On a glorious British summers day, what could be nicer than some fish and chips on the beach ?
Today we head to Lyme Regis, a lovely little seaside town, and try out Herbie's, a fish and chip shop on the seafront. It's a popular little joint, but is it any good ?

What would be your chip shop "go to" ? I'm a fan of pie and chips, but that's more of a winter thing I think...

@@GreenoEats spam and cheese fritter or battered black puddings

Spam and cheese fritter sounds interesting, kind of like a really unhealthy British take on a cordon bleu! Battered blakc pudding sounds amazing, but unlikely to find that in the south of England anywhere really. Have you ever tried battered cod roe? That's making a bit of a resurgence in my neck of the woods.

Oh my goodness! We used to spend a week, day-tripping to Lyme, for Dad's Summer holiday (we call it that, but as he had to be available to answer the phone EVERY night, 365/365, for agricultural emergencies it was just a few hours respite each day for a week!) I wonder whether Herbies took the place of a wet fish shop that was there last time I went to Lyme (early to mid 90's) That was owned and run by the family of one of the mackerel boat skippers. Where their hut is, to the right used to be Mrs Symonds old fashioned sweets (her son had a similar set-up with Anderton and Rowlands Fairground - fabulous wasp-filled candy floss and really good tooth-shattering toffee apples!) and beyond her was an ice cream/cold drinks stall. There was a small cafe garden a little further along and it ended with a kiosk that sold the very best soft-serve ice cream you could wish for! (The Aboyne Cafe and ice cream kiosk, where the ice cream was made freshly each day, from 100% Dorset cream) SOOOOO many memories. Sandwiches full of sand, wasps doing kamakazee dives, freshly caught fish hanging on strings over the backs of deck chairs and the sickly smell of a dozen different types of sun tan oil and lotion! BLISS! Nice to see the old second-hand bookshop is still there in that back street! Just wish you'd walked the Cobb wall and shown the mackerel boats - no idea if the old wooden ones still exist. Our favourite was called Anna, the skipper was Mr Haynes. Then when he retired, we'd go out on the Skylark, owned by the Herbert family who later opened the fish stall. Bet you didn't expect to evoke such memories or be bored by it like this! Thanks, truly. A breath of Dorset air!

So nice to hear about your memories of the place ! I do plan to head back down to Lyme at some point, probably likely to be towards the end of the summer with my current schedule, but maybe I can sneak it in earlier - if I do I'll head down the Cobb and get some footage there too :-)

@@GreenoEats you'll be making an old woman very happy! It was Dad's "happy place" and so has a deep significance to me. So many memories made on that stretch of sand.

Hey Robbie, thanks so much for checking the content, and your kind words, much appreciated!! So you're in Adelaide huh, I hear that is a great place to live - isn't it always highly ranked in those polls about the best places to live in the world? Sounds a bit like Dorset where I am based :-) I hope you continue to enjoy my upcoming videos.

Hi Christian, yeah Lyme Regis is nice isn’t it. I don’t go that often because I live nearer to Weymouth, Swanage, Lulworth Cove etc. but it’s always a treat to go over there.

Scrappy chips are the best! We spent a few days in Lyme Regis pre COVID, cracking spot. Tell me, have you had a rissole before? It’s a proper Welsh chip shop item!

A man of my build, who lived for about 12 yrs in South Wales…. I may have partaken in a rissole or two! Pretty good aren’t they. As for the scrappy chips, they’re not for me, I like a nice chunky chip, nice and fluffy on the inside, yum!

I've not been there, will have to give it a try! The best food place I found so far in Lyme was the Whole Hog, you should definitely check that out next time you are in the area 🙂
