Get ready for a fun, challenging foot injury workout routine you can safely do while recovering from a lower leg injury.
I know what you are thinking: “But Caroline… how am I supposed to exercise without my feet?!” “What do I do if I can’t run? Or jump?”
Don’t worry! I’ve got a lot of options for you. All you need is to be open to think outside the box. Are you ready to explore new types of movement? Look at this injury as an opportunity for fun exercise adventures! Get ready to try new things and see what your body is capable of.
Done safely, exercise is an important way to accelerate healing. The healing process requires good blood circulation and a satisfactory flow of nutrient replenishing blood to the injury area. However, your exercise choices need to be SAFE, SMART, and not put ANY stress on your injury… which means you are going to have to get creative.
In this strength session I want to teach you essential bodyweight strength exercises that will help you build a foundation of fitness and stay strong no matter where you are in the recovery process. Reminder: just because these bodyweight exercises don’t involve weights or impact, doesn’t mean they are easy! Mastering the right form takes focus and skill. Pay close attention to how you move through each exercise and go for quality over quantity. Do less reps or sets if needed to focus on your form. All of these exercises can be done anywhere, anytime for more energy, strength, and fitness. You can choose to move through the entire workout at once or mix and match these moves into your weekly fitness schedule to maintain muscle mass. All you’ll need to complete these exercises is your body and a mat! Ready to get sweaty? Grab your water bottle and let’s go.
You must be cleared by your doctor or physical therapist before starting this or any exercise routine. The following is not to replace the care of a doctor or medical professional. ALWAYS check with your doctor first and remember: when you are healing from an injury, HEALING needs to be your #1 priority. Take however much time you need to heal properly so you can come back to full health. Always listen to your body and if anything puts your injury healing in jeopardy or hurts STOP. We don’t have time for you to get another injury! Honor what you need to do for healing and move mindfully. Pace yourself. Your goal should be to come back stronger and better. I suggest previewing this workout first. You may need to eliminate specific moves until later in the recovery process. That is OK. This is NOT a race to the finish. This is about YOU staying in active and maintaining health while you heal. Don't rush. Listen to your body, have fun, and always remember "smiling is very advanced" ;)

I’m a runner and I broke my foot before a half marathon. I have been so bummed simply lifting weights and watching my runner friends race. I use running mainly as a mental therapy, so not doing has taken a toll on my health. You have been the first thing in two months that has put a smile on my face and kept me motivated and positive. Thank you so so so much! This is perfect and you really keep the positivity flowing. Keep it up !!!!

You saved my life! I’m only 18 years old . I’m just a kid , yet I suffer with chronic health issues (mentally and physically)and have dealt with chronic pain for a long time! I also have bladder (overactive bladder) and bowel (IBS) issues !I was born with developmental disabilities , such as autism , dyslexia, and ADHD and while these developmental disabilities do not cause me suffering in itself, I do have challenges related to them , which are only amplified with my chronic health issues ; I am thankful for my developmental disabilities though , because I do have superior advantages as well compared to neurotypicals,so I’m also thankful to be disabled/neurodivergent! :)

a few weeks ago, i broke my ankle and i was so depressed that i couldnt do anymore running, yoga and horse riding... until i found your videos. Your attitude opened a new state of mind for me. Seeing the injury as from a positiv ankle was new. now, i can listen to my body's signals and i learned to be patient with myself. thank you so much and keep on rockin

I sprained my ankle for the second time now, I was in such a bad mentality because I love hockey and I was chosen for the provincial team to compete at nationals this year and I had to forfeit because of my injury. I felt as if I will never heal properly and I had no hope since this is the second time I tore my ligament(in 2018 and again in 2019) Its beenabout 2 weeks since my injury and I have been feeling sluggish and unhealthy due to not being able to exercise and I was going through RU-vid seeking motivation on what I can do to stay postive during this time. It is safe to say, Caroline, that your positivity and kindness throughout this video helped me instantly to keep on going. I was smiling throughout this workout and I truly felt happy doing it. You have this encouraging and uplifting aura that I can only aspire to have. You truly are phenomenal and I can't thank you enough. I wish the best to you and may you only have success and happiness in your life. ❤️

I fractured my big toe and haven't been able to do my usual exercise routine. I rely on it to help me feel better physically and mentally, so not being able to move the first week was really taking its toll on me. I found your workouts about a week and a half in to my injury and I am so grateful! It has helped me to feel more like myself and increase my positivity! Thank you for making these videos catered toward injuries. I never knew anything like this existed until my own injury and its given me a greater appreciation for exercise that I took for granted and compassion for those who can't, but these videos make a way! Props to you!!

