from what I understand the plot is about classism. The lower class and the upper class. The lower class finally revolting against the upper class and talking their "place in the sun".

isn't that the ideology of the far left/marxism/communism? working class overthrowing the upper class?

The ending is him accepting. Like, he put on his mask to symbolize that he recognizes everyone wears a mask. Just like his mother has worn one her whole life. She's not really who she says she is. And he accepts that and accepts her.

But really she is. She’s the part of the two that had the soul and the control. The people below were bound by what those up above did because the above people had the soul. But Red didn’t have a soul. That’s why she was drawn where Adalaide went. It’s also why when she started to dance so did Red. She had no choice because she wasn’t the one with the soul. The experiment worked but years after it was abandoned. Finally they had someone that could control the one up above ground. That’s just my take tho! 🤷🏾‍♂️👍🏾✌🏾

When you watch it a second time you definitely see so many more things that are subtext too. When I saw it this time I thought that that Red's kids have a sort of human touch to them compared to the white family's clones who just kill brutally like animals. They also seem smarter because one of their parents are from above ground. In the same way Adalaide's kids are more prone to violence. They just seem to jump into violence. Its not often you see the protagonists easily kill in horror movies.

And Adelaide's son is so eccentric for a boy his age--using strange vocabulary (a certain OTHER word instead of just another curse word), playing with fire, and running around in a mask outside of Halloween. He totally has some Tethered in him.

Looking back on this movie I think once fake Adelaide realized that the real Adelaide would be paying her a visit, she tried to set a foundation of alleged ""victimhood" by partially telling her husband about the carnival event as a way to keep him on her side. Which was pointless because Gabe wasn't really listening & they were all too busy fighting for their lives

Got to love how each of the "Doppelgangers" are the complete opposite from their counter-parts - The dad is funny and happy, sarcastic - while his clone is angry (From his constant facial expression) and aggressive - The Daughters clone has no beauty features or make-up when the original was all about beauty - The Son's clone never spoke/grunt while the original spoke a lot.

Actually I believe the son is actually the clone that got switched out with the original son. When they were at the beach in the beginning, the son who spoke said he was making tunnels in the said instead of sand castles. My take on the movie is that it's a critique of america's treatment of "otherness". The movie really makes you think, "who is really the villain here?" as evidenced by adelaide as the clone being in disguise among regular people and taking red's place, and adelaide's violence towards red and the tethered. I remember seeing someone say that the title "Us" is a double entendre; "us" meaning the clones are us, and "U.S" as a reference to red's line of "we are americans"; we may treat others as aliens on our own turf (i.e., the tethered) but they're technically just fellow americans

A story that broadens and is layered underneath, but the centered of this is us. Humanity. the good and the bad. The tethered being the inner self, our desires, and talents courageous that are forced to stay within. the original the control factor limited. similar and very distinct. overall US is a talk about!!

Loving the lights for the environment and as always the reaction! What fascinates me about this movie was that more than scare I felt very uncomfortable the whole time and that was actually more stressful than fear. The camera just stays still a lot of times let us with the scene, and the character, and challenge us the guess what really is happening. After watching it, I obseded in watching analysis about it, and from the social "undertone" about the social classes to the more psychological takes, I love that fact that is made in a way we can understand the general story but also sit a and discuss for hours and in many different ways what it wants to tell us. I really liked the movie. From the beginning it had my full attention which doesn't happen often lately. I have many questions about the movie though. How did they all get the jumpsuits and the scissors. Why the entrance is in the house of mirrors,unlocked at that. What happens to the "clone" when the "original" moves somewhere else or dies. Do they "magically" appear at the destination? How did they survived all these years there? How do they get the clothes? If they mimick their "original" version how did they escape from the underground. Or they could escape all along but they needed someone "thinking" to do that? I know it's all probably just metaphor and I shouldn't look for explanation of details but i can't help it 😆 Still a great movie

I think the movie points to how we live our lives and pay little attention to the shadow aspects of ourselves. Dad is suppressing anger. The mother is suppressing fear and loneliness. They are living lives that don't feel good to the shadow (or inner child) so the trauma gets deeper and continues to bubble under the surface. Now they have to reckon with it.

So, there are pop culture references in this film. As a matter of fact, this film is loaded with those references. 1. THE LOST BOYS was referenced as the film being made on the other side of Santa Cruz in 1986. 2. MICHAEL JACKSON'S THRILLER. Young Adelaide's T-shirt as well as Red's sinister smile at the end of the film. 3. HANDS ACROSS AMERICA was referenced in the 80's commercial as well as the tethered holding hands. 4. THE GOONIES was referenced with the "It's our time up here" speech from this film. 5. THE SHINING was referenced with the twins. 6. ALICE IN WONDERLAND was referenced with the whole white rabbit motif as well as the underground environment. 7. HOME ALONE 8. THE DUALING DANCE. 9. A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. The one hand gloves (although thought of to be a reference to Michael Jackson) was actually a reference to Freddy Krueger. 10. The Biblical scripture JEREMIAH 11:11 was referenced throughout the film especially on the beachgoer's sign. 11. "I GOT 5 ON IT" by the Luniz is played while the family is traveling to Santa Cruz. It's also referenced in the music score when Red and Adelaide are fighting. 12. C.H.U.D. was referenced at the beginning of the film. Pay attention to the VHS tapes on the shelf. Also, the tethered dwelling underground. C.H.U.D. is the acronym for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers.

