The joker purposefully switched the addresses that he gave to batman he felt like he knew he would try to save rachel as he risked his life to save her earlier in the film.
@@jakeington9999No Joker switched the addresses. When he walked out of the interrogation chamber, Gordon asked him wich one he was going after and he screamed Rachel, then the GCPD rushed to what they thought to be Harvey’s location. There was no communication between Gordon and Batman that suggests they think Joker’s lying
That, or Joker mixed up the addresses due to extreme and repetitive head trauma. I think the answer lies in whether or not he gave each ship their own detonator.
Maybe my interpretation is wrong but.... Joker believes he's an agent of chaos, since Joker switch the address, Batman would never be able to save who he prioritized more. Batman chooses the face of justice, Harvey dies, people would smoke Batman for getting more people killed. Batman chooses the normal woman, Harvey will be pushed to go down "their" level. Joker switched it to break not just the established order but to also corrupt Batman. Joker manipulates by ruination of order, he doesn't care who Batman is or even who he mingles. Same as how Joker makes the Boat chooses who dies... either one who chooses it will be a lose to established order.... Thus making the people power more powerful when they chooses to die as one, not deciding to smoke the another. Joker didn't expect that, you can see it in his face, same way how he complements Batman how he was incorruptible despite how he broke him with Rachel. But Joker had an ace which is Harvey going down to their level as Two Face. Additional for my geeky shit, Heath improvises the "their" line, it was supposed to be "down to MY level" base on the script. Just a single word elevates the characters more.... Nolan wants to highlight Harvey being a hero living long enough to become a villain, but Heath embrace Jokers character very much he knows Joker doesn't view it that way, Heath knows Joker thinks Joker and Batman was "MAD" contrast to "FREAKS" people refer to them, Joker thinks Harvey become MAD as soon as he loses Rachel, birth of a Two Face
@@thefifth4669 That's my interpretation too. Whoever they chose to save, they'd end up saving the other one. My pet theory about the boats is that he lied to them too. If someone would have hit their trigger, it would have blown up their own boat... and the people on the other boat would have been labeled as murderers for it.
Heath Ledger was truly iconic in his role as the Joker. His improvisation and passion in the character never ceases to entertain me everytime I rewatch the film. Not to mention the combination of legendary Film Director Cristopher Nolan and Legendary film score Composer Hans Zimmer. As a duo they always craft something magical and epic.
It displays his love of playing games, just a nice character nuance. There are a lot of them in this movie - His complete willingness to die to prove Harvey and later Batman is corruptible is a nice character nuance. His clinically insane mind being adept at teaching himself to be tolerant to pain is another one. Life is a dangerous game to him, but he's happily adept at it and loves it - His plans could fail, but they don't more often than not due to him being a psychological and strategic genius. And with Harvey's face and subsequent insanity, well, he just got lucky. Lucky in a weird way too as I don't think the Joker is cruel enough to attempt that, to prove his point ("I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve"). That's another thing I love about the film - Harvey's transformation doesn't feel out of leftfield or too unlikely to occur, as the movie establishes that Harvey's mass prosecution is very lucky - The ups and down in luck makes everything feel natural, Gordon and Harvey got lucky and then suffered some mighty bad luck. Harvey's death, which is something Gordon and Batman wouldn't cause, also provides them with some mighty good luck in a weird way.
Yes, Joker proved that even Batman can be selfish. Batman always talks about choosing justice over anything but by choosing Rachel, he kinda broke his code of choosing justice always. It's properly explained in a video of the Canadian Lad
12:10 When Morgan Freeman completed his sentence said “..like a submarine” the joke is that Bruce was gonna say just like a “bat” because its the same concept as echolocation; which bats use to find their surroundings in the dark using sound waves.
Yeah bugs me that everyone misses this joke. It's a cerebral movie, and people don't take the time to soak in it. My favourite joke in the entire film though still has to be the firetruck blocking the route. It's on fire. Because it's a fire truck. Love the Joker's messed up sense of humour. Embarrassed me that I alone laughed out loud in the theater during this dark, quiet, tense moment. Take care three PSix
@@wren7195 yeah, people don't usually look for what are sometimes called "anti-jokes" like the Dew Drop Motel from From Dusk Till Dawn, instead of the Dew Drop Inn("Do drop in!"). Probably the most famous and recognizable one being Biff's "Make like a tree...and get outta here!" from Back to the Future.
