@Professor No Name You question a couple of times about how long it took to make this film. And the astonishing thing is that filming took 39 days. Over 500 VFX shots were created by 5 guys working on their laptops in their apartments during the pandemic. Not hundreds of people working sweat shop hours, enslaved to big studios. The entire budget of this film was 1/8th of Doctor Strange. Goes to show you that great storytelling and creative film making trumps lazy writing and big bucks thrown at visuals.

Good news: EEAAO is supposed to be re-released in theaters on 7/29! I truly hope you get to see it in theaters because the communal experience for such a unique film is truly amazing and unprecedented. I saw it in theaters four times, add I've NEVER done that before!

Thank you for the reaction! I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. It's one of the best movies I've ever seen. There's so much more you notice after rewatching the movie too. Definitely watch it again and you'll see what I mean. So good!!

When Alpha Waymond told Evelyn could either go left to the auditor or right to the janitor's closet, he didn't actually want her to go right. Instead, he was just creating a choice, which in turn created a new branching universe to use as a burner universe. Genius.

If you can believe it, this work of art was filmed in roughly 38 or 39 days with a budget of only $25 million. I think it was said that they only had 9 editors working on the film which is absolutely insane

The story behind the choreographers is also so so incredible. The fights are so amazing, it must be some famous stunt name, right? No, Brian and Andy Le are self taught brothers who got their start on RU-vid! The "trophy" fight where you're simultaneously in disbelief and also THIS IS INCREDIBLE?? That's them 😁 😀

Kindness as a means of survival is profound on many levels. I love this movie to death, always. I'm sure you've heard all of the trivia and then some now, but my favorite tidbits are; The Daniels also directed the Turn Down For What music video. The actor who played Weymond is the same guy who played Short Round in Temple of Doom and Data in the Goonies. The movie's budget was only $25 million, and they had 7 visual effects artists. Michelle Yeoh was their second pick after they'd written it for Jackie Chan. The two guys in the butt plug scene did the fight choreo, and the smaller one was Deathdealer in Shang-Chi. They have a RU-vid channel which is how they achieved success, and modeled their stuntwork off of movies that Yeoh, Chan, and many more have starred in. A profoundly important film. Loved the video.

Daniel Kwan was the main character in Turn Down For What, the guy getting spanked in this film is Daniel Schienert. Kwan's Co-star in Turn Down For What, Sunita Mani, is the female star in the musical that is playing on television in this film.

The biggest thing you miss out on not seeing this in theaters is when the universe of the two rocks first appears. At that point most of the scenes have taken place in the windowless IRS office with loud noise and visual chaos. Suddenly, you are transported to a very bright, quiet planet. The whole theater fills with light and just the sound of wind whistling. It has a dramatic impact on your emotions. Also, it was Michelle Yeoh's idea to put text on the screen instead of auditory conversation between the two rocks.

After the first 10 minutes I knew I was in for a good movie. But I was nowhere prepared for the rollercoaster of emotions I’d experience for the next 2 hours and half. The genuine laughs and uncontrollable tears. I've seen thousands of movies in my life and this might be the best movie I've ever seen it, a perfect to top to bottom film is just truly spectacular. I got a feeling that i witnessed a new stage in the evolution of film, the budget of this film was 25millon so they only had one month to shoot on the set and the vfx team were only 5 guys who all learned from RU-vid, this movie is extremely spiring, showing that you dont need the Marvel budget to make a movie on the level of the MCU, just need passion and people who are actually doing for the art, and this movie is that, art.

I absolutely love this film, it'll be one for the ages for sure. To me it's like the love child of Matrix and Brazil. Funny tidbit, it's the two guards in the buttplug scene that are the martial arts choreographers for the film, and they really did an AMAZING job. Moral of the story for me is that there are people in this world who are beacons of kindness. If you find one, take care of them, and if you can be one, do it, it's always worth it.

