I find it very cool that Dongrang obtained ego not by becoming a better person but by double-, triple-, and quadruple-downing on being a terrible person (simplification). Not because the City makes him like that, but because he chooses to be one.

Farmwatch. A term used in the feudal times, I believe in Japan. A farmwatch was a man tasked with keeping an eye on the farmers tending the fields of their masters. They themselves, however, didn't own the land. They owned nothing on the land. They were people tasked of making sure other people tended the fiends that they themselves didn't own. Dongrang is the literal farmwatch of K-Corp. Became someone thanks to a technology he didn't make, tasked with surveying a company he didn't own, for a boss that didn't even recognise him outside of him being part of something bigger that wasn't himself.

Funny how so many of Yi Sang’s problems come down to him thinking his mirror was a window instead of actually being a mirror.

I remember when I finished this canto. It was midnight and I couldn't sleep so I went "Fuck it, I'm finishing the dungeon." Two hours later, I was trying hard not to cry with delight. PM might not be the perfect company, but damn if they don't try their best to give an amazing experience.

Once you get to Canto 5, don't worry: There's basically no more filler. Very few story-less battles. PM definitely listened to the criticism of Canto 4. Well, at least we got a bit more lunacy from stage clears than usual in Canto 4, I guess.

Fly, My Wings is a song that resonates with me on such a personal level. While I don't necessarily resonate with Yi Sang specifically, every time I hear that song it reminds me of myself in so many ways. It's a song about depression, but more importantly, it's a song about confronting it, a song about falling to its depths, and in the end, soaring free on perfect wings. Most importantly, though, the song really pushes that "It's okay to not be okay". That even if you're doing what you love, or if you're well off in life, even if you have "A genius perfect job" there's no guarantee you'll be -happy-. Or that you ever will be. No guarantee that it'll be enough. That you may very well see your dreams crumble around you, or that you may even kill them yourself. But then comes the final chorus. "Fly, Perfect Wings". Despite all the hardship, despite seeing everything crumble around you... You are ready and willing to pick up the pieces and move forward. The song is a beautiful depiction of both Yi Sang's story, and experiencing and escaping deepest depression. I love that song, and I love Yi Sang's story. Canto V is equally incredible, but I believe I prefer Canto IV, at least narratively.

Spoiler ahead for the end of Canto 4: Demian's monologue is quite confusing, but after figuring out that with "me" he doesn't refer to himself, but a hypothetical person, he does raise an interesting question. We are using all the powers of our Mirror World IDs for our own benefit and just assume that it's completely trivial, because they are just other version of ourselves. But the IDs are still their own individuals, we are just stealing their powers without excuse. In that regard our Mirror Tech is just as cruel as the other singularities (The starts in the sky Demian was talking about, atleast i interpret it this way) like the K Corp one. They take a creature with a beneficial ability and maximize it's usage for exploitation.

Looking at the thumbnail alone, I can already say: Great job, Foreman~

Bringing less than the maximum possible Sinners to a focused encounter will gradually increases the amount of attack slots of those brought accordingly. So not filling all spots isn't necessarily a demerit and is sometimes even recommended.

Fun (ominous) fact: Dante's clock head is based off of the Doomsday Clock, a metaphorical representation of how close humanity is to destroying itself, the closer to midnight the closer to doomsday, Dante just ticked 1 step closer to midnight

Canto 4 is such a slog to get through, but god it’s so worth it for the ending, the ending really is just great

If you dont mind me saying Spoilers of the book the Book wings is in comparisson far more bleak : a wife playing in a way sang yi's part poisoning him with supplements making him even more lethargic then he already was while selling her body to feed them and a final stand off on a building wishing to fly one last time trying and failing. meeting the pavement... at their core the message is the same but it really reflects how the author saw his own country in apathy, describing how he and many that will follow falling through the cracks made inevitably but that shouldnt stop you from trying. Given how Modern S.Korea has become everything he has feared it surely had a huge impact on the people reading his stories today.

i think when heathcliff says he remembers feeding the yellow calf milk he's neither still playing his character nor implying he knew dongrang before, but rather that since he did synchronize with the memories of a league of nine member he has the memories of when said member of the league fed the calf in the past. as of this canto, i find it very akward until the encounter with dongbaek (specifically the fights), first it has some interesting plot points but a lot of them are handled in strange ways (for fuck's sake shrenne you're working at a wing you should know computer safety 101), however i loved how the dungeon treated yi sang as well as dongrang and dongbaek, they're really tragic characters but i think the comments have said enough about them already

I think its now a good time to mention that all mirror worlds, if I remember correctly, would also include *our* world

Here's a bit of fandom trivia: the (non-korean) global playerbase has been scrambling for a "Effloresced E.G.O::Farmwatch" identity since the final fight with Dongrang. The idea of "Farmwatch" is too controversial and taboo to it's native audience to ever be a playable thing, but on global it's a meme for an unobtainable shiny that'll forever be in-sight, and out of reach.

