@@jonsimpson6240 literally 2 fights over the whole campaign. The final fight and the brutal cerberus break in. Every other time it was less than useless
hum..... if you look in the top corner, it says episode 109 which is after both the Volcano and the trip to Hell (ok, I might be wrong about the trip to hell but I know for sure that the Volcano was the previous story arc)
Ring of Fire Resistance = 5,000 gold pieces, [26:15[ *_"YES! Saved my bitch!"_** =* -16 (of 32) fire damage reduction, Vindication *= **_PRICELESS._** ;D*
"This is my brother he will help you." "I thought he was your cousin?" *long tense silence* "Brother-Cousin." *me literally rolling on the floor dying of laughter*
Travis: "What's it made of?" Me: "A ruby and a sapphire, innit?" --------- Fjord: "You're giving my ring back?" Jester: "That's not... I just mean... But you gave it to me because..." Beau: "Are you guys breaking up?" Jester: "NO!"
What’s really funny is that if he’d spent 3,500 gp on fire opals he could have had orly give him a fire resistance tattoo that didn’t require attunement 😂
@@jessb7898 i thought that as long as the tattoos dont overlap you can do it (ex you cant have 2 tattoos that take up ur entire back, but you can have a back and arm tattoo)
I bought a Ring of Psychic Resistance once for 4000gp, and I regretted the purchase... right up until I got hit with 2 Mind Blasts in a row waaaay later in the game. I had a similar reaction, except I had a physical prop ring to flail around at everyone who ever questioned my purchase.
That didnt happen. Get your own experiences and share those if you need attention on the internet... But I bought a ring of ice resistance for 3999gp and everyone thought it was the coolest and I won
@@ksdajkfahgdkhsdag Doubting peoples' DnD stories is pretty silly. Good DMs will pay attention to what their table is capable of and present them with opportunities to shine. If I realize that one of my players has been carrying some random treasure long enough that nobody's thinking about it, that's the perfect time to whip up a relevant situation.
@@ksdajkfahgdkhsdag You sound like an awful, miserable person. Calling a cool, completely plausible D&D experience fake is more pathetic than actually making one up.
I bet you Matt gave the BBEG fireball *explicitly* for Fjord. That there is some good DMing. It seems basic, but too many of my DMs don't do stuff like that.
I mean, Matt IS infamous for playing the long game. He has a good eye/sense of "making a player's choice feel like it was fate and meant to be", plus there's the whole aspect of the ring not really being useful to Fjord for a good portion of the campaign after the purchase. XD
Same with how he gave them that thing (i don’t remember what it was) that reversed people being turned to stone RIGHT BEFORE they went to rescue Cad’s stone family 😂
Current campagin I'm running: My players were a little unimpressed after finding a ring of mind shielding. The barbarian is like well I'll take it if nobody else has a slot for it. Fast forward a couple of weeks. And they are all horrified as the intellect devourers are blasting everyone. The party can't seem to figure out why they are ignoring the barbarian (with jokes about him no having enough brains for them to be interested etc) several members are dropping to 0 int and being stunned and the barb is able to save them all before they become puppets. Later on they are going over magic items... and the barbarian shouts Holy **** is this ring the reason those brains weren't able to see me? (It's not in he monster description, but I figure mind blank is very close to the rings abilities) I just chuckled... and the ring became one of his most prized possessions.
5:08 "... Totally, but what if we go somewhere where it's cold, and we're just sitting there looking at this expensive-fuck ring... Travis predicted Eisselcross.
I need 24:34 - 24:54 to be in the Mighty Nein show. I can just imagine he says "No! Jester has it!" Then just dolly zoom in on his face, as he realizes, before losing his shit. "FUCK!!! THE *ONE TIME*!!!" 🤣
I love how it feels at 17:33 Beau was not at all paying attention but the moment there's a chance that there's drama she's full focus. Also I love the regret meter, it's really well edited
I have spent so much time parsing through critical roll episodes to find these moments. Thank you for doing the work that I did not have the strength to do myself.
Now we need BH to meet up with Jester & Fjord, and Jester gives Laudna the ring of fire protection. So she can have one ring from each of Laura's characters. 😜
Your Critical Role compilations are the best! I hope you make some of season 3: Fearne Insight checks, Pâté appearances, Fearne triggering Imogen's fear of heights, Chetney hitting on people, FCG flat-earthing, etc! 🤣🤣🤣
15:28 Looking back, if Caleb ever wanted to have a staff too as a Wizard, that Blast Scepter really would have fit him aesthetically, thematically, and mechanically 🔥
Legit, I feel like this ring's story is partly a reason why Travis doesn't like shopping episodes. XD There's another reason but it's tied to campaign 1 and I don't wanna bring it up really.
I know that feeling of making a big deal out of wanting something then when you buy it you instantly regret it. But by then you're too stubborn to go back on it.
this comment is like super old but laura homebrewed with matt that jester has ice resistance not fire due to her dad (laura originally wanted her dad to be a water djin that not what ended up happening but that why ice resistance)
he predicted not only going to hell and a volcano (where he wasn't wearing it and didn't benefit) but also going to somewhere cold and being like "well this is useless"
It's a big ask but has anyone gotten how much hp the ring has absorbed? I would love to know the hp/gold cost of that ring. (I know that potentially stopping a player from going down saves a turn and improves action economy thus has grater value than just equivalent hp gained but still)
I can't stop thinking about this question, so here's my breakdown based on the moments I found through transcripts + CritRoleStats. To the best of my knowledge, these are all the instances but I'm welcome to be corrected: EP121 - absorbed 5 total damage from the Fire Elemental towards Fjord EP139 - absorbed 16 total damage from Eye of Ira to Jester EP140 - absorbed 16 total damage from Eye of Ira to Jester (Laura initially forgot about the resistance but it was figured out later on) = 37 total damage absorbed by the ring. So, the 4,500gp paid by Fjord, divided by the 37 hitpoints 'saved' by the ring, is 122 (rounded up). To answer your question - that's a hp/gold ratio of 122gp per 1hp.
@@Big_Pants_ if you mean the one in EP121 that came from the Fire Elemental and is included in the 5 total damage (it happened twice), sorry if that wasn't clear. if you mean something else please do tell
@@jodah_eternal my point was that the original comment was a bit inane. If the characters were different races then they would have different properties.
I think the best part of all this is immediately after that final damage reduction, Jester took triple-digit impalement damage and became a corpse...the ring kinda was useless after all.
Lord Sutan was someone the MN helped frame and connect to the myriad early in the campaign. The break in episode to steal a wax seal the same night as the attack in Zadash when the Beacon was stolen.
