hoped you enjoyed clip Big ham, paint itself is strong with saltwater, you can maintain its condition as long as keep clean after trip. I mean this is one of my restored real, if you can care without metal or any sharp impact, this paint finish can be last without crack or scratch. I did spray urethan clear coat but epoxy clear will cover more. I have done all different method to refresh old real and rod, this paint method is not a strongest protection but it is work fine to me.

@@boondo Superlube , I even use it on my firearms. It leaves a film on the metal parts that has stoped all rusting, wether storing in a safe of hunting in inclement weather.

First you shouldn’t paint over chrome it will come right off only powder coating will have a lasting finish especially when using in salt water you could use acid to remove the chrome and paint it but in my experience from doing this it will last about 2 trips out They do have a nice plating kit you can convert chrome to nickel to gold but the kit is 300 dollars so is it really worth it ? I think it came out nice and looks great but I think a original penn reel cleaned up with new drag washers new ceramic bearings and maybe a custom handle would be a better option

@@boondo You would of had problems with the internal spring dropping off its keeper because of the lever extending to far.

I used auto paint which is little pricy and urethan clear coat, I believe Paint itself will be staying long time, if you don't have heavy hitting or scratch by metal. Thank you for watching