Rachel kept looking away because she had never seen health ledger with the joker makeup up on yet so she was looking around to get the directors help. That fear in her eyes was genuiene. And the joker keeps licking his lips because the wetness from his tongue keeps the prosthetic scars on his face. Because they kept falling off before
I don't know where you heard that but come on!! do you really think that an ADULT ACTRESS who knows she's going to see a CLOWN is going to get scared and stop acting according to the script?? SURE BRO...
@@raghochadman It may have be they did, and/or intended to make the paint and prosthetics a little "cleaner" while still looking messy, but Heath Ledger insisted on applying his own makeup
This film is incredible and I highly encourage you watch the BTS of it. And to clear up something you were confused on; Joker lied to Batman and switched who was at which address because he knew Batman would choose Rachel
I agree and disagree...believe he was playing into the "Never start with head the victim gets all fuzzy...batman hits jokers head on the glass asks a question then punches him and then switches the addresses but that being said I can offer no evidence to counter your point and therefore this is merely an opinion
@@ryanlacey7315im pretty sure joker said "you get to pick who dies" or something like that. Batman said Rachael and Rachael died because batman didn't think abt the wording
17:28 the reason she's moving her head is because she's legit scared😂😂😂 that was an improvised scene and she was basically looking at the director for help😂😂😂 and this was the first time she saw him in full make up
The Dark Knight is amongst some of my favorite movies of all time. One of Christopher Nolan's best works, if not his best. So glad you watched it, you should also watch some other Christopher Nolan films, all of them are masterpieces.
The Nolan trilogy was so good because it was so connected to the real world. Other superhero movies you know it’s just a superhero movie and disconnected from our reality, but these movies feel so real.
The last two Cap movies actually feel similar in their realism tone, but still, superpowers existing still changes the feel to a distinct degree - With the Nolan Batman movies, it feels like they could occur in our world.
@@realmetatron The Dark Knight series didn't make the choice to put things in Gotham, they're just adapting a comic book property loyally. Plus, it's just a city name, it makes no difference regarding a realism tone.
The Joker telling the story of his scars differently is a clever nod to the Joker from the comics basically not remembering how he became the Joker, and that he kinda prefers it that way too. Likes it to be multiple choice.
One cool thing about this movie, it ties the characters to the comics in a way that works for the film, but also references the comics. The Joker's stories display his love of playing games, but the overall narrative shows that his origins are completely unknown like in the comics, while the film's narrative shows his character's willingness to get completely lost in this beast and creature, the priorities of said creature being all that matters to his clinically insane mind. A man in court attempts to shoot Harvey in the face, which references the acid thrown in his face by a man in court in the comics - the origin of him becoming Two Face, but in the film's narrative, it displays the passion of his psyche via his "do or die" attitude, the passion that caused him to refuse the pain medication for the agonising pain he was in, while desiring to feel the pain of failing Rachel.
Imo Heath ledger (Joker) did The Best character in fiction. Definitely The Greatest antagonist we seen up to today, this performance of ledger is Way beyond masterclass.
The Joker’s “tick” with his tongue was due to the prosthetics they used on his face. The prosthetics kept coming loose when he talked so the tongue motion helped keep them on and turned into a nice tick for him. Alfred and Rachel’s reaction to first seeing the Joker was real because they hadn’t seen him in makeup before that seen. When saving Harvey & Rachel the Joker purposefully gave the wrong address cause he knew who Batman would go for after the way he saved her at the apartment. My top three Joker’s in no real order is Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. They really brought the character to life. Jared Leto’s Joker is good but more of a mob boss good and not a supervillain good. If you get a chance look up how they did Harvey’s Two-Face makeup. It’s amazing how they did it.
Agreed. Marvel make Great movies, some legendary like infinity War, Endgame And Winter soldier the Greatest Ones but the realism in this right here it's what i truly love Best ledger simply made The Best performance of the cinema period.
