On a used engine like this with unknown history, would it make sense to take off the sump and valve cover to get a visual on at least some of the internals? Borescope the cylinders perhaps? Or just rely on the return policy of the seller...

If it was for racing then yes we would have likely delved in to have a look but otherwise you'd void the warranty if you started taking things apart.

What power did the new engine make and any idea of what engine mods he is running?

Hi, standard road engine, race air filter, full arrow exhaust, ecu flash. 185bhp give or take 👍
