First Wild Camp In The OEX Jackal 3 & combining It With A 3x3 Tarp In Winter Conditions | Moorland

I head out on a local hike over a stunning Moorland to reach a beautiful coppice woodland where I would wild camp for the evening.
Setting off quite late in the afternoon the daylight soon changed to dusk as we eventually got to camp. Scrambling up and a long these Moorland paths isn't an easy feet with a decent weight on you back. After the packs came off we started work preparing camp.
having only taken one tent (OEX Jackal 3) and a tarp we came up with a configuration that suited our needs for the evening. As it had started to rain slightly getting under shelter was most welcome.
Soon after setting up the mist rolled in and pretty much stayed with us for the remainder of the night. At points you couldn't see much in front of you, it turned the Moorland into a very eerie place.
After collecting alot of small sticks and broken off branches I began to get the Kelly Kettle on the go for a well earned brew. Using the flint and steel along side char cloth I managed to get the fire gojng through a bundle of dead ferns. After coffee I swapped out the Kettle for the cookware that came with it.
The evening went great, lovely food, top company and even a horror film when we retired to the tent, what a laugh!
The morning was grey and cold but not too bad at all. cranking back up the fire we cooked what was meant to be the rest of our food for the evening which we were too full to have. you can't beat a burger first think in the morning haha.

Looked like you had a very cosy night with your Pal Ant 😉 That hot chocolate bit was awesome to watch ! My first and only attempt at a hammock camp up to now, I should have gone for the diamond tarp formation as a torrential downpour came in sideways and soaked my sleeping bag ! Attempt no 2 coming very soon ! Fab video Ant, cheers Pal !😃

Cracking camp Ant/Leon. Tent looks great. There was some good food being cooked again and the scene with the coffee/chocolate stick was hilarious. Wouldn’t change anything about my first wild camp, it was so memorable and went really well. A skill I would like to master is learning to tie useful knots and, more importantly, remembering how to tie useful knots 😂

Hi Joe mate, thank you buddy! Yeah tent is well impressive mate. I'll never go back yo "normal" hot dogs again now lol. Haha yeah the hot chocolate scene was so bloody funny I had to leave it in mate. Knots are a must for sure Joe, good call there pal and I'm the same, can never remember them haha. Thanks so much for the watch and your comment dude

Nice one lads - epic camp that had it all - good location, good mates, great tents, great food and bags of atmosphere. Nice one re the tent Leon - superb bit of kit there and some great cooking Ant ! Loved the mist - I know it gets a right spooky feel there - and I bet the black shuck was padding about the moorland plateau - looking for unwary and intoxicated campers to devour - Great stuff lads - ATB

Couple of massive backpacks but if you want that cordon blue food you need to pack the gear with you and it looked and sounded like you have a real good laugh cooking it up LOL!!. After that bottle of wine that breakfast looked nice to soak up the final alcohol - what a lovely sizzle! I lost my big toe nail on Ben Nevis about 30 years ago, not nice and my first ever wildcamp when real well to be honest, not a breath of wind and a perfect sunrise, so I would change nothing, just want every one to be exactly like that! Cheers Alan

Haha that's right Alan mate, Leon's pack was definitely heavier than mine that's for sure pal. Yeah we had good fun cooking it all mate. Haha yeah nothing like a good burger first thing in the morning after veeing on the wine. Think I'm turning in to Elvis hahaha. Yeah it's bloody painful isn't it. I stubbed it again this morning at work and it's now bloody killing again. Thanks pal as always for watching 👍

Well done Ant, luxury, good food and company in the middle of nowhere, hope you slept well. I agree that good footwear and light kit is crucial. Bow drill seems impossible in damp northern Scotland, but birch and flint does seem a skill that I would like to perfect. All the best mate. Harry

I think I've said it before, but that really is a cracking spot for a camp, just up my street beside the stream. My first wildcamp was on a mountain in Wales in September 1968, I'm pretty sure being potty trained would be my 'change' on that one...I suspect my mother would agree too🤣😂 Not sure I'll ever master anything, or feel I've mastered it, there is always room for improvement.
