There is an entire documentary about Elvis' love of Southern Gospel Music. It's called "The Gospel Side of Elvis". Elvis' only Grammy awards were for his three Gospel albums. After his Las Vegas concerts, he had trouble "Coming Down" to go to sleep. He would always get the gospel singers in his band to come over to his room and play the piano. They would sing old time gospel songs together sometimes until the sun came up. If Elvis hadn't been a rock singer, he would have loved being a just a gospel singer. It was the heart and soul of Elvis. You would never know it from the movie.

That was a beautiful reaction, Sheray . Austin Butler was robbed of the Oscar. Just to answer some of your questions; the rap song you heard when Elvis was walking through Memphis as a young man was from Doja Cat. The woman playing with Little Richard was the singer Yola, who is incredibly talented and she was portraying sister Rosetta Thorpe. The Director used many contemporary artists to help guide younger viewers through Elvis’s journey. Reason being was that Elvis was the rapper and outlaw of his day.

Great movie. Saw it 13 times in the theatre. Love my Elvis. Don’t worry, I don’t think anyone can make it to the end without crying a time or two.

So so happy that you finally got to see this movie. This is the greatest movie about Elvis ever made. It does a great job to sum up 42 years in only three hours.

- - - - I saw it 3x, and do like it, but as I balance everything, there are major shortcomings, events that never happened (Elvis rants on stage at his manager; his father being portrayed as a whimp; his utter disrespect for his mother and mouthing off at her; Club Handy; etc. The worst for me was portraying Elvis as a product of the blues, with no other influences in his life. Elvis' biggest influence was Dean Martin (never mentioned). He wanted to be a Pop Crooner just like Dean and Bing Crosby. Also omitted was the huge impact Country Music had on Elvis, Hank Williams, Hank Snow (shown as a nemesis in the film), Gene Autry, Roy Rogers. Likewise traditional European Hymns were not shown, even though Elvis' first singing was done in his family's Tuepelo Church (not the minority church that was emphasized). A defining moment not shown was Elvis at 14 yrs old, getting permission from his mom to go to an all night Hymn Sing where he met JD Sumner (of the Stamps Gospel Quartet, as well as the Blackwoods Quartet). These, along with Hovie Lyster, The Statesmen, etc were all major influences on the other side of the isle, never mentioned. I could get into the topic of Bluegrass Music, Appalachin (mountain music), and even Big Band, Opera, and Classical. Listen to Elvis in 1970 & 1972 interviews where he discuses his being like a sponge absorbing all these genres. But this biopic is perhaps the most exciting one, given the fast pace, albeit I do think Kurt Russel's biopic of Elvis in 1978 interpreted a few areas better and the story seemed more fact based than Austin's movie. Both are good, both entertaining. I think Austin sounded more natural, and did less over-the-top interpretation of Elvis' moves on stage in the 50s (his always seemed out of control). I would also suggest the 1981 documentary THIS IS ELVIS.

Elvis the legend! Be sure to watch some of the movie Elvis starred in, like King Creole (1958), Flaming Star (1960), Wild in the Country (1961), Blue Hawaii (1961), Viva Las Vegas (1964)...

Saw this movie 32 times in the theatre ... each time I discovered something new ... for example , my small hometown newspaper (The Newark Advocate) was one of the featured headlines describing Elvis ! Austin definitely should have won the Academy Award for his performance ... Elvis was , and still is , and always will be THE MAN ... TCB forever !

If it sounds just like Elvis singing in the movie, its because it is Elvis. Austin sang some of the earlier Elvis songs. But got blended in with Elvis on the later songs ❤

Nice reaction. Movie was very entertaining but not entirely accurate. For example if you do research Priscilla had already cheated on Elvis when he did the show where he kissed all the fans.