I just really feel the need to tell you this- I am so very grateful for you and what you do. My ankle got better a bit ago, but because you, I never forget to smile when I'm working out. Even if I can't keep it, I have the feeling of positivity you empowered me with whilst I was using this video. So thank you, you are amazing at what you do. I will never again not be doing the most advanced move, smiling. I will always be assuring myself, even if I didn't go as hard as I could have, I still did more than I could have. I did something, and little progress is better than nothing. What is most important is how you feel, your all over health, and your own happiness overall. So thank you, thank you very much. This is always something I do without intention, and I am in the habit of it. So I believe it will keep happening as long as I live. A lesson for working out and otherwise. I ran 10 miles, and I stressed my left foot too much and now it hurts to do anything as little as lay down. This was more comfortable that most of the workouts I tried doing. Thank you!

I have had a stress fracture for 10 months that just wouldn't heal. I was able to do my normal workouts, by leaving my left foot on the floor. 2 weeks ago, I had surgery as the bone was finally determined to be a non-union and now I can't put any weight on it. I found your video's last week and tried a few out. This week, I was able to do 5 different ones and keep up at least some of my fitness, just not the walking yet. But it sure feels good to be doing something!! Thank you!!

Thank you Caroline for recording and sharing these videos. I broke my heel 10 months ago and due to Covid have had only very minimal medical support. It has been a huge struggle both physically, mentally and financially. I only discovered your videos a few days ago (a recommendation on a heel fracture Facebook support group) and how I wish I had discovered them 10 months ago. Not only are the exercises really good but you are very motivational and positive in regard to healing the injury. It helps that you have long term personal experience too. I will be doing them everyday now. Thank you 🙏

I have been dealing with a neuroma in both feet, just got 1st set of steroid injections. Helped a little. Have not been able to do a good workout for over 2 months and been driving me nuts! Thank you for this workout, I really needed it and so did my mind! Please make more foot injury workouts.

I fractured my ankle just a few days ago, right when I was getting into my training for a 10k in 3 months time. I tried this today for the first time, and I'm going to be doing this everyday for the next few weeks until I can do more work with the foot. Thanks so much for this. Thank-you!! I was getting really depressed with a second foot injury right after healing from a broken toe on my other foot! Many people who don't enjoy exercise just don't understand! I am 56 and this summer I had so much fun doing my own mini grandma triathalons. I would bike about 17 miles, hike the dog for 5 miles and kayak for 5 miles. Weird maybe, but I loved it! I really appreciate your videos. They are different than what I usually do and are kind of tough...but I need to sweat so I will just keep trying. Exercise is mandatory if I am going to get any sleep also :) Smiling during a workout IS advanced!! Thanks so much!

Thank you soooo much dear Caroline! I am a regular runner and just broke my left foot one week ago, so this process has been very hard on me. This was my first practice after the injury and it just gave me so much strength to face the next weeks. As you said, everyday is a gift and today you were my gift.

Caroline, thank you so much for creating workouts for hurt feet. A combination of this video and the "Hurt foot total body stretch" video gave me a ton of relief. I was bummed when I fractured my foot and had to stop my usual exercise routine. Your workouts kept me going.

4 foot surgeries. Two per foot. 16 weeks in bed. First week out. Up ten lbs. and won’t be able to run for a year. Summation. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I needed this. Mentally. Physically. Today was my first exercise day. I can’t thank you enough.

Can't thank you enough, I've been in a workout routine for the past 2 years (nonnon stop) and that has helped me so much. Now, due to an ankle sprain, i was so sad for having to stop it for a while, specially because its the 3rd injury in my right ankle already, and was afraid of not recovering right. I didn't try this workout yet but it gave me hopes of not stopping my fitness journey, so grateful, i really needed to find this. You're awesome!

This video was so great! I broke my foot last summer rollerblading. It's been 2 surgeries and a year and I'm going absolutely crazy unable to run or even walk all that far. This was intense and crazy hard and so worth it! Everything I wanted from a hurt foot work out. And thank you for your positive words and outlook. Smiling it definitely the hardest but best part
