Why won't you reball them???
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair Месяц назад
Good question. This one is a really tough one to reball. The main processor for this one is extremely thin and tends to warp during the reball process. When that happens the chip just won't sit properly on the board post reball and the solder balls then don't make proper contact with the PCB. We have been able to get them to uwarp and be flush again sometimes but not always. Because of this for these mainboards and these mainboards specifically we do a reflow first and if that doesn't work then we attempt the reball, and if the warping is to much then we replace the chips entirely. But yeah this one is a very unique one. Often we can get a good quality reflow that will work and last for a very long time, more than a year that's for sure, but if we can't, then yeah we opt for reball and or replacement if reball is a no go.

@@NicksTVRepair sadly reflowing is not really a lasting fix, the unleaded solder will crack again later. Reballing with leaded solder is needed

Hi, you did the great job done in this video, you were right today is my lucky day you already made a video on this exact tv model i have, so just after watching your video i can remember that the voltages are the same as mine, 3.94 volts on AC-DET and 16.18 Volts on the other pins to mainboard, so my power supply is also good and the problem is the same on this TV model as yours on the video, i am not able to send my mainboard currently to you as the price is high and i am jobless. I will find a heat gun from somewhere and will just try to heat both of the processors to the point where the solders get liquid and tries to rebound themselves back, hope i get lucky through this fix, what are your thoughts should i heat both of the chips or the one which is coming little bit hot after turning on the power supply ? the first one shown in this video which was first removed is the one i get little bit hot which probably means it receives voltages and the other one remains cold, which i think does not receives proper voltages due to break points underneath and i think this should be the problematic one, i need your inputs please regarding my fix, also i am not able to find a replacement board on ebay or amazon, do you know any other website so i can order new one when i got cash on me ?

For the heating, I did about 20 seconds but that's with my heatgun set to high. I don't know what heat gun you have, and how much heat it puts out so you may have to do 30 seconds with yours if it's less powerful. I wouldn't do more than 30 however because then you run the risk of overheating it and then it won't turn on because it's to hot. So I would say if 30 seconds doesn't do it, wait a minute and try a second time. Wait a minute try a 3rd time. If by the third time it doesn't do it then it a 4th or 5th won't make a difference and it's possible that yours has a failure so severe that heating it up is not enough and the processors will need to be replaced. I don't mean to be a negative but if our repair service is too expensive for you, then you certainly can not afford to fix this yourself. What I mean by that is you stated " I will find a heat gun from somewhere and will just try to heat both of the processors to the point where the solders get liquid and tries to rebound themselves back" If you do this, you will likely break the board to the point where no one will ever be able to fix this mainboard. We didn't spend $5,000 on the reflow machine used in the video if you could just as well do the reflow with a heat gun as you suggest you will be doing. This will almost certainly break your board beyond repair and you will then have to spend 5 times the money to replace this TV. The heat gun is NEVER used to reflow the solder, the heat gun is only used to diagnose and confirm the fault. I would recommend you rewatch the entire video to see this and look carefully a how the machine has 3 different heating elements to heat up the board in very specific ways. There are no replacement boards available this is why we offer the repair service for this mainboard. You don't have the option to replace this. It's either the mainboard gets fixed correctly the first time, or you give it a try yourself and if you don't succeed then you have to buy a new TV because you will have damaged your board beyond repair. I promise you that if you try and fix this by heating up the board to the solder's melting point with a heat gun you will kill that mainboard and make sure no one can ever fix that board. Again you only get 1 chance, there are no replacements for sale for this unit. I would only do this if you don't care about the money and are ready to spend a lot more on replacing the TV entirely than paying a fraction for the repair. This is one of the tougher repairs and one of the more sensitive boards. Even with thousands of repairs under our belt doing this and even with high-end equipment that is purpose-built for this exact job, we don't always get 100% of the boards working. This one is one of the tougher ones.

@@NicksTVRepair thanks for the long comment and tips, i have repaired Playstation 3 processors and GPU by heating them with heatgun while placing them on a leveled surface to the melting point, and they have been repaired this way and still working great, whats different here ? and another question is you said if not repaired you will replace the processor, from where do you get those processors incase they are not sold over the market ?
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair Месяц назад
It sounds like you have already made up your mind to try it. With that said Playstation 3 circuit boards are incredibly different than the circuit board for the Vizio TV. "While placing them on a leveled surface" The surface you place it on is not the issue, the issue is the board will warp and no longer be flat, especially if you only heat it up from 1 side. The CPU may not get damaged during this process but your PCB may get damaged and that's the part that will make it none repairable. You can find replacements simply by googling the part number printed on the chip but that won't matter. I do wish you good luck.

Hi - what size/thickness/model# of the Artic Thermal pads do you recommend for the M70-D3 main processor board? Our M70-D3 works fine for a couple of hours and then the screen picture goes to static and the speakers play static noise at full volume. Does that sound like it might need just the mx-4 thermal compound and thermal pads to resolve? Thanks!
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 4 дня назад
It wouldn't be a bad idea to refresh the solder paste between the heatsink and your processors. I believe by default vizio uses thin pads which aren't as good at transferring heat so MX-4 or MX-6 would be a big improvement to begin with. As for pads, you should already have pads on this model I believe so there would be no need to get new ones. But for sure get rid of the old thermal pads, clean the heatsink and CPU with 99% isopropyl alcohol, and then add fresh new high-end thermal paste. That might be all you need to fix it.
