he took a music theory class in high school and flunked it. He had never learned to read music as he taught himself to play by listening to records, over and over... So everyone else in class read music. It felt like an advanced math class to him that didn't make a lot of sense to him. He said the only time he ever got in trouble when playing is when he tried to think it through where to go next. So he just straps in and lets it flow. I don't think it mattered whether or not he read music cuz music read him just fine😉🎸🎶🎸💙‼️💯

SRV=GOAT Thanks for the reaction. You nailed your explanation of your understanding that he had mastered his chosen instrument and just manifested what he heard in his mind. Its like he would enter that state of mind where he directly channeled the music. He literally stepped away to allow the music through. Its like that scene in The Shining when the mother is talking to the son & he says "Danny isn't here Mrs. Torrance...'

I've been making my way through your channel. Love your reactions. I'm in my 50s and it's so wonderful to see a younger person appreciate the music I grew up with. You ask for recommendations, so here's an artist you haven't reacted to yet, as far as I can tell - Clint Black. He's a country artist, and I think you'll like him. He does a lot of songs with a message and story songs. His catalogue is deep, but "A Better Man" is a good one, and "Summer's Comin'" is just fun.

Everything in life reduces to math, including how larger and smaller strings vibrate at different sound wavelengths. Even on a “regular” guitar, the higher note strings are smaller (lower gauge) than the lower notes. I think and am sure someone can confirm, it’s just the mm thickness, so 13mm?

Besides the heavy strings, and the settings……. The man could not read or write music notes. I remember, driving in to work, and hearing it come over the radio, that Eric Clapton’s chopper went down. Was still a breaking story, and there had been no word of any survivors. I remember thinking, holy sh!t, we just lost one of the GOATs. Got into the yard, and was met by guys who had just heard the announcement , that EC was not on board, but SRV was, and there were no survivors. I said we lost THE GOAT. I recall some time later, an interview with EC. He had said, he was in his car, heading to the next show, where his chopper was going, and he was going to meet up with his crew. He heard about the crash, right there, driving and hearing it on the radio.

Hi Shon. Always enjoy your emotional reactions and your commentary on the new music to you journey. Well, you asked for suggestions and here is mine. Please react to music from the 70's band called, MOXY. Their first album is also referred to as the black album as it simply has their band name on a black album jacket. It's a studio/audio only LP. Now, I've made this request to other reactor's but none of them seem to take this request seriously. It's too bad since this music is great from the first track to the last. As an aside, this band did not have a long history since tragedy struck the lead singer and they were never the same band afterwards. I got to see this band perform in the mid 70's actually sitting cross legged on the floor directly in front of the band's stage left for the entire performance. I know you will enjoy their music but will you take this request seriously?!

Playing with just your left hand is not that difficult. He is doing techniques like “hammer ons”, “pull offs”, slides and other things that don’t necessarily require you to pick with the right hand. Lots of guitarists do it but you might not have noticed (I can do it). Regardless, Stevie Ray Vaughn is undoubtedly one of the best if not the best that’s ever lived.
