fix for sony bluray firmware upgrade disabling player when acessing NETFLIX- BDPBX59 

Oh my lord, thank you so much! I’ve been hopeless about getting back into Netflix, and this did the trick!! I think changing the DNS after resetting everything helped my situation. Thank you again.

Man was I frustrated also with my Sony BDP BX59, Netflix just shut down altogether on me while everything else was fine. Was ready to pitch it and never buy Sony again, but, after reading some peoples solutions and trying, I got it going again. Went to "Factory default settings" and chose all settings and it did the trick! I just hope it holds up! Thanks all!!!

January 2020 and it worked for me! Sony Blu Ray player, all the streaming services worked except for Netflix. I was actually watching a Netflix movie and went back to the main menu when it happened to me. I went on chat with Netflix and they told me my device was no longer supported which was obviously a cop out because this worked. Thanks for taking the time to post this!

OK, I did all of these, chat with Sony, did these too, and nothing worked, Sony guy told me even "we are not responsible for apps functionality" I was about to throw the player down the window and never again buy a Sony. BUT! Tried to set up the pv6 connection and it mention I didn't have one, so in set up, I disabled the pv6, and the pv4 left it in "auto". And it worked again!! So, if avobe didn't worked, tried disabling pv6, and auto pv4 connection. It worked for me!

Hi I've had my BDP BX59 for a little over a year. Like you say, when I try to load the Netflix app, it locks the BDP unit up and becomes unresponsive. Crazy part is, this is a year AFTER your video was made. All of a sudden, my unit is now doing this. And I've tried every thing I've read, and watched. I'm thinking it'll make good target practice at this point. Though, EVERYTHING else works, EXCEPT Netflix. It just pisses me off.

Support on Blu-ray disk Home Theater system ends May.2018!!!! Imagine the balls on Sony!!!! The have never supported the BDV n 7200w... and now they have the nerve to say that they will end support!!! Goodbye Sony forever! The hardware is OK... but the software is a piece of crap, has been, is and forever will be.

Steve, thanks for this helpful video! the comments below are good, too. I had the same problem. I just used reset to go back to defaults like Joshua Johnson, put back in my network key, and it is working fine again.

What the hell you don't need to do all this you just need to unplug your damn device and then plug it back inI know this because I just got a device and it was having problems with Netflix app only and I was told my Sony to just unplug my device and plug it back in and it should work and it did

This player has many bugs. Sometimes it is not responding or no FM radio sound

What do you do after the ip address? You never went over the proxy side of it. You left like two setup pages out

How to find your IP address

Caution: Maybe you have an other IP-Adress and Gateway. you can normaly choose Auto-Confguration in the network-Settings

I have a different Sony BD model, but worked around it to reset Initialize Personal Info., couldn't find the place to input internet IP address, so I skipped internet settings part and NETFLIX is now back! (before if choose Netflix the Sony freezes and have to unplug/plug to get it back on). Thanks so much!

I had same problem with RU-vid. For my Sony Blu-ray Disc DVD player, doing a complete factory reset worked. I have a small cheap basic model, but bought June of this year and already having this issue...we replaced 2012 sharp tv because of app issue with Netflix. Now RU-vid on Sony player. It’s just an evening hour or less for our family. This doesn’t quit, distributors and app providers can’t play nice, we will shut them off and play cards and dominos. We’ve already cut the cable cord. One more snip won’t hurt. No more wasting money when they work hard at not working on their issues.

I read this morning that when you connect to NetFlix on a Sony Blu-ray player, you do not directly connect to NetFlix. Your video is streaming from NetFlix to Sony Servers to your internet router to your Blu-Ray player. This is what is causing many of the problems when trying to watch Netflix. Funny... But NetFlix has a business Relationship with Samsung but NOT with Sony. You will find that if you stream from Crackle, you will have NO problems. Crackle is owned by Sony. You can reach your own conclusions.

Thank-you SO much! I have the BDP BX59. Using your info, this is how it worked for me: Tried the hold-the-off-button with a router disconnect. Didn't work. Tried to enter the new settings ("Don't choose Auto!") as in the display above, but it wouldn't accept the Subnet set of numbers. Finally resigned myself to losing My List, and reset to factory defaults: it took away Hulu, Netflix, everything, for a moment. Agreed to new licensing agreement - BAM! Netflix is back. Used the sign-in button. MY LIST is still there! Viewing history is fine. I LOVE YOU STEVE W!

Why waste time with Netflicks? We just head down to the local DVD rental store and get whatever we need. No need for fooling around with unreliable vaporware digital files.

This worked for me although I'm wirelessly set up, so the options weren't the same (auto and custom weren't there) so I went to wired set up, input all of the numbers and then went next. I said no to proxy settings and it said failed (which I figured it would) so then I went back and redid the wireless set up and it worked. YAY!! Thanks again!

This particular setup didn't work for my BDP-S590 unit with the same Netflix problem. But simply resetting everything and setting up the internet connection again (I used auto since the given IP's didn't let me connect to the network for whatever reason) worked.

Bdv-e570 here.. it originally had prime and netflix and worked fine... then one day the prime app was missing after it did a firmware update..wtf? then later down the line I connect wired internet again becuz I wanted to at least use the remaining netflix app..well the firmware updated again and Removed my netflix! WTF? what the hell kind of updates are these that Diminish and remove optionss and apps from a working system? Really sony? like wtf? It left dozens of utterly useless apps on there and removed the only 2 that I;d ever use...
