Hey guys, did you miss me? I'm so glad to be back for reactions and I figured the perfect movie to come back with, was the franchise closet to my heart, the Anne Rice vampire movies. It is time to watch Queen of the Damned, lets just say I hope I don't hurt some of yall feelings with my reaction. But its all good, we're family and if you can't be honest with family, who can you be honest with. That being said, enjoy!

I love your spirited and entertaining reviews. You made some good points here. This is my explanation. From what I recall, Aaliyah had unfortunately died before the final filming was completed. Maybe this explains her limited scenes. (Or they just made a bad film.) In fact, Aaliyah’s brother’s voice was used to dub some scenes, since he sounded similar to Aaliyah. I don’t think Jesse was character in the book. That “extra”who had only one line was supposed to be Armand. Lol. And there was no mention of Louis at all, despite their enduring relationship. I think the reason that Akasha didn’t just burn all the vampires in the room was because many of them were her contemporaries from ancient Egypt and very powerful too, including Jesse’s “aunt” Maharet and her twin sister. Also, Magnus was Lestat’s maker but Marius sort trained him later.

Not a vegetative state, Akasha and Enkil became living statues after they lost their bloodlust, but they were aware of what was going on around them but typically Ricean vampires slip into what is basically a coma for a variety of reasons and really only wake up when and if something interests them like Lestat with rock music

But she's wrong because it's a good enough film if you're not trying to judge it all the way through. 😅 I only just watched it a couple years ago and I hadn't watched any of the previous movies in over a decade so I didn't remember any plot. It was just a cheesy rock/vampire movie from the early 2000's, Is there anything that we were expecting from this movie? And it's not even REALLY based on the book like all movies from the early 2000's so it's a 50/50 chance someone will like it. 😂🤷

I love Aaliyah as Akasha and the set designs, soundtrack, and atmosphere, but yeah--the movie is very loosely based on the second and third books of the Vampire Chronicles. Akasha has such an interesting backstory regarding how she became a vampire, and the vindictive relationship between Maharet and Akasha was exempt from the movie, too (although 90% of the third book is exempt from the movie, and only 1% of the second book is in it). One thing I will say is that Akasha's fate is better in the movie than in the book, IMO (she just gets her head punched off by Maharet's sister who swoops in and takes her out. Lmao).

So, now you see what we’re talking about…this movie was horrible 😂. Thank goodness you didn’t read the books are you would be livid, but you should read the books. And, Stephanie Myers is was an Anne Rice fan. She based Edward Cullen loosely off our beloved OG Emo Vamp Louis de Pointe du Lac. So, here’s a few things this version left out because too many things were left out. Spoiler’ish. This was 2 books smushed together. Obviously, they left out Lestat’s backstory. Magnus was his maker. He’d already met Marius and drank from Akasha prior to coming NOLA. The rock band knew the name Lestat because Daniel turned the interview with Louis into a book and published it. The ancient vamps were pissed and wanted Louis destroyed. It’s a crime to talk about other vampires. That’s what Lestat learned when he woke up. He read IWTV and decided to write a book (TVL) to explain the things he couldn’t tell Louis during their time together and he became a rockstar to draw the pissed off vamps to him. He’s was trying to take the heat off Louis’s back. You wouldn’t know because this movie completely left Louis out🤬. Louis was actually with Lestat at the concert. Marius was not at the concert…he had drama going on. Lestat finally let everyone kill Akasha when he realized that she wanted him to kill his peeps and that Louis would die. (She initially spared everyone that Lestat loved as well as her original fledglings). The curly red head boy/man was Armand. I don’t know where that crackhead looking Armand came from, Party City or Craig’s List 🤷🏾‍♀️. Antonio nor Assad look like book Armand, but they are beautiful and mesmerizing to watch on screen. Rashid kept us in a chokehold trying to figure out what’s up with him. Classic Armand behavior. The whole Lestat & Jessie stuff never happened. She has an interesting story, too long to get into. David is an important character. Just know whole books worth of build up with a lot of the vampire’s backstories was left out of this movie. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this after you read or listen to TVL and QOTD. I’m glad you’re back❤

