For this latest episode we’re on the saltwater theme, but doing something a little different, as we head to into Suffolk and to Southwold, to fish the River Blyth!
Having spent a fair bit of time in Southwold we were always curious of the river and the fish, if any, that might live there! So armed with some fresh lugworm and small hooks we headed down early morning to see if we could put a few fish on camera.
To find out a exactly how we got on and if the river did indeed hold any fish, then watch the latest episode from the waters edge…
As usual we hope you enjoy it and any feedback is always much appreciated.

I've fished a few small saltwater rivers and i normally use the small harbour ragworm that you find in the mud and a feeder rod with 2 size 10 hooks on a flapper rig with 1-2oz lead depending on the flow and i normally end up getting a fish a chuck, mainly small flatties and the odd whiting,rockling and schoolies, give it a go i'm sure you'll bag up.

You can use some floating beads Peter. I'm dubious if they completely pop your baits up in the tide, but a bit of buoyancy must make it harder for the crabs to get hold of!

Do you need a rod license /permit to fish there, our local estuary requires both licenses to fish it as there is a chance of catching coarse fish 🤔
@davefloyd9443
@davefloyd9443 4 года назад
That's odd, you are legally allowed to fish up to the high water mark, if you look carefully at an OS map their are blue lines showing tidal limits. The only problem you have is access across the land adjacent to the shore but you can walk along the shoreline between the high and low water mark to your hearts content. (As long as it is not physically impossible, eg mud obvs.) You can kayak fish right upstream to the tidal limit.
@petechapman7821
@petechapman7821 4 года назад
What do you mean both? You need a license for freshwater fish but not for sea fish so there is really only one licence? Unless fishing for sea trout and salmon of course
@davefloyd9443
@davefloyd9443 4 года назад
@@petechapman7821 Exactly, if the water you fish is below the tidal limit then its legally, "The Sea". As you say unless using methods only suitable for Salmon or Trout then you need no licences to shore fish in the sea. Whatever you catch should be returned....

@Jason-im3pz

Probably the type of reel he uses. With those multiplier reels, you have to level out the line with your thumb. If they get one sided or spooled messily they don't work well
@FromTheWatersEdgeTV