I think this movies Two Face could have been made a bit better as a character because Two Face as a character is never in control of his own mind but in this movie he is fully in control. The look is great but I wish we had more screen time with him
I wish he wasn't killed off, but I disagree. He's not fully in-control, not after the joker gave him that speech. I will argue that his voice is more gravelly and shit when he's "two-face", but his normal speaking voice has "Harvey". You hear it ever so slightly when he shoot's Maroni's driver and knocks out the cop protecting Jim's family.
Easily One of The Best movies Ever fuckin made. Imo top 5. Definitely The Greatest superhero movie in existence, That's for sure. Ledger is beyond legendary, What he did in this is unmatched. Rip The Goat
This trilogy is the Best of all time. And The Dark Knight is evidently The Best one among The 3. Not Only the Best Batman movie but also The Best superhero movie as well. Heath Ledger Just Nailed in This. Greatest acting in all fiction Imo.
There's nothing controversial about suggesting TDK is the best of the trilogy, IT IS. I'm almost positive that I've only seen "Begins" and "TDKR" once since they were first released.
Arguably The Greatest movie of all Time. It reunites Batman The Greatest superhero Ever with The Greatest Villain Ever Ledger The Joker Nailed It in This, Best acting in Whole fiction we can all agree with no doubt
When you get to The Justice League, there are two versions. There are clear differences. The story is basically the same but, the portrayal of the characters are drastically different. I prefer the second movie by Zack Snyder (completing his original work) compared to the first which he started but had to leave due to a family emergency. The first one was changed and completed by Joss Whedon. The Zack Snyder Cut is longer but in my opinion, better, not only for the full story but the characters are portrayed more competent and confident in their abilities.
The story being the same isn’t exactly true some plot beats yes but the motivations are totally different, things play out differently too, I still can’t beloved that’s what we could have had all along instead of the joss cut
So true. It's amazing how bad the first one was and how good Snyder's was. Personally I wasn't a fan of superman and BvS so wasn't really thinking it would be as good as I found it to be.
The motivations and characters of Cyborg and Steppenwolf are like night and day in the two versions. Cyborg went from a character who couldn't care less about in the first version, to being the most character in the whole movie in the 2nd version.
That old guy Joker said reminded him of his father was portrayed by Senator Patrick Leahy, a massive Batman fan who has had cameos in a lot of dc movies
yo don just wanted to say thanks for not reacting to dark knight returns when you've seen it already, good to know that you're honest about your reactions. much love bro
17:00 the thing is crazy is that when joker grabed racheal at the party it wasnt in the script so she had no idea what was going on when he held a knife to her face
I was not a fan of comic books or superhero's in general but my kid said mum you need to watch Heath Ledger as the Joker.Being an Aussie myself I watched it, So glad I did..His acting in this was so special, no wonder he won the oscar for it..I was just wondering who do you think would win in a fist fight betwen Batman or John Wick??
Ledger doing The Joker Will forever be The Best Villain Ever created out There, including any movie, anime, tv show, Anything You name It. This performance no One Cant beat. Thanks Ledger for this Masterpiece. Rip The Goat
I genuinely want Don to watch Green Lantern just for shits and gigs. That would be an interesting reaction. He can understand why Ryan Reynolds hates that movie.
Ledger was a Great actor yes , Even tho he would Never be in the list of the Greatest actors of all Time, He did The Best character in fiction period. This performance is a perfection. It's a Masterpiece completely. Rip Ledger you'll always be remembered
The whole thing with the Joker doing the whole "Hit me!" thing, laughing while Batman was beating the crap out of him, and laughing as he fell to his death, is because he knows Batman's one rule is he doesn't kill. So if he gets Batman to kill him, he's won. He is quite literally that insane. Everything he does, the suffering he spreads and the joy he takes in it, it's all to try to piss Batman off enough to kill him, and thus break his rule.
The little lip licking thing Ledger kept doing was to keep the scar prosthetics in place at the corner of his mouth. It also created a delightfully disturbing and creepy mannerism for the Joker to unsettle us even more :)
Glad you reacted to this one, this movie is fantastic and easily rewatchable even after all of these years! The only reason that I could never give this movie a perfect score is to do the Rachel replacement, Maggie Gyllenhaal, not that the character wasn't written well but I believe that it was just her portrayal of Rachel that I just couldn't get around. Other than that, I give this movie my highest possible rating without hitting a full 10 as every other part of the movie was nearly flawless.
