No surprise. In iraq, the m4 struggles to hit guys hiding behind any type of cover. Brick and cinder block walls, etc. Meanwhile the ak can spray and pray and punch through things and still hit you

pretty simple - throw out the .308 take 2 rifles exactly the same except for the cartridge the 5.56 will make shots out to 500 yards repeatedly. the 7.62 will not. the 7.62 will travel straight ( er ) through walls, doors and vegetation without diversion. the 5.56 will not. the 7.62 is a better round for close engagement in urban or wooded environments the 5.56 is a better round for consistent intermediate range accuracy the give and take is - you can carry more 5.56 than 7.62

My man. I’ve taken down caribou at 615 yards with ar47 and FMJ. Shooting up a mountain with 15-20 mph crosswind. Yes, I had to walk in rounds but at that range, rounds are subsonic and caribou were oblivious to what was coming closer to hitting them.

Good comparison, a bit more fair than the first test. While you seemed disappointed in the 5.56, I wouldn't be really. The temporary wound channel is impressive, and you don't have much overpenetration in a realistic shot, that is actually energy efficient. Think of the .308, with the overpenetration you are wasting a huge percentage of energy, while every last bit of that energy is being efficiently dumped by the 5.56. The real test is range, .308 is going to impressive out past 500 yards, both 5.56 and 7.62x39 not so much. Here is something to consider about the .223 / 5.56, It's actually a popular rifle used by the Inuit people in Alaska, hunting moose and caribou, yes you heard that correctly. They just simply aim well and typically take headshots. While you aren't going to shoot through the shoulder bone on a moose with fmj .223, it is a efficient round when used correctly. Flat shooting, decent range, and light, popular, widely available and often cheap. If you really got to shoot out a engine block or knock down a concrete wall though, 7.62 is hard to beat, x39 or x51, but like everything there is a trade off, no perfect round.
@ObamaoZedong
@ObamaoZedong Год назад
The inuit also take moose with .22lr but that doesn't mean I'd want to use it for defense. One does not make well placed head shots in a life or death sitiation.

@@-Zevin- Not according to our dissapointed troops. It's one thing for a military to tactically waste the enemy's medical resources since a wounded enemy take more assets off the front lines than dead one. But here in the civillian world, I'll take the proven track record of the most widely preferred round in the world. Plus, I hike in bear country. Alaskan guides won't touch a 5.56 for grizzly defense, but don't hesitate to bring a 7.62. That's all I need to know.
@-Zevin-
@-Zevin- Год назад
@@ObamaoZedong If you think 5.56 is insufficient for human beings you have no idea what you are talking about. Especially when you are talking about defensive at close range where the hydrostatic shock caused by the high velocity is in effect. 5.56 with hydrostatic shock does more damage than .45 ACP in temporary wound cavity and yaw. Do you think .45 ACP is insufficient for self defense? The only place .223 / 5.56 struggles is at long range 500+ yards as the velocity lowers enough that the rounds tend to ice pick and not tumble or cause hydrostatic shock. With the extreme velocity of 5.56 it actually does similar soft tissue damage as 7.62 NATO or 7.62x39, only lacking in penetration compared to both because of the lower grain bullet. This lesser penetration is a non issue on humans, but can have more of a effect on very large bone on large game. Even so there is videos right here on RU-vid of people hunting Wildebeest at 300+ yards with 1 shot kills with .223.

@@-Zevin- 1st off I agree with you. The issues the military was having in the middle east with 556 was kinda specific to the area/combatants. A lot of engagements went beyond 300yds and the enemy had a body fat percentage of 4% while loaded up on drugs. These 2 factors made the 556 less effective. The 55gr round unless it hit an artery was just punching little holds vs tumbling having little to no impact on drugged up skinny combatants

How did the recoils feel ? Do you feel you could have shot more bullets while still maintaining accuracy with one gun over the other ? Although I think the gun with the silencer would have less recoil and less power pushing the bullet which is gives it an advantage and an disadvantage . By going back in video watching you shoot each gun there doesn't appear to be any difference in recoil between the 7.62 and 5.56 but you could just handle recoil better than others . Their is a big recoil difference in you shooting the 308 though .
@rphash49
@rphash49 Год назад
As far as recoil goes 308 > x39 > 556 if you are running in similar platforms, OP was not ie. Bolt action will always have more recoil than a semi auto based on design. The offset if you will is bolt actions are more accurate and in some cases by a lot. But... Recoil doesn't always= staying on target. Example: a suppressed short barrel Galil Ace in 556 is gassy as fuck(KNS adj piston can fix the issue). A Tavor 7 unsuppressed has an excellent recoil control. Without the KNS adj piston in the ACE I can shoot the Tavor7 faster and stay on target by a very small margin. Side note: most all suppressors increases velocity, not decrease.

@toolsoffreedom407
@toolsoffreedom407 3 года назад
That is the purpose, having different barrel lengths. These are your "typical lengths" assuming someone doesn't have a battle rifle with 308. Most people have a bolt action, and if not most, a really good amount. These barrel lengths showcase what the round can do at the barrel length they're best suited for. A suppressor in my opinion has no effect on terminal ballistic energy. I still have to try different 5.56 variants, but in this case it was super weak, nothing compared to green tip. It might also be the manufacturer as PMC x tac is only plinking ammo.

The 5,56 is pathetic even the green tip. The 7,62x39 with the PS43 bullet is much better in penetration. In my unit when i was serving in polish army we got out beloved akms rifles replaced by beryl 5.56 pipsquekes and after playing with our new "toys" for the first time on the range after sighting in we were shock to see how pathetic it was at penetration stuff. Tumbled and fragmented on everything while our old akms would just punch it in one piece. And no the 5.56 is not better "in the meat". Some older guys who were in iraq had to sometimes shoot aggresive dogs on patrol, there were an awfull lot o them in iraq and they noted that beryl was absolut shit for it. They used a captured iraqi akm because it was more humane, and no 7.62x51 or 54r was availible besides machine guns. The 5.56 rounds Tumbled and made some damage, much more than a pistol but the 7.62x39 ripped chunks of flesh out the exit. Long story short - soldiers lost the reapect of their Beryl service rifle. And they used issued military ammo from Mesko not some weak civi junk like pmc.

What a good story, thank you for sharing! I agree and disagree. There's pros and cons to each round. The 5.56 has a greater effective range. I'm in the United States Marine Corps, and it's the only round we use for our service rifles either in the m16a4 or m4. The accuracy and effective range on the 5.56 is much greater than what a 7.62x39 will ever be. And yes it is considerably weaker for penetrating, but it makes up for it with its lower recoil in my opinion. We train with different drills, and all of are either two or three shots rapid shots on different parts of "the body". Being able to put rapid shots at 100 yards is very effective. 2 shots on a bad guy would be very effective. Also makes for a lighter combat load. There's pros and cons. I personally enjoy shooting an AK way more. Both rounds definitely have their flaws, that's why the Military is moving towards the 6.8 very soon.
