"Why haven't you given her a gun yet?" Maybe because she's all of nine years old? Though that does beg the question of why she's allowed to experiment with explosives. And yes, you're the only person who doesn't like Heimerdinger. It's akin to hating Yoda.
I doubt they even have the resources to get actual fire weapons down there. If you pay attention, it's like the regular equipment for the regular enforcer in the upper city, but not even the mercenaries from episode 1 seemed to have them in the undercity. I assume it is too rare of a resource in the lower class. And of course, on top of that, Powder is a little girl that shouldn't have a weapon like that and, even if she did, I bet she still would freeze up in battle. She's skilled and all but practice targets are not the same as human ones.
Biggest reason why powder doesn't have a gun is actually lack of access? They're poor they have no access to firearms. Also a lot of people don't like Heimerdinger for the classist system he perpetuates.
what happened at the bridge years ago is called "The Day of Ashes" and it was a peaceful demonstration that escalated to.. well we see the results. vi gives herself up because she feels responsible and that she has to do it and stop the enforcers violence
Not to spoil anything, but I definitely think my opinion on him has changed a bit since finishing the series! I think his voice was really what got to me on my first watch-through, lol!
@@LeightonReacts no worries. I wasn’t invalidating your first take. I can see how you could initially see him that way. I’m glad you kept an open mind though.😊
I got hooked in this ep when I realized Vi was turning herself in to save Powder. Vander's "Whatever happens...it's on you" really struck me, and apparently Vi too.
At this point in the show I was still kinda waiting for the big event to happen but already totally on board with the mind-blowing art and animation and really enjoying the dialogues. Their quality made me feel confident about the overall quality of the whole story.
Well, we’ve now met our main cast! Now the story can really begin... Can’t wait until next week to see my reaction to episode 3? Head over to my Patreon, where extended cuts of ALL 9 EPISODES are available at the $10 tier! And make sure to let me know where your headspace is now/where it was when you first watched this episode! I’d love to know what you think/thought of the show at this point.
I was hooked from the opening scene of episode 1. But I knew ahead of time a little bit about the general structure of the show, so I knew how intense it gets cranked up to starting at episode 3.
Yeah, I think going in blind it's hard to trust that the writers knew what they were doing with the slow-burn, but after finishing the series it's like "How were you not hooked from the first second?!" lol
10:00 YESSSS SOMEONE WHO HATES THIS CHARACTER TOO 🤣 Also I love how opposite our reactions to Heimerdinger were because the rest have been so similar so far. I am totally the kid- fodder they're catering to hahaha
I've been roasted by my comment section for my hate of Heimerdinger and the other non-human characters 😂 I grew to appreciate him more during my rewatches, but this first time I hated the little furby, lolol
I like how Vander was already noble in risking his own life to better his followers’, only to be strong enough to survive while his followers died. Then their orphaned children wander into the fight looking for their parents who he unintentionally got killed by trying to help them. I noticed the “brawling leader” parallel between Vander and Vi right away, but I like how there is also the “hurt the people you try to help” parallel he has with Powder.
As a writer, it's interesting to compare how much screen time the show gave to Vander's backstory and the fight on the bridge (something like 5 minutes total) to how much time you spent explaining it in this reaction. The writer's didn't actually spell out very much, but they gave you a cold open that left you questioning, and then sprinkled in hints in character design and behavior, with a half dozen lines of dialogue later, and left the viewer to essentially write their own version of what happened. It's a really genius way to tell something which is important to the story, but also would distract from the main story. It also means that in a way, that backstory exists in the viewers mind the same way as it does in the character's minds, since it's not something we see and it exists wholly in our imaginings.
I had the same reaction to Heimerdinger at the beginning but he turns out to be a nuanced (and flawed) character. You have to get past his appearance. He's no goofier looking than Yoda when you think about it, and that didn't seem to hurt STAR WARS. And yeah, when I first watched it, I was a little impatient too, because I found some of the tropes a little familiar and thought I knew what was coming. But then I wound up rewatching the first two because I realized I had been too impatient with the story construction. There's very little wasted screen time in this show, and a lot of plot elements only appear once but are followed up on episodes later, and it rewards close attention.
100% agree about how rewarding the show ends up being, it's definitely a slow burn but I think that's for good reason! As for Heimerdinger, I definitely think I've warmed up to him after finishing the series!
