My friend Declan and I took a trip from Pensacola International Airport (KPNS, CLASS C) down the beaches of northwest Florida to St. George Island airport on a beautiful spring day. Starting in Pensacola, we passed Gulf Island National Park, Navarre, Fort Walton, Destin, and Panama City Beaches, all the way down to Apalachicola, Port St. Joe, and on St. George Island airport. This area is some of the most complicated airspace in the country, with multiple overlapping class C airspaces, civilian, multiple USN and USAF military bases, and most of the area inside Military Operations Areas (MOA's).
St. George Island airport is a very remote private community airport with the Bay on one end of the runway and the Gulf of Mexico only a stones throw from the south end of the runway. It was visually stunning to fly in and take off over the water in this uniquely picturesque location! The charts did not clearly mention that this airport was privately owned, and was locked with an access controlled gate.
This trip is more inclusive of the details of flying than most of our other videos, and leaves in much of the checklist, airport operations, ground and tower comms, and the taxi way out of Pensacola International Airport (KPNS). It was a beautiful day to fly, and it was Declan's first ride down the beach. The scenery was amazing, and more than the cameras could really capture.
I hope you enjoy. Please leave your some comments!
