Parliament gets no credit as a band that was way ahead of their time. Like Nirvana and Led Zeppelin so to speak. George Clinton was a pure musical genius. Probably the most original band there ever was
One of the most compelling and powerful openings to any song! I give them genius credit...all the way. Full sound, great musicians and singers. Your "Nirvana" comparison doesn't fit into this category...they suck and should have never been given a record contract.
Man, the party got crazy when this came out!!! Went to a "Flashlight" party in college given by Alpha Phi Alpha. Got in for a buck if you brought a flashlight. LOL. All lights off when they played this and you shined your light on everybody. LOL. Those were the days!!!!
I think I'd have died of funk if I would be at this show. This is the best funk I've ever seen. And this kind of funk is exactly what the world of today needs, a true free expressive soul.
There are few bands in the world you can put on in ANY part of the world, and it will make people dance and smile. I heard this song back in my country (Peru) being played in a car wash and the dude washing my car was dancing. Love this band!
cool comment funk is an essential ingredient not confined to any one particular ethnic group im a funked up white man from the southeast usa funk also is enlightenment and brings one to higher intelligence stay funky my bros and sistas i have a degree in funktology
Rodney Skeet Curtis is funkin' so hard on the riser next to the drummer. He's literally raising his foot stomping and extending the bass licks....incredible
+Steven silverman So true! Boring fucking Elvis Costello! I'm with you!. I was there then. IDIOTS, And the 'Police' instead of Bob Marley. I was into Pil, Psychedelic Furs, Talking Heads (Remain in Light) and the Pop Group. Too bad I was in the UK and had not yet discovered this the Black Led Zep of the 1970's (ie best Band in the world at the time) and most important and influential as Led Zep were with Hard Rock (69-75).P Funk could rock, funk and disco your ass!
Awesome - they brought the funk to Houston in April 1978 !! - I was born exactly 2 weeks after this show in the fine city of H-town. Even though my mom was not at this show maybe Bootsy's Bass penetrated the earth and walls of this city and the rhythm found it's way into the womb makin me ready to roll.
I attended four shows back in the day and i love every second that i was there. Much Love and no fights or calling other out of our names. Music that will go down in history as the good times and party"s time. Got to LOVE it.
No words for how good this is!! Fantastic to see this song finally live. Growing up with classic Rock in Germany, this song taught me the first time in my life what real Funk music is and totally opened my musical borders. Thank you for this George, god bless you.
This album was some of our favorite "trip music" in college! We also had a bong we called The Bop Gun. We could recite all of the lines and parts! I still play the CD today but my wife just thinks it is noise. I love this video because of the sheer energy and chaos.
It's one big P-Funk party w/these guys (and gals). Great playing, great singing, great dancing..great love and joy! I wish music would get back to this..
These cats gave the best concerts any group could've possibly gave. George and the gang were so creative with the funk. No band in history were more funkier.
Skeet iz thumpin on that bass ( like a woodpecker wit a headache). I would never miss a p- funk concert when he came to town. Put this in a time capsule so the next generation will see what fun was like🐐🎸🎵🎤💯🎯
One of the great party songs of all time. I went to a college stepshow recently, and the fraternity came out on stage to this song . . and the kids went wild.
grew with alot of class mates who had to be high to experience these guys.never my bag of tea,but i use to burn the floor up when flashlight came on though.boy those was some wild times in the late '70's.
we had this song at our wedding reception. It was like Soul Train, we all had a line started then we had the ladies take turns dancing with my hubby. LOL what a blast. lol
I grew up with these major Funkmasters. Love Parliment still play all the music today. Went to see them some years ago in DC..great concert. Everyone in the house was rocking and funking.. sold out concert with black and white funkateers..it was great!
this is the funkiest song ever...this video looks like one big party...their costumes are the freaking coolest of all time, I would love to have been there to see this...
Sir nose giggin at 2:30 is so raw .... wow!!! what happened to the World? so glad I was there back then when this song new and everyday people just kickin it, partying, total free-form, amazing time
I could go on and on about how much this music meant and still does mean to me, Gary "StarChild" Shider... I can still see you flying in on stage in that diaper, i was blown away then ( young teen in the 70's ) and have remained so ever since. Parliament Funkadelic was and is more than just music, it's a culture and I'm proud to say I'm part of it. To those reading this, you might not realize it, no matter your age, status etc... you are influenced by this culture weather you believe it or not
Dem boyz were smokin stuff potent stuff bitd.(backintheday) But most of all, they were SERIOUS badazz musicians. This out my last year of college and we would jamm this to no end. Fall '78. Its burnt into my memory.
man...memories of being a kid and hearing this over and over at my bday parties from the age of 4 til i was bout 11..man back in da day...there was like elevendy million mofos on stage and all of them gettin down..My uncle told me George would come out on stage passing out joints...so they could ALL go up on the mothership...damn!!!
this music is one of the reasons basketball had more love in the day than today....Rebound Records baby!! Young and Company, Secret Weapon, Parliament, Slave, Curtis Blow and Dunk on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love this stuff..........wurl be freeeeeeeeeeeeee
I know...I was born in 77. My sisters got to go to one of the concerts. In fact I believe it was this tour! I am still jealous of them to this day! They say it was an unforgettable experience...
You have to had been in the funk to understand. One ride on the Mothership and One shop with the Bop gun and your there. Keep funnking with out no stop.
Outside of The Godfather himself, there is no Funk deeper than this. Dr. Funkenstein and the Parliament/Funkadelic Army took us thirty thousand leagues under the earth to uncover the rawest, sweatiest funk this side of Neptune. Y'all Funk THEE!!!
wow...I used to see the mothership on commercials advertising the album.. but to actually witness its landing & the emerging of Dr. Funkenstein himself... well I must say I knew that there was a good reason that the internet was created. I can smell the funk comin out the speakers.
I was a 10 Years of aged little girl in 1978 and Mr.George Clinton was strange to me,but I loved his Music. He was bringing down that Galaxy Funk from Outer Space👽🛸
OMG ! A Parliafunkadelicment thang--LIVE !!!! All you young musicians listen and weep to the band that turned music on it's ear--fo' daze! Dance Sir Nose!
