Please, please, PLEASE do "I'm So Excited". Probably their most hard hitting dance tune from the very height of their career, and they are GORGEOUS🥰 Also please do their Country hit "Fairytale" which they made history with as the first BLack vocal group to sing at the Grand Old Opry, AND won them a C&W Grammy "...for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group, marking the first awarding of a Grammy to an all-female vocal group and making the Pointer Sisters the only black women to date who have won a Grammy in a country music category" They REALLY broke barriers and made history! Everybody LOVED these ladies❤❤❤ Anita also had a number 2 hit on the Country charts in a duet with Earl Thomas Conley "Too Many Times"

I remember being amused when people seemed surprised that Bruce Springsteen was interested in R & B music. Not only did he produce R & B shouter Gary U.S. Bonds but he also worked with Donna Summer though their collaboration didn't get as much attention as I thought it would.

I've heard it rumored that Springsteen wrote this song with Elvis in mind. He hoped that Elvis would listen and record it, but of course Mr. Presley passed away before that could happen, so the song went to the Pointer Sisters, who did a great job with it and almost took it to #1.

"Jump" is actually a later song than this one. "Jump" is from 1984 and this is 1978. It's just that their dress styles are different and the way they carry themselves, just following the trends of the two time periods. The Pointer Sisters first came to prominence in the early 1970s, and I think you'd really enjoy one of their early hits called "Yes We Can Can" from 1973.

Jay and Amber, What I love about the Pointer Sisters is how genre-defying they were. The slow rocking Fire was written by Bruce Springsteen and was years before Jump was released. Even earlier was their genre-defying, Grammy Award-winning Fairytale that will blow you away … you won’t believe it’s them. Then take in their sultry Happiness and my personal favorite If You Wanna Get Back Your Lady. Prepare to be awed!

Yeah, PeteW, edit that again. Bonnie passed before Anita, unexpectedly. Anita had been sick for a few years, and she and Bonnie were best friends. It really took the fight out of Anita to lose her. Ruth performs now with her daughter Issa and granddaughter Sadako as The Pointer Sisters. They both used to fill-in occasionally before becoming permanent members, so it still feels authentic.

What most don't know or forget is that they started out doing some serious jazz. The first three albums (and the fourth if you count the live album) on Blue Thumb Records covered serious jazz music and some blues and more. There was their first hit, Yes We Can Can, and they covered more (Bonnie was still with them, the fourth Pointer Sister) like Dizzy Gillespie's Salt Peanuts, and then Steam Heat, Little Pony, Love in Them Hills, Jada, Black Coffee and more. I personally preferred this genre over the pop hits they later had and that is not to say they were not stellar as well. But the mere vocals they shot us with on these albums are mind blowing. They did a whole lot of scatting as well. A really top tier group.
@richardworonowicz9076
@richardworonowicz9076 Месяц назад
This record won them a platinum disc . Bruce Springsteen wrote the song then gave it to the Pointer Sisters. When the Pointers sisters first started they were 4 of them and they jazz , county and would dress in 1940s clothing. However their sister Bonnie left to go solo. As they became three, they change to Disco with songs like ''Jump'' and '' I'm so Excited'' and modern sounds like ''Fire'' and ''Slow Hand''. It worth noting that each of the 3 sisters take in turns taking a lead in their songs

This was the one that made the 'new' Pointer Sisters stars. Sister Bonnie had left for a solo career with Motown. Bruce had given this song to a male artist and it was a modest chart hit for him before Richard Perry (producer) decided this would be a single for the girls. This music video (still not so common for US artists) helped it become a world-wide hit.

The writer, Bruce Springsteen, also knocks this one out of the park in his marathon live concerts. Back to the Pointer Sisters, there is SO much you need to hear from them, including their first funky hit, "Yes We Can Can," plus "Automatic," "I'm So Excited," and "Dare Me." They were so hot by 1984 that even their producer, Richard Perry, put them as backup singers on Barbra Streisand's dance single, "Emotion." Unfortunately, for the sisters, the mix of "Emotion," was subpar and their backing vocals could've been anyone's. I firmly believe had they brought their vocals up in the mix, the song would've been a big hit.

My husband was the road/tour manager for The Pointer Sisters back in the late 70's, when there were still 4 of them, and as you might imagine, they were a handful. But they did throw him a birthday party when they were playing D.C. and staying at the Watergate Hotel. They'd invited all their friends and peers who were in the area, like The Temptations and The Four Tops, using my husband's birthday as an excuse for a big party. Turned out, he was the only white guy in the place, and he had a blast.

I was growing up in Los Angeles when this song came out by the Pointer Sisters if I'm not mistaken they had a unique version for several different local radio stations. So when I heard it they started with "I'm ridin' in your car, You turn on the radio(filled in with "to K-Earth 101") immediately after radio. That was the station I heard it on even though that was an oldie station playing songs from the 50's at the time.

In the 80's. When you saw a record with Pointer Sisters you just had to buy it. You just knew its gonna be great.

Just a note in case you didnt know there is a 4th pointer sister who left the group for a solo career Bonnie Pointer. They had a country hit single Fairytale which got them to be the first black group to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. Bonnie hit you might like is a cover made into a disco song I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)

Another family group you should check out is The Roches. They were a trio of sisters known for their incredible harmonies and quirky but fun and beautiful songs. We're Going Away to Ireland, Mr Seleck, The Hammond Song, Runs In The Family.

They are younger here than in Jump. This song was from 1978, Jump was from 1983. Slow hand is another great one they did.

I love The Pointer Sisters. They started with four sisters; Ruth, Anita, Bonnie, and June, now only one is still with us, Ruth the sister with the low contralto voice. My favorite is "Betcha Got a Chick on the Side." My neice was just about seven years old when that was on radio and she'd belt that song out like she was really feeling it!❤️

Please react to the Pointer Sisters earlier hits from the mid 70s! Their performance of 'Yes We Can Can' on Soul Train. Other songs: 'Betcha Got a Chick on the Side'; 'Going Down Slowly'; 'You Gotta Believe' from the movie 'Car Wash'. They were originally 4 sisters in the group (Ruth, Anita, Bonnie and June). Bonnie left the group and had a disco hit 'Heaven Must Have Sent You' in late 70s. 'Dare Me' by the Pointer Sisters was a later hit in the 80s that's one of my favorites!

AS Springsteen tells it, he wrote this for Elvis Presley who died before he could give it him. Springsteen's version is FIRE! He rarely performs it. These ladies did a fine job.

You should play their songs written by New Orleans' own Allen Toussaint. Yes We Can, Can was one of their earlier hits when all four sisters were in the group. After sister Bonnie left, they did another one of his songs called Happiness.