Loved every second. Wanted more. EVERY TIME I watch it i see something different. I see it from Evelyn's. Waymond's and Joy's point of view. Awesome awesome movie. Top 5 all time no doubt. @27:06 - yes, it is like the bagel but inverted colors. It is Waymond's existentialist view vs Jobu's nihilistic view. Part of the circle motif throughout (most spiritual shape in Chinese culture) and of course related to ying/yang. Even for those of us who are older, this is a rare type of movie that is up there with things like The Matrix (which it obviously pays homage to), Eternal Sunshine, and others that blows your mind and reminds you why you love the art form.

Hey Professor. Fairly new subscriber who loves your reactions. Watched this for the first time yesterday and while watching your reaction today, in your video at 11:54 I literally just realised she does appear to love her in a different universe. So the declaration was genuine! Plus, she's also an actor in another universe, so maybe she tapped into that instead to declare her love convincingly! Who’s who: Directors- Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s debut films are Swiss Army Man starring Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano. Ke Huy Quan (Waymond, the father) was Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Data in The Goonies. Some films EEAAO referenced are- Ratatouille, The Matrix, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clock Work Orange, In the Mood For Love, Captain America, The Mask, Rick and Morty, The Looney Tunes, and a very distant nod to Big Trouble in Little China (Alpha Gong Gong in the wheelchair) All the above films, if you have not seen them, you should, except for The Matrix.

Great movie, but the ending was terrible. Evelyn should have let Joy go. If you love someone or something you let it go. Both having a co-dependance on their toxic relationship. If it takes an ultimatum to change, you were never going to change. Evelyn was using her daughter for her own happiness, quite selfish. Both should have went there own way and been happy.
@mibadada
@mibadada 2 года назад
I disagree! I actually do agree that it would have been bad if Evelyn had refused to let her go, but what Evelyn did was different. She let Joy go, but gave one more try to honestly explain that she still wants her to stay, and then let her make the choice on her own. (In the bagel universe, she stopped fighting to hold on to Jobu and only pulled her out when she reached back out of it.) And the thing she said to Joy at the end to convince her wasn't something manipulative like "I need you" or promising to change, it was "I will always want to be here with you" - offering the unconditional support that Joy didn't get from her before, but not making any demands that it needs to be reciprocated I do think that they could have been happy without each other, and there are situations in the real world where a family relationship is not worth maintaining because it is too toxic, but I don't think their relationship crosses that line

@@mibadada Yeah, that's what i understood too.
@goofrider
@goofrider 2 года назад
You do understand that "let her go" in the parking lot is directly correlated to her going into the the bagel in the IRS universe, right? That is, letting her kill herself. Jobu even said "I'm just looking for someone who can see what I see, feel what I feel". And our Evelyn is the only Evelyn who would go as far as she did to experience what Jobu was experiencing. And that's because she finally saw the pain in Jobu/Joy in the bagel scene.
@humbertoquadros9384
@humbertoquadros9384 2 года назад
@@goofrider Yes, but also no. "Let her go" actually is translated to "stop trying to control her, let she do her own choices", and not to "let her kill herself". Her choice in the "main"verse was suicide, yes, but on the partyverse it was to just go away from Eve. That is why the movie does not end when Eve tells Gong Gong that Joy is a lesbian. Because Joy didnt want to be there, but Eve forced her to do something EVE was now thinking was the best for Joy. But Eve was still trying to control her, just in another way. The true change is revealed when Eve learns she has to let Joy make her own choices, but tells her that Eve is still there for she, and that they can both try to do better. If not, Joy's life is her own.
@jkfecke
@jkfecke 2 года назад
I actually thought it was perfect, because it wasn't a perfect ending. Evelyn didn't just make one simple decision and Joy didn't just tie things off neatly. They reconciled, but their relationship isn't perfect now. They're humans. But that doesn't matter. Nothing matters, except trying to be kind to others, and accept their kindness in turn.
