Like a lot of hobbies fishkeeping can easily became very silly money if you let it. Sometimes its nice to remember that even the very cheapest fish can bring you just as must joy as the most expensive. These cheap and cheerful aquarium fish are easy to keep, cheap to buy and for the most part easy to find as well.
My favourite fishy stuff! (yes these are affiliate links :) )
Lights
Nicrew Classic LED - amzn.to/3fG3Uv6 - Traditional led light that's got a nice high output in a white/cool colour range. Makes plants look extra green.
Nicrew SKY - amzn.to/3Ktn45U - really nice light for natural looking tanks, also the one I use for filming.
Filters
Pat Mini - amzn.to/3fE1u0k - popular for a reason, just a superb little filter thats great for shrimp tanks and fish alike.
ASAP - amzn.to/3nBuytp - the old favourite and the one i return to most frequently.
Air Pump
AP-3 Kit : amzn.to/34UMA3q - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me.
Tanks
Scaper 45 - amzn.to/3KBxG2H - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike.
My filming stuff
Camera - Cannon 200D - amzn.to/354OLlc - nice camera, easy to use.
BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - amzn.to/3GLXDdj - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators.
Lil' tripod - amzn.to/355WmQs - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor.

Newly subbed, I like how in depth you know these fish and are not repeating a lot of cookie cutter stuff I see from other RU-vidrs, one example, is when you say a fish can reach a certain size but in your experience you never actually see them get that large

I'd never even heard of rosy red minnows - and definitely never seen them for sale. Thanks, i'll keep an eye out for them from now on :)

@@tinymenagerie Rosies are super common in the States, even in tackle shops as bait. Incredibly hardy, a pinky/peachy colour, and small size. Very much a 'poor man's White Cloud', they also breed readily. Awesome little guys for planter ponds outdoors.

Very lovely video about some very lovely fish, was an absolute delight to see these little beauties out and about in your tank (such a treat to see zebra danios, an often overlooked fish, living in such an environment!), and I love how underrated a lot of these fish are! They’re not species that people talk about too often (especially not black neon and glowlight tetras, most people only care about the neon or cardinal tetras), so it’s nice to see them all getting the attention they deserve!^^

cherry barbs are delightful fish. i have an all girls group of 5 in my 125 liter coldwater river tank [ which i got for free] that are quite peaceful and stocky and add some contrast to the tank. a mix of 3 zebras and 2 leopard danios also feature in this tank [ with one of the biggest leopards being known as hungry fatfish] and they go really well together. the rest of the stocking includes 6 vietnamese minnows with crooked spines 4 Hawaiian variatus 6 glowlight danios 3 wild type peppered cories 1 longfin peppered cory 1 stiphodon goby 1 panda garra 1 tiny albino hoplo growing out 4-5 nerite snails [ zebra and king koopa nerites] and some trumpet, bladder and blue ramshorn snails

least rasboras/exclamation point rasboras were by far the cheapest fish I could find. I really want to get a small group for my betta biotope, but they're rarely in stock. When they are though, they cost only 2.55 candian dollars or 1.50 pounds each! I don't think there's another nano fish with such good value

kuhli loaches are terribly underrated. i have 6 beefy pangio cuneovirgata in a 60 liter that were sold cheaply as pangio sem incta. good thing about the cuneovirgata is the fact that they have all the perks of regular kuhlis but are are only 2 inches at full size and can live in a comparatively small tank. only thing is that i almost never see them. also just a heads up that peppers can get monstrous in size after many years. i have seen specimens pushing 3 inches that are built like tanks [ and i have also seen a group of albino bronze cories that were a similar size and had bellies so big they looked like ping pong balls]

I was happy to come across the salt and pepper corys at the store which max about 1&1/4' -1 & 1/2' a few days ago. Was there for more glowlight tetras; alas sold out along with every local store. I braved asking the most beginner sounding question ( considering general and species specific knowledge I have )after asking if the man helping me had knowledge of the fish in question he was honestly said maybe and i appreciate that rather than "of course what can i bag for you" 😂 ...they had albino glowlight tetras, being species specific to school I wanted to know if my 2 would school with the albinos. He said they will and also if i was uncertain they get the shipments on Tuesdays (the next day, of course 😂) impressed again he wasn't pushing a sale I got 5. quarantine camping with the med trio per co op aquarium so I placed my 2 lone soldiers in with them. They found each other fast after exploring the temporary new environment. 😊
@amazingaquaticsandexotics3030
@@ItsLaurenE great to hear. the habrosus cories are the only dwarf type of cory i have yet to keep. currently have 2 pygmies and 1 hastatus [ remainders from a bigger group] and 1 dinky mystery cory which i got for free [ likely corydoras nanus]

Wow, I've been a fan of your channel for a few months now, so I'm familiar with your shrimp culling video, and I must say the shrimp I see in this video are absolutely beautiful in coloration. I finally got my shrimp tank aged and I got yellow neocaridina and really love them, though most of mine are juveniles and some aren't as pigmented as I would like. I don't know if any will even be close to the quality you're showing here. Thanks for your videos, and I love your narration.

Both are perfectly fine with adult shrimp, but both will definitely eat any shrimplets they find.

Hello, madam, in order to prepare green water, do we add fertilizer to the fish tank and leave it for a week under the light, or do we need other materials?? Thank you. Please reply.
@tinymenagerie
@tinymenagerie Год назад
Hello. you should add the fertilizer first so the algae has nutrients to grow on. But it does also depend on where you are getting your water - if your struggling to get algae to grow at all, don't use tap water as this can be heavily treated with chemicals which will kill off all the algae. Try using some natural water from a pond or stream, any natural water that will have algae in it - just a thought.

An automatic, solar system to heat water is expensive but is required for cold geographical zones where you want to keep tropical fish... The financial crisis will deepen only... We may be forced to put some hobbies aside and rise goats :P

Cherry Barb, Zebra Danio, and Pepper Corydoras are definitely my favorite on the list!! (I find the Kribensis Cichlid and Ram Cichlid to be rather cheap Fish that have a Good lifespan, and can go in a 20 gallon as a centerpiece Fish!!) ❤️🤍🤎💙
