I have a feeling that this is the actual version of the song that Stevie Nicks wanted on Rumours. There is a long one like this with a completely different arrangement and vocals, but this one captures more of the mood and atmosphere surrounding the meaning...
This recording is from between February and July of 1976.

When I was a damaged seventeen year old girl, I met a damaged twenty two year old cowboy. Unlike me, he was willing to be vulnerable. I could not. Once, this song came on the radio. It was on the B side of something, and he said, "This is how I feel about you." I was so stunned and awkward...I didn't understand. He burned fast and hard, and his light went out just a few years after we met, but he was right. Time did cast a spell on me, and I've never forgotten him.

They will never end mate,not even after death. They are soulmates. And not in a way like a couple. I have never seen someone like those two that can love and hate each other with that kind of a mythical magnitude. Fleetwood Mac is one of a kind band and it is very possible that we won't see or hear something similar for a very long time.
@Rumbleghost
@Rumbleghost 3 года назад
Not Romeo and Juliet. They had the pure and blind love that only the immature can have with their first love. Stevie and Lindsey went far beyond and far deeper than that. Not just love, but a cycle of tempestual battles and reconciliations. Like two stars locked in orbit, tearing each other apart and absorbing each other. Romeo and Juliet had no maturity to it, whatsoever. Then again, Stevie kicking Lindsey out of the band smacks of immaturity... I would say this is more like the King Richard Lionheart and Catharine of Aragon story, ala the Lion in Winter.
@sgvaldehueza
@sgvaldehueza 3 года назад
@@Rumbleghost this is very correct. Romeo and Juliet are very blinded, Their love is not mature enough for me. All I see towards J and R are some spontaneous teenage puppy love. But Buckingham and Nicks, it's on a higher soul mate level... They are soulmates that we all bviously cannot deny

This song and this version breaks me...I never saw a healthy relationship growing up so I made so many, too many mistakes falling in love with men that were fun and gorgeous but didn't want me after a fling and on the other hand I had several men that loved me for me and treated me like gold but i pushed them away because I thought craving someone so intensely was what I needed. I wasted so many years and this song makes me think about all of that so it gets me all up in my feelings so it's very Bittersweet for me and I'm sure a lot of people can relate.

Silver Springs came out in 1976 and I was born in 1977,and its one of the songs that I can say I remember so well as a very young girl,I have to say that it was the first song I ever heard in my whole life.I told my mom and dad this same thing,and my mom says she remembers listening to it when she was on the way to the hospital when she was on the way to have me.My dad says it came on when he was putting me in my car seat for the first time leaving hospital.Both my mom said "how can I ever forget", and now I will never forget this song and the passion I have for it and the sentimental value it carries deep within my heart.

It being left off Rumours had nothing to do with LB, the song was simply too long. Ken Caillat's book gives great details on all the songs recorded for Rumours and talks in depth about how hard they worked to try to get SS (a song they all recognised as outstanding) on the album. In terms of pacing for the album, the up tempo I Don't Want To Know was eventually seen as a better option & the edited Silver Springs finished up on the Go Your Own Way b-side.
@michaeladley
@michaeladley 7 лет назад
yeah, that sounds good in a book - but I don't buy it - if they all thought it was so outstanding and they spent so much time perfecting it (there are countless versions on YT), why couldn't they squeeze a few minutes more on the album to make it work...the b-side version was practically cut in half anyway...and if you're using tempo as the deciding factor, what about Songbird and Oh Daddy, I would hardly call those upbeat, Lindsay was a bastard to her at that time, no way was he going to let her upstage him with a bone-crushing song like SS...I don't know, Ken may have just been saving face (Mick mentioned the same thing in his book) for making one of recording history's biggest mistakes ever. They all lose, not just Stevie. But she got the last laugh anyway, when it was nominated for a grammy over 20 years later...just my opinion

Absolutely stunningly BEAUTIFUL song. Stevie is definitely at the height of her vocal game on this version of Silver Springs. You can tell she really loved this version which is also the same version she sang later in life on their reunion tour "The Dance". It was originally intended for Rumours but was diverted to a "B" side single release of "Go Your Own Way" in a different studio recorded version. As iconic of an album that Rumours is (one of my all time favorites), I truly think that this version of Silver Springs would have only enhanced the album. What could have been eliminated? I don't know as the songs are all so good but this maybe could have been added in somewhere and the album extended by one song. Oh well, what is is what is and Rumours was still one of the best selling albums of all time.

When they learned Silver Springs wouldn't be in the album, they threw in I Don't Wanna Know. Still, exquisite album!

Yes it was an exquisite album, and I always loved I Don't Wanna Know also. I can still remember first hearing the Rumors album at a party my mother and farther had taking me too at a friends house. I was 11 years old at the time in 1977. I can remember it almost like it was yesterday. Funny how music makes a mark on the history of your life. Rumors has been one of my favorite albums ever since.

I'm 22 and in love with that album/band. I even have a Stevie Nicks-inspired tattoo. Timeless music. I'm stunned about how it marks people of every age!

I had this version on a bootleg tape in the early 90's, but lost it...So very glad to hear it again after all these years. A truly inspired vocal track!

I think it’s one of the great songs period. The melody is enchanting and you hear so many different emotions in her voice. I heard it the first time decades ago and had a lot of difficulty finding it. It never occurred to me that it would be a B side.

"Baby I don't wanna know..." Great lyrics, full of Stevie's emotional response to real life situations. Doesn't get any more powerful than that. You can hear it in her voice.

+spacedoginnebraska There is a better one but I've only come across it on i tunes. Her vocals aren't quite as raw (she sounds as though she has a mild cold on this track) but towards the end you can tell she is holding back tears- it's extremely moving and gives you goose bumps galore. Such a brilliant song- heard them play live last year and I cried when they sang this as part of the encore.

I put my beautiful 3 month old baby girl to sleep tonight with this beautiful song. It was so funny,...every time the song ended she would cry so I had to play this 3 times before she finally fell to sleep as I rocked her softly in my arms to this beautiful song. Thank you so much for sharing this with me and my grand-daughter, Nevaeh.

Stevie takes the stage & makes it her own on this performance (like many others). My favorite song of "all time" by my "all time" favorite band with Musician, Artist, Poet Stevie Nicks. The first time I recall hearing this song of Stevie's on a recording was when they introduced "25 Years on the Chain" set. Otherwise always a "single" & personal song of hers. She owned it! Am I wrong? Regardless, this is by far the creme de le creme version! Thanks so much for sharing!

She's so gifted. Infinity. I don't understand how he left her. Love is deeper then a younger woman' s envy here comes revenge her revenge. She'll never win over Stevie nicks! Not black magic just pure innocent love on Stevie soul. Young Men they grow old they never forget they know love 💕first love counts

I was at a FM concert some 20 miles from Silver Spring in Largo on Oct 5, 1975. Unfortunately this song was not on their set list that night because she didn't write it until the following day. FM was on tour to promote their first album with Buckingham & Nicks (tenth studio album under the brand name Fleetwood Mac). I had a few of the earlier FM LPs and really was excited about hearing this new sound for FM after Peter Green & Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, and Bob Welch had moved on. Incredibly FM was the opening band for Loggins and Messina (House at Pooh Corner?). Either Kenny or Jim commented before their first song that FM was a hard act to follow! Truth to power.... I saw FM once more near Austin, TX for Sunday Break #2.on September 5, 1976. That was a real mini-imitation if Woodstock. I had to move my camp because a wildfire started and swept across the pasture burning tents, cars, trucks, and everything in its path. But the event was spectacular with a lineup of The Band, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton and the Steve Miller Band.