Just something to know about focused encounters: If you go in with less sinners than the maximum number you can get extra skill slots until you have the amount you would if you did bring in all your sinners. This does not apply to railway but as of now it works in every other focused encounter.

A few interesting tid bits of info for a few people that may have missed or haven’t had time to thoroughly think it over. The mirror based on fausts n corp id is highly likely how Kromer got a bit of her information or something extremely similar to it which people can use as they will. The one in yi sangs mirror for most of this canto was a fairly direct interpretation of his “ideal” self. Which depending on what kind of person you are could be devastating to learn that you weren’t the best “you” or uplifting to know that it is something that’s there that you could actively try to be/imitate, but yea kinda the premise for the entire canto here Lastly this isn’t for foreman but for everyone else that’s already went through limbus but damn when I was going through canto 5 and thinking of mister ocean head it should have been obvious because of how Damien interacted with Sinclair and radion with her foil the identity of him should have been obvious and now I’m feeling dumb

The main benefit of Mirror Dungeon Hard mode is that after a single run, you can exhaust every bonus at once for a cumulative and sizeable increase to the gains from the expedition.

I remember first beating this Canto. The song hit really close to home, I was already holding tears for the story, and the cutscene js made all of this 100x worse. I was sobbing and weeping for HOURS

Luckily for the 5/7 fight, when you go into most Focused Encounters while under the team cap, you gain a slot every turn just like in normal fights, up to the participant limit. Idk why but I was actually unsure if they'd do it here for some reason, glad they did.

Some crazy ids definitely make starting Limbus now easier, but standard roster back then was already strong as well. It was way more different for Ruina though. I feel like it's so much easier now than what it was in raw early access (updated once or twice a week). Also i would recommend to read about Yi Sangs league. There is at least one reddit post with all info about it. Just some extra thing to reinforce this chapters experience.

Really glad you enjoyed the canto! I do consider this one my favorite so far. I cried a lot when I played it and I still tend to end up in tears when I see the scenes at the end of the fight again. Perhaps I resonate with it more than I would care to admit. I always had an interest in Yi Sang but this chapter was what helped elevate him as a character in my eyes (as Cantos tend to do). As a player who is up to date with what's out so far Yi Sang is very much my favorite character, so I may also look back at this canto with bias lol What really solidified him as my favorite is his post-canto behavior though, man I love him. Anyways, looking forward to the rest of the story you still have left to do and the tier list! Here's to hoping Yi Sang's gone up at least one rank since last time :' D

I remember hating this fight because the game would crash on me every time I reached the 3rd phase of Dongrang's battle. Had to wait a few updates until it got resolved.

Canto 5 is my favorite canto so far. The atmosphere, fights, music, and pacing were all great. I can't wait to see you play through it.

A head up for md 3 hard, floor 4 and 5 can be quite bull shit base on the buff that you pick for the enemy and the fusion ego gift you have so dont feel ashame of spamming ego

Good job on Farmwatch, Manager Esquire! Farmwatch was a little bit harder back when Canto 4 released, but the fight is more of a storytelling spectacle than a hard bossfight in my experience. Canto 4 as a whole is very much a mixed bag, as you said, it is Strange and Ideal, it has some of the worst pacing in the whole game, but also some of the best storytelling. Truly "Yi Sang" But Canto 5, oh man Canto 5, it is by far my favourite Canto, and its ending is easily one of my favourite PM moments ever, it's THAT good, so I'm very much looking forward to you experiencing true PEAK PM writing. The thing that bugs me the most about this Canto is that the metaphor of a chicken not being able to fly is wrong. CHICKENS CAN FLY. Not for very long, but they can still fly! So while Yi Sang and Sang Yi were talking about chickens not being able to fly I was internally screaming "CHICKENS CAN FLY!!! I THOUGHT YOU GUYS WERE RESEARCHERS!!!"

maybe you already know this, but just in case since you seem to be opening the ego selection screen to check whats available: you can see what ego you have resouces for based on the coloured lights around the sinner portrait. e.g. at 58:11 you can see yi sangs crows eye view, outis to pathos mathos, ryoshus blind obsession, faust representation emitter, ishmael snagharpoon and blind obsession are available

Don’t forget to pick up the lunacy for completing the canto! Also make sure all your sinners are as high a level as possible for mirror dungeon hard. With the drop of canto 5 the level cap is now 45 but 35-40 should suffice

And now you see why we feel so bad for chapters 1 to 3. Yi Sang gets this fantastic finale, Sinclair doesn't get to deliver a final blow on their enemy but at least he grew from his encounter with Kromer, Rodya kinda just walked in and walked out unaffected by the canto, and Greg just suffered. This is at least the main reason I kinda feel bad for the previous sinners in their chapter.

Canto 4 has some poor story pacing because of the insane number of fights you get between story segments, but the story itself is Peak
