I have an x27 I’ve had for 6-7 years. Someone stole my orange monster maul. I was skeptical but love the x27. Is VERY well made. Splits well. Best splitting axe around.
The X27 is a great splitter. I do need the maul and sledgehammer for the tough ones but the x27 and x25 can handle a majority of the wood. Thanks for watching!
I just started chopping my own wood just for the fire pit and beach. Occasionally I'll see free wood where I live and I figured hey after I chop a few rounds it'll pay for the axe as a bundle of wood here costs between $5 and $7. Also I can chop the wood into different sizes so I can manage how big I want my fire and how long I want it to go by adding larger or smaller pieces. I was debating between the X25 and the X27. I ended up deciding on the X27 mainly for safety since it was longer so if I miss or it goes through it'll have more chance of it hitting the ground instead of me. Might have better accuracy with the shorter one but I like my feet and legs. I place a log on the ground in front of me also as a buffer. The added length also gives me more leverage so I don't have to swing as hard. I don't know what kind of wood I was splitting, but it was not seasoned, and I pretty much let the weight of the axe and a little bit of muscle and it split the would like butter. I only split 2 18 inch rounds and the splitter was expecting to see the blade ege get a little dull from impact since it was so sharp. But it was still razor sharp. I did get two tiny dings though because I hit the ground and there was a rock. That was my bad. Can't wait to get some more wood to split.
Thanks for comment! Free wood is the best type of wood! I got the 36” axe first as well. It works really well. I find the 28” axe to work the same though and it’s a little easier to swing and more accurate. Your point of aim should be the stump; swing through the entire log and into the stump. Don’t swing in a circular arc, otherwise you do risk hitting your feet. I recommend a chopping block like I use in the video to avoid ground impact. I don’t think wood can chip these axe heads, so if you avoid the ground contact they should last forever. I actually found the axe to be sharper after splitting wood.
I have the 36" version and I just choke up on it for most splits, but if I have a giant round to process I can use the full swing radius if I want to. Best spitting tool I've use so far. That said, I hate the sting I get on overstrikes...but at least the handle doesn't get marred by it.
The durability of these Fiskars handles is really impressive. The handle on the x25 in this video has literally split tons of wood and it still looks great. These axes are a great value. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I'm thinking about gitting one of them. Ill give my gas spitter a break and get some exercise. I already have an orange monster, it's a littel heavy, but it does allright.

@@thelifeofriley7668 that's a practical thing. I got fiskars x17 and x5 and love them both, but for really knotty pieces of wood only a chainsaw can help.
@@TheDa6781 Do you like the x17? It always feels like an awkward, in-between, length when I pick it up. Sometimes I use a sledgehammer and wedge for the really knotty stuff but all these tools have their limits. We save the stubborn logs for the wood splitter now; it’s no longer efficient for us to process those with an axe.
I have X17 and one really small :) fiskars. Actually, can split any, but need some larger fiskars brother anyway :) Cannot decide between X25 and X27, but I think will choose X25 because I am using to split with one hand while keeping with another and in this case, X27 will be too long for that. It seems for me, X25 is too big for pieces in video :) And more interesting thing that X25 and X27 are the same price at this moment (2 euros difference).
@@thelifeofriley7668 if you split in smaller pieces and fast, i do it with one hand while keeping the other with left hand. By the way, i have all my fingers on both hands :)

Thanks for the offer but it may be a while before I run out of wood! Found a downed oak on our trail today.. couldn’t even finish sectioning it before nightfall. I have more wood than time right now :)
@@indrekkpringiI don’t reprofile it, just use the bevel/angle from the factory. You can see in the video how I sharpen it. This method works well for me, you can see at the end of the video that it still slices paper after splitting. Thanks for watching and commenting.