This based on his movement throughout the movie, not knowing how to do this mysterious magic trick, but his tethered version def knew the trick. I read his putting the mask on as hiding. He did it whenever he was scared. He put it on when he was in the closet with his double and he had no intention of killing him then. He was just scared. He also had some deeper understanding of the tethered. He had that control over his double that no one else did, so I think he was a more intuitive person. I don't know if it was purposeful or if Jordan Peele just likes 80s punk music, but on multiple occasions you see t-shirts for the album My War by the band Black Flag. That song begins with the lines, "My war! You're one of them! You said that you're my friend, but you're one of them!" The film also has the feel of a Brian De Palma thriller, with its split-diopter shots, intercutting a murder with a ballet, and focus on doppelgangers, all of which have appeared in De Palma's films, sometimes frequently.

Ninetail is so smart. I feel like if you react to slasher movies like Scream. He would've known behind the mask in the mid of the movie. 😳😂😂

I loved the movie but why would the government stick the clones under an amusement park inside a funhouse?
@kima_95
@kima_95 3 года назад
I would assume because it's supposedly an unassuming location, both underground and above ground. If I'm not mistaken it seemed more like a limited time carnival that you have to catch in your town before it leaves for the average person to go to, making it only publically open at specific times of the year. This would mean it functions under the guise of normalacy, obsolving the need for questioning and throwing around the extra funding for secrecy and security that would otherwise make the experiment an obvious target. Additionally it's a generally safe area because most people choose to follow laws against trespassing and it doesn't need to be operated/supervised daily because outside of the fair/pier carnival it's likely a locked up building forgotten until needed. Easily assessible, hidden, and controlled in theory.

It was crazy the way everything was adding up at the end. The way she was off beat when snapping her fingers to the song. The way she would stutter when thinking of the incident. The way she was moaning and making weird sounds throughout the movie. And the way she was staying to convince the son that "it was her" as yes she I his mom but not who she says she is.

Yeah their outfits ate cool. Lots of people were saying they were dressing up as doppelganger for Halloween lol. The red jumpsuits represent what they wear in prison. That's most dangerous inmates if you killed someone. That's kind of like these people. They represent the oppressed cause not all in jail are guilty. So Jordan put that commentary in this. He has commentary in each movie. Heard the tell be some in candy man coming out in a bit this year. I can't wait lol.

That's social commentary on how we live. For us to live our luxury lives with all our stuff there has to be others that live in suffering and with out anything we have. Title us is referring to us but also us as in united states lol. How America has been built over the decades is touched on in this movie with the doppelganger and normal people ANF the above ground and under ground lol. So many layers lol.

Have been really enjoying your reactions. I 100% recommend The Exorcist (Scariest movie ever made), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Jack Nicholson in a lunatic asylum - what more do I need to say? Won just about every single Oscar that year.), Children of Men (A masterclass in direction, acting, writing, camerawork & editing), Predestination (The ultimate mindfuck movie) and The China Syndrome (Has a 7 minute sequence in which there is absolute suspension of disbelief and heart-pounding you feel like you are inside the movie). Trust me on these.

Exorcist is a great film, but I never found it that scary. It's really intense and transgressive, but I guess you have to either be Catholic or a parent to find it actually scary.

This is about imposter syndrome. This is about those of us that made it out of the awful, terrible trap of the hood but never felt like we deserved to actually be out...like it's a fluke. Like the hood is out there waiting to take us back and the fact that we made it out is just a trick, or a mistake. I think about it every day, how I don't actually deserve the soft and cushy life I live and that at any moment that shit will get taken from me and I'll be gone back to where i never want to go back.

Interesting perspectives in the comments. It makes me think. Lol. I see US and Get Out as a part of the same multiverse. Even Nope seems to me to be a part of it. Us for me was an observation of someone trying to gain control. Our not controlling being born into our situation but trying to control the outcomes through life experiences. Get out was similar for me except it observes the perspective of said external forces. Nope appears to be the result of having control but not truly understanding or respecting how what you control reacts. Or maybe I'm old and my perspectives are a result of my opinions of my own traumas 🤣🤣

For us to get out shirts and shoes and stuff there has to be someone out there making all that in probably less than desirable means. Were like the normal people and they're like the doppelganger. Plus the social class. You got rich people working class and poor . Definitely class commentary in this lol.