I've seen this movie numerous times... Heath and his Joker performance is just out of this world. Even if you know what's going to happen he still captures your attention 150%. It is god-like... He makes the film so damn good. Some men just want to see the world burn!
Dc movies you should watch Man of steel Batman v superman ultimate edition Wonder woman Zack snyders justice league Aquaman Shazam The suicide squad Maybe the flash the movie is pretty bad Blue beetle Joker The batman with robert pattinson You can watch birds of prey if u want it's alright Skip suicide squad 2016 and justice league 2017
Did you know that At 12:20 in the video when joker i grabing ratchel, it wasnt part of the script, you can se her looking despretly at the producers and managers for help but they filmed along, and kept it in the movie, the same as in the joker walking away from the exploding hospital scenes, some of the false bombs didnt blow up so Heat Ledgers/jokers reaction isnt part of the script, but again it was so good that they kept it in the movie. Rip Heat Ledger, one of the best joker actors, in the world.
This is called the dark knight trilogy. This is probably the best Joker live action in my opinion. But this has a lot of comic book references but also its own.
if you dind't know, the scene when joker crashes the party and sticks the blade in rachel's mouth, that was improv on heaths part. It wasn't in the script for him to do that as you can see rachel look over toward the director in that scene and the lip licking heath did as the joker he said he did because it helped him stay in character which did more for his performance as well
It's actually a credit to her for not wigging out completely and breaking character cuz then it would have ruined the scene and they'd never get that reaction from her again.
The Joker licking his lips during his speech was caused by the fact that he had silicone scars on his face that often peeled off. The director said that this "tic" fit the character's characteristics and left it as it was
"If [Harvey] survives, he's going to be that face..." you... had no idea how right that much of the statement was XD Unfortunately, the bit that was wrong was what that "face" would do...
Fun fact, that video with Brian and The Joker was actually directed by Heath Ledger himself. Heath was a method actor, so stuff like that was how he got into the role. And next you should finish this trilogy with The Dark Knight Returns.
“The Batman” is a separate film completely unrelated to this universe. Also I would recommend watching the Dark Knight Rises again after knowing all of this context.
Fun Fact: When the joker blows up the hospital the switch was actually misfunctioning but he kept acting until it went off, so he genuinlly got scared xd.
I thought this too but after looking it up, it's a very widely believed myth. The pause was planned but Heath Ledgers reaction when he jumps very well could have been genuine.
I would recommend you to watch the 2 movies that Tim Burton made on the '80/'90. This movie IS a masterpiece. Joker steals the movie every time he appears.
It wasnt his man the guy in the first movie ,she told him he did not want anything to do wirh him other than work, itwas her boss and she always referred to him as her boss, and the court scene when the guys pulls out a gun , it alwas carbon fiber thats how he got it in
She kept moving her head in the party scene because it wasn’t in the script for Heath Ledger to grab her, it was improvised, she was looking around to the directors to see if that was part of the scene.
This is one of my favourite movies of all time, make it even better considering I'm from Hong Kong and seeing it in a western movie like this is really cool
In the previous film, Rachel says about the missing D.A. that "I should probably start looking at the bottom of the river," implying that she's pretty sure the mob killed him. Also, I don't think they were officially a romantic couple and you're probably reading too much into it.
Was going to say this, too. He was her BUSINESS "partner," not her romantic "partner." I really like Don, but sometimes he takes off pretty fast without looking where he's actually going.
@@wren7195 I think there is one scene in Batman Begins where it's implied the current DA is attracted to her and she rebuffs him. It's a pretty subtle scene tho.
@@anthonyanderson9303 I'm quite sure you're correct, but still drives home the point that she sees him solely as her work partner. Take care Anthony, good to talk with you
he did go for rachel but joker played him and swapped the address he gave him. Thats why batman pauses for sec when he walks into the room and sees harvey cause he realized that moment
