ABBA - The GREATEST POP GROUP in music history!!! Waterloo was their breakthrough song after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. The name ABBA is made up from their initials. Waterloo launched their international career after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. Actually, do check out 'ABBA - Does Your Mother Know & Hole In Your Soul (ABBA In Concert)' I really promise you will not regret one second! This twelve year old - at the time in 1974 - instantly fell for Frida.
"Waterloo" (1974) is one of my favorites, and is in my Top 5 of all ABBA songs (with S.O.S. , Dancing Queen, The winner takes it all & Don't shut me down) and I think that is the song that change history, for ABBA, for Sweden music, for the Eurovision Song Contest, and for pop music too "Waterloo" was the song that ABBA wrote especially to participate in the annual Eurovision Song Contest By the rules of the competition the songs could not exceed 3 minutes (that its 2:46) and ABBA made a masterpiece! ABBA first sing it in Swedish, for the local selection in Sweden (February 1974) and finally ABBA sing it in English in the final held in Brighton UK (April 6,1974, exactly 50 years ago) before 16 interpreters and songs from all over Europe.