Welcome back and thank you for braving this one! 😂 Was the other movie Romeo Must Die? I saw that one as well as this one when a friend dragged us out there and ranted the whole time. 😂 Akasha was the only highlight of this movie. She gave no F's. 😅 To avoid spoilers but to incorporate some things from the show.... Yes, Marius here took Magnus' role of making Lestat. He was a mentor of sorts though. In episode 2 Daniel was looking at paintings and read Marius' name to which Rashid spoke very highly of him. When Louis was naming places that they could move, he mentioned Greece to which Lestat zoned out and whispered "Sun worshippers...Those who must be kept", referencing where Marius had kept Akasha and Enkil. I believe the little curly haired one was Armand. Claudia Black was Pandora. Lestat, Jesse and Marius are SO much better in the book. TBF Akasha was weakened by Lestat while facing off with some of the strongest vampires. Maharet is the same age as Akasha and the 3rd or 4th made by Akasha. Marius was made by an elder and then began drinking from Akasha on occasion. The others were made by or drank from him. So sorry to hear about the passing of your grandmothers. It's good to decompress and do things in your own time.

I love this movie, it's my favorite vampire movie after Bram Stoker's Dracula. It got panned because when it came out people were still nostalgic for Pitt and Cruise's Interview with a Vampire and this movie had a tone different from what people were expecting. Plus this movie committed the fatal error of making Lestat a brunette instead of blond like in the books - OMG the horror!!! So now it's fashionable to bash this movie, but I love it, it's freakin awesome in my opinion. Townsend and Aaliyah are great in this movie.

So I know Akasha is the 1st Generation of Vampires and the logic behind how she couldn't burst the Ancients into flames because they're very close to the same age as Akasha herself and therefore need more effort to combust them but...come on...Surely the 1st Vampire in existence could handle a small amount of Ancients, she turned personally a group of them, you'd expect a whole army of Ancients would be needed to take her down. And the fact that she supposedly is supposed to know everything about her children, seeing them and knowing all their thoughts and yet doesn't realize the betrayal is just disappointing. It also begs the question...if Akasha knew it was too early to turn humans into Vampires when she became a Vampire why did she? Like it was just her and her King, surely she'd wait idk maybe until the year 2000 to create the first Vampire when she's far over a Millenium old to ensure no other Vampire or Group of Vampires could replace her or overthrow her or at-least wait a century or 50 years before making a whole group of Vampires close to your age and if you did kill them and re-start but no as soon as she became a Vampire she gave it to a whole group and they spread it, surely she'd have known they would be nearly equal to her strength and so in a group prove an actual threat.

Valid question. Especially since she can read all their minds. Why did she want to make other fledglings after Enkil? I honestly questioned if she did make them. Fun Fact Aaliyah played in the second Matrix movie. They filmed everything for the film. But because they were going to shoot 2&3 simultaneously they had to recast because they didn’t want the character to die. So they cast Jada P.Smith to reshoot the scenes for the second film. Woulda been CRAZY to have her be in the matrix and in a video game! 😱😂😂 I miss her so much 😢👍🏾✌🏾

NOOOOO no. This movie is not "based off the book" basically at all. They didn't even adapt the book or the story, or the characters, or anything off the book. Like the 1994 movie did, and like the AMC series is currently doing. There's literally no part of this story that's accurate to ANY of it. At all. The main driving force was to portray Lestat as "straight". Without giving out any actual spoilers, Jesse's character in the book is pretty amazing, and her storyline is genuinely an interesting read. She also ties into one of the most important themes of the story itself, and the beginning of them all. She's damn powerful too. But they stripped her of absolutely everything, and turned her into just the "arm peice" of TownStat, so that he could be "straight". Utterly insulting. But yes, in the book they don't even actually know eachother. They exchange like two words, basically. The nameless Vamps are mostly all elders, the "curly" one, was actually Armand. Then there's Pandora, Marius, Khaymen, Maharet and I think the other one is suppose to actually be Magnus. All characters you will meet between The Vampire Lestat, and Queen of the Damned, which is suppose to be covered in Seasons 3, 4, 5, 6 and possibly 7. Because two seasons might not be enough to cover ALL of QotD. One of the best parts of the book, are the story of the ancients you meet, and the Loustat moments. So basically this movie cut out ALL of what makes the book itself one of the best in the series... then they put the story and the characters in the blender and dumped it down the disposal drain. Then grabbed the wrapper from the trash, and slapped a dollar sign on it 🤷‍♀ But it's all we had at the time, so us book fans tried to love it as best we could. We were starving 😅😭 I just know Rolin and AMC will do it justice, and I for one can't wait ! Sorry for spamming, happy to see you back! You're one of my favorite reactors 😁🤗🖤