I already saw this first season to the end, several times to honest and a lot more by reactors like you. But... I'm backing myself to the start stage just to have the privilege to watch it again with you. With the pandemic, I didn't have the opportunity to watch the show with my friends here in Brazil, I did it alone (and also them). So I decided to search for people that I like over the internet that is making first time reactions, to have again and again the sensation to share it with a friendly face 😊
I know a lot of people, especially writers like us, love to theorize on shows like this but trust me when I say it is way more rewarding to just let the plot develop as it will than be a lore zombie or make predictions . This is a Fortiche and Riot Games show. These people have been developing these characters and worlds for years and now they`re fleshing them out and humanizing them, they know precisely what they are doing!
I was hooked at episode 1 when they went underground and the song “welcome to the playground” played. The music is for me a very important part of a show/movie. Interesting fact: the writers of arcane were total noobs, they’ve never scripted a show before. So it’s very interesting to hear that they literally “killed the cat”. I’m sure that was no coincidence. About Heimerdinger: while he himself is a good guy, he is a Yordle (a race of deceptive, very powerful magical creatures). And the saying goes: Never trust a Yordle.
Other than "Enemy", that song is my favorite on the soundtrack! It was definitely one of the first things I loved about this series. And that's actually super interesting to learn about the Yordles, makes me wonder if that'll come into play in season 2... 🤔
I was very interested in the world from episode 1. Just beautiful animation and worldbuilding. But I wasn't hooked yet. That happened to me at the end of episode 2 when Vi was about to give herself in. At that moment I was like "NOOOO, you can't leave it on that note"... Maybe not hooked for the whole season, but just enough to crave the next episode. Episode 3 is where most (if not all) are hooked.
Have you seen She-ra? There's an episode litterally called "save the cat" but at that point the saviours don't need endearing anymore. But it's good wordplay.
Omg She-Ra is my current obsession, I've rewatched it a million times, lol! That episode was the absolute best and I KNOW the writers titled it that on purpose
@@LeightonReacts nothing will take my obsession away from arcane for a long time but I thought it was very good too. Very emotional just like arcane lol
I was with you on Vander going to be unalived, but I didn't see all that I was in for. Woof. Thankfully, I went into this show knowing nothing, and I mean NOTHING. It was a privilege.
I was pretty much on board from the beginning, largely because the animation is just too good for me not to be. And Vi and Powder are such a heartwarming duo I fell in love immediately. I didn't have your issues with pacing, and frankly I'm sure by the end of the series you'll find the pacing is perfect too. Though I admit a lot of other folks really only go from "liking" to "loving" the show with the catalyst you're waiting for. And trust me, there's a lot of setup in the first two episodes so you can more easily follow a fairly complex plot involving multiple factions fairly easily with one particular conflict at the core. As for Heimerdinger, he was made to appeal to those that like cutesy characters like a lot of Yordles (League is a T-rated game after all,) but he's actually a lot more nuanced in this show than in the game, trust me. In the games and the other media based on it (mostly short stories and commercials/cinematics) he's basically "lol, funny yordle scientist." Here his story and personality is much improved and you'll get a better idea of it later on.
The animation's incredible, for sure! I think that and the characters is what hooked me from episode one, and the rest fell into place by episode three. I also think I've definitely warmed up to Heimerdinger after finishing the series!
Just wanted to let you know I am enjoying your reactions so far. If this follows how other reactions go you should get quite a bit more views for episode 3. I know starting a new channel can be frustrating but hand in there!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you've been enjoying! I'm having a great time making these videos and am just grateful for the views/subscribers I've already gained! 😊
Did everyone else miss this video release .. like me? Judging by the views difference probably yes .. aw well. The catalyst is coming dont worry .. hope u dont get spoiled
Lol, just glad you found it now! 😊 And I've already finished the series, so no worries about spoilers! That warning's more for anyone in the comments who hasn't seen the whole show yet!
Yeah me too, I swear I checked for episode two a few times over the last week, but now it's showing as having released at the same time as episode one? RU-vid might be bugging.
It might be the way I have them uploaded as "Unlisted" so I can post them early on Patreon, I'll have to mess with settings and see if there's any way I can fix that!
@@LeightonReacts Yeah, I'm sure it's fixable but I think with this episode it doesn't come up in the search results for "arcane reaction" because RU-vid sees it was originally uploaded 8 days ago and doesn't think it's relevant now compared to the newer reaction videos people have put out in the last week, and of course it didn't show up when it first came out because it was unlisted.
