I never had to stand next to someone I loved and sing about cheating on her or breaking up. They were performing, reacting, processing, reminiscing perhaps about when things were right, wanting to walk away, wanting to please an audience, and who knows what more. Great talent, great performance, but a very personal insight into lives of people I never knew. Nothing in today's music or performances come close to these era of music and performance.
To be fair, she wrote far more songs about him after their break up and he had to perform every single one with her as well! But that's what made Fleetwood Mac awesome... the real feelings behind the music. So powerful
The era where your favorite bands TRULY PERFORMED for you, live and raw. No backing tracks. No auto tune. Ad libbed jam sessions, and raw energy. All for a price that you could afford.
@@eboethrasher the autotune was more of a generic reference to the industry overall. Such is the case with delayed live streaming of performances where there has been use of pitch correction, as evidenced by comparing raw fan videos to the produced feed. 30 plus years of live performance here at the regional level - upwards of 90 shows a year. I know a little bit about the industry.
Mick was destroying Stevies walls...pause. He was just around to play drums and slang stick. Not great but got the job done apparently on both fronts lol!
Yeah, their rhythm section is their secret weapon. Totally underrated solo too. If that was the last song of the night, I'd go home happy for sure. The inspiration for Animal from the Muppets is Mick Fleetwood.
Perhaps but how much of their time was spent high on any and every form of escape known at the time. Being like that most of time may well destroy any sense of perspective and all that matters is what's in front of you in the moment. Stevie Nicks later admitted she routinely woke up next to someone in bed that she did not remember meeting. One wonders how everyone kept so thin!! I remember well people who had that look.
Absolutely, but do keep in mind that Lindsey surely hurt Stevie much more than she ever did. He was abusive; both emotionally and physically. Not to mention Stevie had to baby and provide for him before the Mac years. She worked as a waitress and cleaning lady while he stayed at home, jobless. While both were toxic for each other, villainizing Stevie is definitely not the way to go.
I was 10 years old in 1979 and I remember thinking Fleetwood Mac was for old people.... now I am old people, and I still think that,.. they are amazing.
It's because of their real raw emotion. The bassist married the keyboardist and guitarist and singer were lovers; and both relationships were strained and ended but the music went on
So much emotion from Buckingham! Amazing!! Songs nowadays don’t have feelings put into them like then and I bet half the artists nowadays don’t even write their own songs
The current songs don't say anything. Only show the female singer in lingerie and showing skin more than it should, like selling lingerie at a recital. And if he is a male singer, they only show their inflated anabolic skin with a naked torso. What a shame!!
I just can’t with the rhythms of this thing. I don’t think it would be possible to find a song with more syncopation that everybody just hits! One of the 70s best!
One of the best "Fuck You" to an ex song ever written. Stevies lacklustre tambourine playing on the video can't be put down to lack of cocaine at the time in all fairness. All said and done one of the best bands ever, lived a life I can only ever dream about...
O I am sure she purposely acted differently and as dull as possible for this song because she hated that shacking up line. Her way of getting back. You will also notice the last half she is hanging around Christine and John is over by Lindsey, girls sticking together and guys sticking together since both couples split.
Stevie hated this song - especially that "shacking up" line in the 2nd verse. So I can see why she's just throwing her little onstage tantrums whenever they have to do this giant hit onstage...
I agree! The guitar has more grit to it than other versions and while the 97 version is good, it's a beat too slow and a lot less grit, so that R&R feel isn't there as much.
Back in the day a great 3 1/2 minute song, played live, turns into an unbelievable 6+ minute masterpiece...Seeing this in person is mesmerizing...Kids today have NO idea what they missed...The raw energy, talent...
I didn't appreciate this band enough when I was younger (currently 46) until I picked up a guitar and really started listening. this song hits SO hard, and Lindsey Buckingham can play the sh*t out of the guitar!! the whole band is SO talented.
Welcome to real music kids. No auto tune, all live and real and raw and the performers really laid it out there for you. Im so thankful I grew up with this as my music...I was 14 when this song was out and popular.
I was 2 months old when this was performed. I’ve only just really discovered how great FM actually were. Lindsay’s performance here is amazing. The whole band did this song a massive justice. This song has special place in my heart as I’m going through the same kinda thing right now.