@RowensARTstudio
@RowensARTstudio Год назад
@shalayahomebodytv Definitely unfortunate. But sometimes people make "adaptions" just for a quick buck basically. They see a passionate fan base and all they see are dollar signs. But this also shows the difference between people who aren't fans and who aren't passionate about the content they're creating. That's why I have so much faith in Rolin and everyone behind the show. They're all fans, and they're passionate and invested about what they're creating. So I know, even if they do put their own spin on the story, like S1, they're gonna do it justice 😉👌 Also, love your new set up and your hair is gorgeous 🖤
@EmeraldRoseDragon

It's Marius, the movie made him Lestat’s Maker and not Magnus. I can honestly see why AR didn't want it made. How tf do you straightwash Lestat and erase Louis completely?
@RowensARTstudio
@RowensARTstudio Год назад
@EmeraldRoseDragon I know which one is Marius. There's another unamed guy there, that I'm pretty sure is suppose to be Magnus. I'll look at the cast real quick... Ahh okay, he's suppose to be Mael. Interesting.
@RowensARTstudio
@RowensARTstudio Год назад
@EmeraldRoseDragon Also, exactly!! Even when I was younger and would watch it all the time, because the two movies were all we had of the VC, basically. My Dad and I would watch it and essentially just complain and laugh and roast it the entire time. You're absolutely right, you can definitely tell why Anne was so against this one. It's pretty horrendous. And the thing is, if they had just made a random Vampire movie, and didn't touch the VC at all, they probably could've made a decent movie, as Vampire movies go... but this 🤬 Like they have needle point things from the book, but them completely change and twist the story behind it, and in doing so it makes absolutely no sense. Like the violin, having Lestat get it from just some random woman he's forced to kill on a beach, makes no sense as to why it means so much to him. The violin is Nicky, but again because they needed him to be straight, they got rid of Nicky too. The entire edition of Maharet and the Great Family just makes no sense here, because like Shalayah says, it's not fleshed out at all, it's kind of just tossed in there and makes no sense in the movie. And the list goes on and on. I could write an article about this movie. But mainly, this is what you get when people who aren't fans, who don't understand or care about the source material at all. Make an "adaption". They have no concept of what makes the actually story or the characters in it. No understanding or grasp of the heart of the book...

9 месяцев назад
The movie is nothing like the book. They changed so much and basically simplified everything. Jesse was there to basically replace Louis, as the producers didn't want any queer understones so the film would appeal to a bigger audience. So many important things were missing. It's funny as Akasha doesn't particularly care for Louis in the book and would've killed him if it weren't for Lestat's love for him. I hope they keep the scene where she reads him to filth; it always makes me laugh. Louis rarely has anyone call him out on his sh*t. Akasha isn't Egyptian, she comes from Iraq. I'm begging they cast a Middle Eastern actress for the series, as they rarely get any representation in Hollywood. I think the series will do a much better job than this damn awful film. Aaliyah was the only good thing about it, even though her accent was questionable, she's so physically stunning that it doesn't matter. I hate that they made Marius Lestat's maker in the movie, when it was Magnus. I loved your reaction!

Sorry it took so long for me to comment. This movie doesn't age well. I remember watching this on repeat when i was 13 and loving it. I still love the soundtrack but yah after reading the book this movie pales in comparison. I did forget how annoying Jesse was. To me shes even annoying in the book but shes not a main character. Oh by the way the blonde guy with barely any lines is supposed to be Armand. Lol All i say is please AMC do justice to this book. Hell I'd be fine if they need to do like 3 seasons to cover this storyline and all the characters. Some of the big crimes of this movie is not focusing on the ancients and Akasha more as well as not having Louis and Gabrielle in this at all plus got to love the bi erasure of Lestat 🙄. Anyway you did make this more entertaining. Can't wait for more reactions.

Right! I'm really hoping AMC plans to take the story all the way. I want to see Akasha and Enkil done right. I want to see backstory for the ancients, maybe a spin-off. They have enough material. I'll be there for all of it. Thanks for watching, too! Glad I could keep it entertaining 😆