Lindsey Buckingham is a fucking rock star! I never noticed. I've always just paid attention to Stevie and the drummer. What an incredible band, the bassist is an all-star too.
Yup - always an afterthought for me, but after seeing this - amazing charisma, what presence! Rolling Stone piece (from late 70's) ranked him one of the world's top 10 guitarist.
when I feel down every now and then I come back to this and it makes me happier and energised every time, pure definition of music and passion that helps you to bear with sadness
This is one of the best rock groups in the world. Thank you for sharing this. I love this song and my son of 23 is loving it too, lol. I made him love this song from he was a baby and now he is asking for it. This means that this kind of music will stay forever, you don't think so?
Incredible performance...I know that after I was broken up with someone I would not have wanted to continue being around them...this had to be an enormous challenge...
Masterpiece album! All that emotion made for fantastic sonic work and everlasting good times for us who were young when this album exploded upon us like a warm summer breeze telling you life is alright!
@@bartman58 There’s actually a second guitar player in the background playing 12-string acoustic, I believe. At :15, you can see Lyndsey looking back to get the first sound from the 12-string, then just before :30, you can see Lyndsey count down to 5, when the 12-string picks up the counter-rhythm.
I love the way Christine is getting down behind the keyboards dancing and shaking her thang! Of course miss Stevie’s trying to play it Cool knowing this song’s about her. She has publicly said she’s not a fan especially the “shacking up” part. She was really butt hurt over that. Oh well, it’s a great song and Lindsey’s voice is perfection! It’s obvious She tries not to acknowledge him especially when he’s getting the attention.
If I could go back in time and have winning lottery numbers or be front row at this show, when they were clearly at their best and so electric... WITHOUT A DOUBT I CHOOSE THE LOTTERY TICKET... 😁 But I would go to EVERY SHOW I COULD after this... and go to RU-vid and watch this video everyday... 👊🏿
For such a killer song - and as great as he is - why didn't Lindsey follow this same template for song-writing in the future?...aka driving, thumping, hook-laden, power guitar bliss? This song was the first and last of its kind from Lindsey.
Wow, my band "Make No Heroes" a lot of the songs were written about a girl that the bass player and I mutually knew. But I cannot "Imagine" being in the same band with that person and writing songs about the situation. Maybe that is what makes FM such a great band they inserted their humanity into the songs putting a signature on the heart of the listener / writer / band mate vs just signing a song. I have written many songs but have never had the emotional intelligence that I believe was present when they were pumping out these `Awesome` tunes. Great Stuff.
I was at this concert,,,Stevie was stoned out of her mind...I heard she passed out with her contacts on (old school) and FM had to cancel the Charlotte NC concert the following night.
Yeah, I wasn’t alive back then LOL but I heard she was almost blind because she was partying late with the band and some friends to celebrate Rumours (I’m pretty sure) and forgot to take them out before going to sleeping.
Great song... That being said, I do not recommend going your own way while driving a car like I did the last time this song started playing on the car radio and I went my own way down a one-way street... People weren't too happy with me. Do not go your own way! Go the way the road signs tell you to go.
Lyrics: Loving you Isn't the right thing to do How can I ever change things That I feel? If I could Baby, I'd give you my world How can I When you won't take it from me? You can go your own way Go your own way You can call it Another lonely day You can go your own way Go your own way Tell me why Everything turned around Packing up Shacking up is all you want to do If I could Baby, I'd give you my world Open up Everything's waiting for you You can go your own way Go your own way You can call it Another lonely day You can go your own way Go your own way You can go your own way Go your own way You can call it Another lonely day Another lonely day You can go your own way Go your own way You can call it Another lonely day You can go your own way You can call it Another lonely day You can go your own way
Jeanne Simmons if you get the chance definitely go see them the best concert I’ve ever been to Lindsey Buckingham is an awesome musician, singer , sadly no longer with them
Saw them live in Tucson Arizona, on my birthday, August 28th---- forget the year, circa 1982 I believe. Fantastic concert. Ohhh and that young Stevie Nicks----I was so in love with her!
